Got laid off today after asking for appraisal for 2 months.

Hey everyone, I hope you can help me out with this one query i have, is it fine to tell the interviewer that i got laid off when they ask why i am looking for a job change in this marker? I have been WFH for 2 years, have 6L in liquidity for runway i guess, idk if it's safe or not but how is the job market currently. Recently gave interview in a tier 1 product based company, got rejected in 2nd round as well so what should be my plan now? How to tackle this feeling of being incompetent and anxiety? I hope you can me out with these questions 😭

“I got impacted by company restructuring and my role/team/org was made redundant”
Use this if you don’t want to actually say you got laid off. But honestly I don’t think many people care. I got laid off and I was honest about it in every interview, still managed to get another role. I had zero savings, didn’t even get the F&F from my previous company yet, life was tough for two months.

Also, you’re NOT incompetent. You can do this, it will take some efforts but you’ll come out of this stronger!

Tackling the feelings of incompetence and anxiety - You have enough runway. You'll manage for couple of months. It'd be alright. Just control your expenses. Also, remember that you are not your job. It ended, not your life.

Telling you were laid off should be fine. Be honest and don't lie that it was about insufficient pay.

Job market current status... Well, for which kind of role?

For the rejection - Send a thank you note (at least to HR) if they weren't rude and that you'd love to be considered for any relevant role. Then reflect on what may have gone wrong. Keep applying while you work on it.

Hope these help

Market is bad for high salaried ones or maybe juniors… If u can try sde2 somewhere, should work. Don’t assume anything before trying - that’s how u tackle. And tell them u were laid off but it’s not for performance reason

Hi, just got to know more layoffs will be happening by the end of the month. So it's definitely not for a performance reason. Thank you for your kind words.
