Doesn’t make sense to activate private community for less than 50 folks. There won’t be much engagement or interactions in that community, right? you have WhatsApp group where you can add more than 250 Forbes right when you say that you are building a community on this platform, you would require significantly higher number of folks, and that seems logical. I was talking to a friend from work who is extremely active on Grapevine and they told me about this new feature on the app.

Apparently, if you are active on Grapevine everyday for 30 days and make 1000 grapes during that time then you get a bottom card asking you to opt in to a more exclusive community of professionals.

All of them meet on a monthly basis across the country, for a fireside chat. Everyone is flown from their base locations and the entire thing end to end is sponsored by Grapevine where you spend no money.

I am extremely certain because I have seen their Instagram stories.

But after I became an engineer a couple of years ago, I found myself not even getting enough time to play. Sad life...

Recently I realised, I've been playing Pinball all the time. The launcher which kicks you in the butt is known as the HR.

The two flippers in the bottom which keep on kicking you are manager and team lead. The side drums which gives shocks to you, are senior developers.

The switches that you toggle in the top, are the interns. And the worm hole which you enter, stay for a while and come back with more speed? That's called a long weekend. That is rare.

What does this mean for users at Grapevine? Is this data collection for the future. Anonymous messaging services but what is the ultimate end goal here.

Pardon me for being so naive here. I want to understand this new type of startup trend.
1. What’s the source of motivation for their employees to stick to their jobs?
2. How do apps like these think of monetizing? There is no ad, no paid feature per say.
3. Grapevine has probably built some kind of a platform. But how is this different from platforms like twitter, facebook or any other social media platform?
4. How much money do you think has been invested into building apps like this?
5. The DAU of this app based on my wild guess must be around 5K. I may be completely wrong here.
6. What according to you is the current valuation of grapevine?
7. Saumil Tripathi, the founder of grapevine is ex-google employee as per his LinkedIn profile. There is no mention of any other any other startup he owns. 
8. Grapevine has a team of 10 employees (as per Saumil’s post a few weeks back)
How do these guys make money?

I’m awestruck by the guys working in grapevine. Building an app of this quality with no monetization in sight!

As Grapevine enters its second year of being live, we wanted to finish the major overhaul we were building towards over the last few months. 
We've rolled out some big updates today - please do update your app.

Here's some top changes: 

1. Communities: A whole new look to communities on Grapevine, along with new features such as community sort and live member counts (screenshot attached) 
2. UI: A new font, new like (upvote) button and new community icons across the app
3. 100 Private Grapevines: We are proud/happy to share that there's now 100 private company grapevines where verified employees talk amongst each other. Join your company's Grapevine now. 
4. Grapes 2.0: A new definition for Grape rewards coming soon. Grapes 2.0 definition will include more value to users for creating 'chatty' posts and verifying yourselves 
5. Direct Messages: Multiple changes to improve the DM experience on Grapevine. You can also DM anyone from the Grapevine team (including MS) at any time without any Grape-constraints :)
6. Gestures: You can now swipe between screens on Grapevine, you can also swipe left when a post is open to go back to home screen (on iOS)

We wanted to share what we've been up to, so you know what to expect from the app in the next 1-2 months. 

1. Bugs: We are hard at work trying to solve all the bugs that have slowly crept into Grapevine 😶

2. DMs: A polite way for users to take a few conversations deeper, and share referrals/resumes if they want to. A key worry for us would be to not make this spammy (like a few users pointed out on a recent post), while still staying helpful. 

3. Experience: A smoother, more fluid app experience coming soon

4. Moderation: As posts and comments on Grapevine increase in number - there's also a small 0.1% of users that sometimes post abusive/offensive content. We're taking these issues more seriously. We read every 'report' that you share with us and take action appropriately

5. Grapevine on Web (I swear the first build is super exciting - I'm typing this post out on an early version of Grapevine Web 😉). This should allow people to browse Grapevine while in a boring meeting 😂

6. Salaries: We're building something exciting for better salary information 💰

7. Verification: You may have seen some users on Grapevine are now verified with a blue check. Currently only launched for employees of 3 companies, we'll launch this soon for more companies. This is how we'll raise the bar on trust within Grapevine. And no, we never plan to charge for blue ticks like some other platforms. It's just a darn image ☑️
