[Hot Take] AI will make SWEs redundant, PMs and Marketers will become the most important job
It’s clear that companies won’t need engineers 10 years from now. They’ll just need people who know what to make. Who to sell to. How to sell to. At what price. This will be the great commoditization of Software development Take it or leave it.
This is an L take for someone who works at Google
It is supremely obvious that SWEs are about to enter the golden era of Software Engineering. We are easily foreseeing 2x-2.5x improvement in developer productivity rate. You should go touch some grass or else you will end up becoming PM guru who shills substandard-courses to poor kids.

Did you check properly percentage of PM and TPM getting fired more than engineers. Since engineers numbers are more you feel that. The moment you convert into percentage you gonna see the reality

AI cannot compensate for judgement. 90% is still copied from github, stackoverflow but the 10% that a engineer puts brings the finesse. Domain design, system design, scaling is a responsibility and not just a thing to learn. Every Steve needs his Wozniak
AI trying to debug a real life legacy code, giving up, and launching nukes instead! 💥 /s
Happened with Ultron. Went on internet for 5 mins and decided to end it all... 😅

What a cope.
Do you really work at Google?
Ai had already come for marketing and PM also
Yeah. AI is in all fields. Even in consulting too. Surprised to see the subject of the post.

The developers in comments are getting worked up. But reality is that it won't take long for a good Product Manager (Engineering+MBA) to learn the 'domain' knowledge of tech side. Remember he already has good business/product knowledge with execution experience of launching the product.
As years go by all tech task to lauch an app can get automated.
Think about it.

Well, once MS Excel sheet learns to listen to people and speak to them, the accountants will no longer be needed

Only people have the patience or willingness to understand the why of questions. With age I have to come to believe most of us want delegate the whys and how’s unless we are paid for it.

Other way round, I believe. A lot of BS roles exist because many great engineers can't handle dealing with people, either other engineers or customers. The managing and smooth talking can be automated/generated as needed. Leaving technically skilled folks overlooking, approving, and integrating code generated by AI.

i agree with you @Linkedinpoweruser and i see a lot of copium in the comments 👀😂😂😂
Why do you think your take matters if you don't even have a year of software development experience?
I can see one thing in the comment section that is highly opinionated Software engineers living in a bubble 🫠
Tell me you don't have code in production, without telling me you don't have code in production

If AI can make developers who need some level of critical thinking redundant, imagine what it would do to PMs

When OP said that being a PM will be the most important job, he revealed himself to be a special kind of chutiya.

A PM who has good communication skills, good business sense, enriched experience and knows how to use AI for getting the right codes will be very powerful.
Merely coding won't be in demand. AI can automate what is in the codebase, not the practicalities of life.
Obviously a PM looks to be having an upper hand over a software engineer

All the best🙌🙌but what I see is PMs and marketers are no exceptional.
Did we forget Snapchat laying off PMs to decrease decision making time and fasten up the whole process?
Jaldi jaldi se GV mein aag laga deta hoon, phir dev sync-up meeting bhi toh schedule karni hai
Bhai PM's are getting bashed when AI impact isn't there why would you need a guy for business to tech communication when business can have there needs presented to AI directly
AI will come in all space. Except the fields where there is a need of human-to-human touch. Like playing soccer, changing diapers of kids, psychological interactions.

Lol worst take ever. Ask AI to maintain legacy systems which are running the same since last 10 yrs with no changes and something keeps breaking every now and then
