Great company vs Great culture

Hey all, I've recently recieved a couple of offers in the product management space and would be grateful if y'all could help me weigh in the pros and cons.

Context: I'm a Tier-1 engineering grad with <1 yoe.

  1. Product analyst at an insanely profitable, bootstrapped startup in the gaming space (industry of preference). The product and strategy are best in class and would be a great learning experience. I would be working in the team associated with their primary cash cow business unit. However, I've heard that the working hours are slightly long and wlb would take a hit. Also, my pay would be quite high and if I were to make a switch for an APM role, there would be very few options that would give a hike over this given my YOE.

  2. Associate Product Manager at Flobiz, a Fintech pivoting to be a neobank for SMEs. This was my first offer and on informing the HR that I would be taking up the other offer, the co-founder who had taken my final interview has requested me for a chat. The work culture seems great with a strong alumni network currently in the firm. They are ready to match the pay as well but ESOPs would probably not be liquidated any time soon. The brand name is inferior as well, compared to the other firm.

Go with a better brand name early in your career. In this market I would really optimize for role 1.

In general, gaming experience teaches you a lot more then any other industry. Prolly your number analysis just gets better, and it’ll help you throughout your career.

Go for a role with a better manager early on your career and whether you can learn from him or not as long as brands are decent

At this stage of ur career, go for the role which offers you the best combination of learnings and culture (support manager, mentor, empathatic leadership). This will set you up for an exponential growth trajectory for ur career. WLB would not be an issue for you if you are growing and enjoying learning under a supportive environment

At the onset of your career, go with the startup. Will help with a ton of exposure, and hands on experience with decent work life balance, and a def huge Paycheck.

Give it a few years and a couple of promotions, and then jump to a well established corpo.

Corpo life is where you go to retire aka die in peace.
