Distracted with WFH setup. Seeking ideas to be more productive.
I work in remote mode full time, occasionally visit the office, once in 3 months. My office is located in a different city from where I live in.
The work I do is challenging and interesting, but I manage to complete my tasks by working for max 4-5 hours a day. Remaining time of the day, I get distracted, not with household duties but by doing research on random stuff. I want start a company, but I have no idea where to start. I consume a lot of information, yet most of the time I spend goes unproductive. By nature, I am very unorganized.
Most of my friends are busy in their own world and I don’t want to disturb them seeking advice.
Any idea how I can get over this habit to make productive use of my time, while WFH?
I can understand the feeling. The startup route, I’d suggest to read some PG essays to start with. Other than that If you’re are in a city which has meetups, try those. Else just do something you don’t do already. like karaoke/drawing/cycling etc
Also don’t feel that you need to be productive always.
About friends, however they might be busy I’m sure they would love to catch up anyways, so ping them!
Appreciate your suggestions. Would you mind providing me some info about how to get into genuine meetups? Is there any app that I can make use to connect with likeminded people? I have a flurry of ideas running in my mind. My research is vast, that includes education, philosophy, travel, technology, sports, entertainment, etc. My field of interest is just endless. But all this has resulted me in becoming an information junkie. I feel like lost & unable to focus.
Contrary to that, I’ve full clarity at work. I’m very productive. That’s actually a problem for me. I finish my work much earlier everybody else in my team and get a lot of free time.
Think I need to engage some trusted friend to bring me on track. But most of my best friends cannot contribute to my ideas as they are busy with their own world and I understand them.
For meetups, I have used “meetup” app. It shows me events around my location.
Impressed with your knowledge and interests. Maybe try writing about it?
I believe now I’m getting too much into advice without knowing you personally much so I’ll stop to that :)
Just one last thing though, if you think you’re good and efficient at the current set of problems at work, that might be a hint also to you are ready for next set of challenges. like try switching a job at another tech stack/domain or senior role or something. Again your situation might vary
I'm sort of in the same boat! My current work place isn't challenging me enough, but I want to continue working remotely
I just spend all my time in disorganised research
Open a small shop in your home town
Well the first step is to organise the research. That might lead to something.
