I am a middle class guy working as a senior engineer in one of the product companies. I belong from the north-east, and I am the only child in my family. 

Since covid, I was working in a wfh setup. Recently, my company has ended work from home for everyone, and I am supposed to move to Bangalore very soon or quit. 

I am an active user on all social media groups on Reddit, Fb, etc. For the past couple of months after seeing so much of negative news about Bangalore, Especially the high population, skyrocketing rents, the auto unions, corruption, cut-throat competition, discriminative news, traffic issues, etc. It makes me nervous to be honest. My wfh here was pretty chill, and I had a very limited social circle here, but was satisfied since I could spend most time with my mom and dad. 

Im very afraid now about what should I do next, shall I quit the job and search for wfh, or shall I make my move. I don’t have any acquaintances there, no friends, no idea about what I’ll be doing next, how to start house hunting, or job hunting. At this point I am miserable and overwhelmed to think about all of this. 

Anyone who has gone through all of these, If you can share your 2cents, experiences or thoughts, about how you dealt this phase. It will be really helpful for me at this point in my journey. Thanks in advance! 🙏🏻

So last week, I got coffee from Starbucks early morning and was sipping it while travelling to the client office.

As soon as I got to the reception, I was asked to go into a conference room where the CEO and the tech lead was there with the entire tech team. CEO straight up says, "We have a problem, a BIG one". Someone from our team had introduced a bug into the codebase for an internal API that had no fallbacks, their main service was down because of us. They had pushed a hot-fix which reverted to an older version based on a heuristic but it lacked a lot of the ML intelligence we had built for them. 

My PPT suddenly seemed worthless. I was almost on the verge of breakdown because I was pulling very long hours. Bhai! I didn't meet my girlfriend on one of the dates and she was super mad at me.

I coordinated with our developers, reviewed code personally after 6 years of no coding, and called colleagues at Deloitte for support. We re-deployed project on K8s and? It worked obv. CEO shakes my hand and I head back home.

Leaving the office, I felt that what am I even doing with my life. I feel that I should get back to coding now. So, I have decided to devote weekends to brush up my tech skills. Girlfriend is supportive toh dekhte hain kya hota hai.

Location: BLR, IN 

I got a call from google for L7 role (BLR) which is staff role in India afaik. HR mentioned Payrange: 2-3Cr

I get mixed reviews from people so asking again for BLR folks: 

1. Amount of focus on coding round vs system design?
2. Amount of leet code preparation?
3. In the interview Is the focus more on leadership or knowing deeper tech nuances? 
4. What’s the payrange I can get?
5. Is google L7 equivalent of amazon L6? Levels.fyi has split so not exactly sure. 

I am looking for responses from people who have actually gone through similar experiences rather than “I heard from my sources”.

I work at a fintech company..
We have a engineering team of 35 dev which includes around 10 senior devs and the remaining are interns and junior devs..

we got called for a productivity improvement meeting by one of the senior developer and he just denied chatgpt for us..

Okay I’am biased here.. 
I agree we need to embrace new technologies..
But his point was to use chatgpt promts to write all of our code and it makes no sense..

He demoed chatgpt promts and was like “ see you don’t need to write a single line of code “

When we told we should not solely depend on tools such as copilot or chatgpt as it will not help  us as well as the interns and the junior devs..

You code to learn .. you don’t learn to code ..
Just by copy pasting code snippets for chatgpt will take them nowhere and I’m pretty sure it will confuse them even more ..

What do you guys feel ?

I guess the title clears it. I just sat for 4 hours in front of the screen doing.....nothing. 
How to work ?

I know excercise, write journal etc. all that self help stuff...i do it....still unable to work.
