Feeling down

Last year i moved to a product based company from a service based so naturally the first 6 to 7 months were hard on me in terms of not only learning the work culture but also understanding complex systems. Then when i started to get a grab on things i was shifted to a new team. Where it did not take me much time to get a hold of things as i had now understood the nature of my work. But during my annual performance review my manager comes up and tells me that you are being judged for the entire year and he absolutely hammered me in my review. To make matters worse he even told me of a PIP that i was going to be pit into. Now at this point i know that the work is not that difficult for me as i own a module which i have slogged on for the last 6 months. I feel cheated and sad as my performance is not bad rather it is good. Even he acknowledged that but still he is doing this. What should i do? I have been feeling absolutely gut punched and have lost my confidence i know myself that i had faced problems initially but that was due me trying to figure out how things work but since i was dumped into another team my visibility got 0. He does not even know who i work with or reviews my work, and yet he is adamant on putting me in a PIP. I want to resign and leave. For the last 3 months i have worked for min 10 hours and this is the reward i get for putting in all the effort.

Any suggestions would help

Were there goals discussed for the first 6 months by any chance? Was there a review of them by any chance? (You've mentioned below he didn't review your work and in that case its shitty)

If you're saying your performance in the second team was good- have an objective measure of how its good, or what did you achieve exactly.

I have a feeling this should go to the HR- if be didn't review anything before, or tell you that your performance isn't upto the mark- how would you know?

And if you objectively know you performed well, on what basis is he ignoring that. Were there other goals he wanted you to achieve but now is ignoring?

I think it's terrible- i hope this works in your favour and I hope you're able to defend yourself. You should demand accountability.

I was told that this judgemental was done for period between Feb 2022 to Jan 2023 but the performance review forms were out in November plus my manger had joined the organisation in September 2022. He told me that i get PR review comments which was fair enough as I directly went to my leads for review instead of getting them reviewed by my peers plus he said i needed to understand business side of things which i have been doing for the past 6-7 months. The only thing which i feel went against my favor was that i worked from home due to my mother’s health while he and other folks were going to office regularly so i never really met him or saw his face. I made mistakes i agree but I certainly don’t deserve a PIP as well. The other manager under whom i am currently working he said he is satisfied with my work. But my manager says that this is a mandate from HR team. I feel like they are deliberately trying to push me out of the job they cut variables slashed increments and now they are doing this. I just hate my job at this point and I don’t wanna work for them even for a minute now.

I understand your frustration. They're being shitty. I just want you to remember your 'wins' objectively. It will help you hold your ground and not make you think you made the wrong choice.

They're being terrible and not able to justify the shit they're throwing even if the other manager said you're working well. Discuss it with him, if there's nothing he can do to solve this chutiaap, its ok to leave. If they can do this right now, they'll continue being chutias later.

Ya dude sounds like the company/hr/manager problem and not u. Sadly such people or policy exist and there’s nothing in ur hands. Take some time off from all this if u can.
