I wanted an advice from you as I am in a confused state. I have got an offer for a leading company with a significant pay raise. However, now at the end of my notice period my current employer is ready to give me a pay raise and match the offer. What should I do? 

I have been stagnant when it comes to growth in my current organization and whatever Upskilling I have seen is through my after office hours study. I am confused as to what should I do!? I have a 1.5 yrs experience.

This advice was given to me by someone who has worked for 20+ years in IT.

"The reward for work done is always more work."

So always manage you time properly here. If you keep working hard then you will be exploited by your manager. He will always take credit for your work. You will do the work but it will be presented by a dumb senior to the client.

So your strategy should be:
Always complete your work on the weekend. Then every day you need to reveal work done slowly. Monday to Friday. This way you will chill during the entire week. People will think you do work but in reality you are coasting and chilling.

Use this time to upskill and interview for other companies. Then get out of IT and go to a Product company.

If you are from WITCH or any IT company then this strategy will make you successful in life...

Hello folks, i have been thinking to pen down a post on this community for sometime now but seeing how GP is becoming a bad mix of quora & Twitter, i refrained myself from doing it but I do believe there are like minded folks in this community who can help me out there. 

I am a growth product manager in a bank within their digital banking team, have 6+ years of experience post MBA from SIBM Pune. I have worked with a traditional media company for first 3 years and with successful startups for the next 2, I am in my current role for the past 10 months now. My CTC is 35 lpa, (30 fixed, 5 variable )and 3 lac joining bonus. 

I was doing institutional sales for first 3 years, category management for next 2 and now heading growth for the digital banking app. 

I am feeling stuck in my professional journey right now, no specific reason but I think banking work culture is a bit boring for me. I am trying to figure out 'what Next' and have also taken up a course with growthx with the intend to learn something new, upskill myself and be relevant as times are progressing. 

I have always been fascinated with the idea of working with  company's like Google, Samsung, Stryker, Spotify where I can have flexibility, good pay but more than that a feel good factor of not having to prove myself everyday at work. 

I have given the last 6 years to work, I don't intend to be so involved going forward but very firm with the idea of corporate being my primary income 

I don't know if I am making any sense of the current situation but just wanted to share my mental state.

I am 24 years old. I graduated in 2021 and had total 13 backlogs during UG and it took me 5 years to complete my degree. I am unemployed since my graduation and have been wasting my time on learning random things or multiple technologies at a same time. 2 months ago I decided to go to Canada for masters and my family supported me, my friend suggested me MS Data Science because he is Data Scientist in Canada. So, I gave IELTS in March and scored 7 band. Recently I had a talk with an Agency named Canam. And they suggested me to get Experience Letter + offer letter + LOR from employer + last 6 months payslip also Backlog Certificate from college but I don't have any of these things. What should I do in this situation? How should I move forward? How can I get my life on track? I'm just confused and not sure what should I do.

Hey everyone, 

I am a fresher out of college and I have an offer from a good company, with good pay and WLB. I was wondering that after joining the company, should I upskill myself continuously alongside my job (includes DSA, s
System Design etc) or just focus on my job and have a good work life balance? 

There are two different contradictory versions of me right now: one says it's necessary to upskill, the other one says to enjoy live to the fullest.

Confused between the need for upskilling and WLB

I did not grow up in a lot of money. I ordered looking at the prices on the menu. This feeling has stayed with me and has fueled me to thrive, push harder, work long hours and get to my goals.

I'm 5 years into my career, and last year I had a feeling of "making it". I had enough to not look at the menu, or even the place I'd be going to. This feeling is really really satisfying and I took some time to sit with it, enjoy and bask in this glory (humbly).

But I also feel my drive to hustle and do better has gone down. For instance, I'm okay pushing work to tomorrow, I'm not as keen to pickup work.

I feel some of graveviners could relate to 'making enough' story. Have you also feel a lack of hustle to keep you going? What do you think is the reason?

For experienced folks, I'm really keen to know how to get past this slump.

I felt this once I sold my startup. Through my other investments I have enough to not work and make whatever I spend passively. Got my own house, private office and a decent car. Family pressuring to get married. I felt a void though as I was like for what should I work?  
  
 And then I saw one random youtube video of a guy, I think he was some famous personality but I don't know him. He said he works to be "useful" , not to earn money.  
  
 That changed my perspective a lot. I thought why does Mukesh Ambani work? He has to be useful to take millions of people ahead in life. He can retire tomorrow and not have to worry about money for his 7 generations.  
  
 I started thinking about ways I can contribute and that led me to forming 3 new companies. I now have a "purpose". Feels nice to get up and have some aim. And its good that its not money.

I'm thinking that I haven't utilised my full potential and left behind from folks around me . 
Right now I'm 27 and earning 22LPA as an SDE. 
I'm constantly worried how can I earn better or make some skills which can bring some money too as IT industry is not stable. 
So what could be best for me to do : 
My strong point is if I focus on one thing I can put more efforts into that work. 

The options that I could think: 

1. Work on my tech skills and get into High paying IT job .
2. Pick one Govt exam and get any govt job . I'm thinking of SEBI grade A exam .
3. Pick up any skills like video editing start freelancing.
4.Prepare for MBA that might help me in longer run in corporate . 


Guys can you suggest which one area should I select and why . As if I focus on more than one I won't be able to fullfill any.

Want to level up career and finances

I am a PM at an edtech startup. The company is not doing well and my boss is not a good leader. Although company has a runway of 2 years. For the past 3 months I have been doing program management. No product management related work at all. No one appreciates you here. It's mentally challenging to work here. No road map for myself. No appraisal. I'm just going on the job for salary. For the past week, I have been thinking about quitting and taking a break. Then look for a job. I know the market is tough but I have runway for 4-5 months. I have a total of 3 years of Product experience. 

What should you guys suggest. I really need your help here.

Should I quit my job?!

Context: Hated my life in my previous job, work wise it was not bad.
Now, I don't hate my life as much, but work wise, it's really not good. 
Wayyy too operational, pressuring and salesy. I chose this, but I thought I would've been given some more time to mentally prepare myself, which didn't happen. 

Here's the kicker: the company is great, pay is also not bad. Not sure what I'll do if I'm not here and it was tough getting here. Recruiting hell leeches on me.

What can I do now? Any advice?

Job search is becoming hectic and hustle day by day .  

I want to expand my skill.  But I'd be expecting a stipend to meet my ends .  And I also hail from Lead Operation/Business analyst with 3years exp as well which could be of use. 

I don't just want to spend my time idle during this job hunt. This would help me upskill even better . I feel dumb at this point of time losing focus on everything after giving every interview.

I am thinking of leaving my current job and focus on myself, getting to know myself better etc. Currently I have enough money saved for my expenses for next 6-8 months. 
   Everyone I have asked about this say don't leave your job if you don't have another lined up, in this tech winter. I understand their view point. It aligns with what my parents think as well.

Is there anyone who has had done this in the past? Do you recommend this route? Are the consequences far too severe? Does anyone have a different opinion from one stated above?

Anyone ever left job without having another job lying around for their mental peace?

I'm in the same boat, on the verge of quitting, and will most probably take the leap next month.

I myself am a Software dev with more than ten years of exp. 

I mentored a bunch of folks and was active in lot pf communities. I have been noticing this trend for more than couple of years about how freshers and developers with experience of less than two three years are aggressively looking to switch companies to target 30L or 50L or whatever they are currently looking for. 
But I feel this is really bad for future in terms of career growth. I am not against looking for the best offer, but I feel people recently don’t have any priority for career growth. 

I am trying to understand their perspective. I am not jealous of any of these. Heck I prefer that they get more, so that they have to increase my pay to keep up with current trends. It’s just when people ask me for career guidance I don’t want to sound like a jerk to prioritise good work over good pay. 

Can you guys share your inputs/perspectives?
