Can I leave a company after just 3 weeks of joining?

Hi all, As the title suggests, I want to know if there are consequences associated with quitting a company in just 3 weeks. I've joined an early stage startup as one of the first few hires in the product team. The pay and work is reasonably okay. WLB is also good. But one of the companies I was interviewing during my NP from called me back, conducted one more interview and now I have a better offer in hand. This new company is a fintech giant and objectively it makes no sense for me leave this offer. I'm stuck in a situation now where I'm getting super anxious to initiate this conversation with my current manager about leaving in just 3 weeks. Can someone help me with this? Please share your experiences if possible. Thanks a lot.

I have already communicated my situation to the fintech company, so BGV shouldn't be an issue I guess. They already know that I'll be leaving this org in such short span.

You should definitely leave the current company otherwise you will regret and judge every move you make in this company if it does not fall for you.

Doesn’t matter. Its normal. Just set up a 1:1 with your manager/mentor and say this honestly that you have a better offer and hence you wish to resign. Work on early release.

You can - not a big deal. Can’t be in a better position. Just do your due diligence on both the companies before making that decesion. The reasoning should be beyond compensation. Talk to the guys in the fintech - build a view on how your potential role can be rewarding and then compare it to the existing one.

What ethics? That company won't hesitate to fire them if they don't like their performance during probation. And if anything bad happened financially they won't hesitate to lay them off. Sure, this would come up in background checks - but as long as OP doesn't make a habit of leaving jobs super quickly, a one-time change like this is fine.

Yes you can leave in 3 weeks, couple weeks back I left Amazon after 2 weeks of joining. I didn't abscond and I had a clear conversation with my manager. I had a better offer and since I was not working on core stuff then they released me early.

It will be unfair to the startup if you leave in 3 weeks. But you know people no longer consider fair-unfair while making such decisions, and the same will be in case of the startup also, so do what your heart says and don’t feel guilty about anything. That is why companies have a probation period - where you can also leave without a long notice, if things don’t seem to be working out. All the best!

Yeah, this startup also has a 3 months probation where my NP is only 10 days. If I stay for more than that, it'll become 2 months making it more difficult to leave.

Don't stay when it's not giving you ESOPs. People will ask about it later during background checks but you can give any reason for it - you can say that your expectations weren't met or also just that you got an offer you couldn't refuse.

Nothing will happen Just chill. Talk to ur manager and if needed serve notice for 1-2 weeks. Any rational manager will understand and allow u to leave.

Leave. U can inform ur manager and leave. Or just send resignation and stop going to work. I work in a startup, more than half ppl who join leave within a few weeks of joining. It's very common. The company can also fire easily during probation. Go with a better package and safer option unless u r willing to take a huge bet on early stage startup.

If say I have 10-30 days of notice period, and if I do land a opportunity, how can I join the newer company on immediate basis without serving 3 motnhs. Buyout option is by having to pay the equivalent of 3 months, which goes beyond 200k. I am not willing to pay a company this much amount, given I only earned 300k from them. Should I first apply for notice period and then start interviewing or first land an opporutnity and then apply for notice period.

How to get an early release

Hey folks, I'm currently working for a US client and I am 100% billable to them if that information matters. According to the offer letter, the notice period is of 90 days but there's a buyback option where one can choose to pay and not serve the notice period. But from what I've heard, it's up to Capgemini to accept that buyback offer or not. So I've recently received an offer from a Singapore based startup and I told them that I can join in 30 days cuz if I hadn't, they wouldn't have even interviewed me in the first place. They're okay with buying back my 1 month and let me serve 30 days but I'm concerned what if Capgemini refuses to let me leave. What are my options here? Can I tell them that I'm leaving company due to some personal/health issues so I can get an early release. Do I need to involve a lawyer? Thoughts please. Thanks.

Help RESIGNING! so that I can come back! BC

So I left my job 2 months ago, the work culture and CTO was very very toxic, couldn’t handle it. So I get offer from a startup, nice start up, good work culture, good learning. I joined this startup 15 days back. Now I got an offer from a established mid size company whose pay is 35-40% higher, it’s a substantial amount so I signed their offer letter. Now I wanna leave my current startup but I dont wanna burn bridges while leaving, I have a doubt that if things dont go well with the new offer, cause I left without serving notice period from the toxic one, so I have this paranoia that something might go wrong with the onboarding for the new offer. I dont wanna leave such that my current startup doesn’t even consider me for rejoining. I want a solid excuse for resigning, such that even if after 1 week I want to return to A, they would consider me! I am saying this because I worked my ass off for 3 months to get a job and I got a good start up, nowadays it’s hard to find decent workplace, don’t wanna end up with nothing if something goes wrong with the new one! HELP!! I was thinking about some family emergency so can’t continue, Any other solid reasons???
