Are there any startups which are exploring domains having mixture of hardware and software?

Any hardware+ software startup’s?

Want to build a AI startup. Finding it impossible as 
1) Incumbents with distribution and data will easily build AI to their products
2) I don’t have PhD to build something truly innovative.
3) For consumer space, I don’t think it’s possible to build a new device or a OS etc (Incumbents again!)

I seriously wonder how startup founders start something! Do they just BS VCs about nice ideas and raise money? Any tips *from actual founders*  will be useful

Can’t think of good startup ideas!

Acquiring funding for a startup in india has become a hassle. I myself have been doing research on seed funding Vc's and angel investors. All they ask is pitch deck and LinkedIn profile. Which they don't even go through and just reply with an email saying we are not eligible for funding. On the other side US and other countries are getting funding at the ideation stage. I guess we can't even go for crowdfunding. Started building MVP, but halfway through the hurdle and unable to resume the development due to limited resources.

Tired of applying everywhere for funding.

For me its porn and gambling, very hard no on making a product or joining  an org  built on exploiting someone else

Domains I can never start up but join may be, would be religion, not into religion or spirituality much so can't start something from scratch with no domain knowledge or passion for the field. But given enough money will be happy to tag along in the journey

Just wanted to see if others thought about their hard no's or blindspots in general

What’s a startup industry  you will never build  in ?

I want to join a startup which is trying to solve an interesting and high impact problem statement. Some domains that would interest me:
1. SaaS product startup - solving a business process / problem using product eg. Collaboration and documentation tool
2. Any other domain apart from the crowded and boring ecommerce, edtech, foodtech sectors

Please suggest some startup names or cool domains which have opportunities for product based solutions.

Best startup to work for?

I have 2 job offers in hand and now am a bit confused. Need your advice on decision-making,

1st offer - Jaipur location - investing and trading company, offering me an Equity Research Analyst role with a profit-sharing in the new business division which they are developing.

2nd offer - Bangalore-based startup, recently raised $550k, has 18 months of runway, the current scale is low.. they are offering me mixed roles - 50% of the time will go into Social Media and Content, 30% in Business and 20% in Finance. ESOPs will be based on 6-8 months of performance.

Now I have 2 career paths in mind:

1) I want to do CFA and get into the core finance side... it might also lead me to the VC, PE, or IB side.

2) Startup - I have done startup in the past but failed. I want to do startup again but currently want to join a good startup where I can learn from experienced people.

I don't know how I should go about deciding b/w these 2 career paths.

If you were in my shoes, how would you make a decision?

I've noticed a trend of being asked to create elaborate strategies, extensive market research and other creative collaterals when it comes to the assessment rounds. They usually take inputs and then reject them in the final round. How should we protect our ideas while simultaneously participating in the interview process? I recently had a company ask for a strategy, reject me and then immediately announce a part of what I had given as an input. It was a shitty company and that was what was expected from it anyway but what about other big companies who do the same?

These would be the companies that has a great team attacking a real large problem with a vision or roadmap to also grow profitably as a business + great culture (and not necessarily chasing the valuation game and dressing up the company for investors or for eventually dumping it to common folks in IPO). Place where problem+product+people+profit have a much higher focus.

A quick note for today. Over the years, being a generalist, I've realized that it's very tough to know when we're bringing the right impact or not. 

In the case of Devs/Designers/Other specialists: The output is quicker and tells the story - an amazing UI/UX, or building well working products. 

For generalists, the feedback loop is much longer, it's very unclear what it will amount to (especially at startups), it's the reason why being a generalist is looked down upon, by some people. 

My realization has been this: over a 1-2 year period, when you look back at your work, it's the picking that determines how you feel about what you did. And also how others feel about how you did.

PICKING: Knowing what to work on. What to A/B test. What 0 to 1s to pursue. Should you prioritize product idea A or product idea B. Should you experiment with growth channel A or growth channel B. 
EXECUTION: Taking what you pick from 0 to 1. Knowing when to take it from 1-10. Working to make it happen. 

Eventually, most days are execution days. Whether you do good work depends on how well researched & well thought out the 'picking' was. 

So pick well, don't under-invest in that stage. Take out time every now and then to course correct. 

Know what to pick.
