Learning frontend and backend and then contributing to your project is different thing than just being said to contribute to a project you don't really know about. If this happens too often definitely quit, perhaps your manager or someone higher up might be finding ways to make you look bad and fire.

Ya doesn’t make sense to me. I am not gonna be able to do good job at this. I wasn’t even hired for this so I am completely blindsided. 
  
 How can upper management decide to ask for owning a product which is completely new to a guy and most of it is not in the stack of the guy’s expertise.

Suppose you’re a senior frontend/backend/devops person - basically one stack where your core skills are and those same skills will be tested in your next jump interview. Now if you’re a backend person with core skills in Java & Postgresql but due to some reasons you’re now asked to contribute in frontend code. Now you don’t want to sell yourself as fullstack in ur next move and time would be better spent learning Go… So just to make current job easier for yourself, do you spend time in learning frontend too? Or do you just somehow make it work without learning how and why?

And truthfully keeping yourself updated or upskilling in Java itself is a time consuming task.

Does it make sense to improve in non expertise area?

I was working in startup as reactjs developer but my role is not that great in company there are  both technical and non technical work, learning in previous is not that great. my question  is how i survive in new company without that much of experience? please help..

How to survive in startup/company?

So I am working on frontend for past 1 year, and work has become monotonous and I always wanted to be in backend, my team only works in frontend.

What should I do because I don’t want to be stuck in frontend forever, people around me are saying if I stay here for a year more, I will be stuck in frontend and it will be very hard for me to switch to backend.

Concerned about future roles

I see people keep telling they work as frontend, backend and fullstack. But I feel these are more of Web developer roles. Then comes Devops, Data Engineers, Data Scientist etc. Where do I fit ? My work is follows - 
1. Pick a story from sprint 
2. Story as small as writing unit tests or functional test for some logic
3. Solve a small problem related to the product such as - on a certain scenario NullPointerException occurs . So debug that and fix it.
4. Add a new feature to already existing functionality - e.g. collect more log information, extend product to cover more scenarios etc. 
What exactly will I say my work is? Backend - come on.

How do I explain my job role?

Hi guys, looking forward to some advice. I'm working as a Frontend developer for the past 2 yrs, tech stack is React, Javascript. I'm feeling that I'm bored with the work and not learning much now, just building components and calling new APIs. So I thought I should try backend development. The backend tech stack in my team is Java, Spring boot. I have knowledge of core Java. If I continue with the current role, I might get a promotion next yr but if I change I will not get. Also I eventually want to go to a MNC, where I see generally hiring is for backend roles where system design and DB is asked. Frontend specific hiring I mostly find in startup and mid sized companies, which I want to avoid. Another option is to switch to a different company like Microsoft, etc where they look for a general software engineer, for which I will need to study system design and DB. I'm fairly good at DSA, so not much of an issue here. What should I do?

Career growth trajectory

I have joined a startup as Backend Developer Intern. I get a stipend of 6K/ Month. They said they will offer full time position after internship, but the salary will be 10-12K. 

The only good thing is I am directly working on a live project. I am making REST APIs there. 

I have 5 months of time. What should I do? Should I learn react or should I learn backend concepts more deeply. I am also planning to apply for jobs side by side. Give your valuable thoughts on what should I do?

Backend Engineer

Hi folks, I am a frontend engineer. A bit of background about me:

- Exp: 4 years
- Tech: Over the years, I have only worked on frontend and some build tooling. For all these years I have only used JS/TS and ReactJS to the point where I currently feel handicapped in other languages.

My problem with frontend:

Most companies I have worked till now except for one, frontend is just converting the UI designs to UI code as fast as possible. Most companies do not offer much time to think about different cases for a component and write it well. Its mostly, if it works then push. Contrast to this, BE does get proper design + arch to ensure it scales well with future requirements.

Why I am thinking of backend/fullstack roles?

Seems better from future point of view. Progression is clear in BE, lot more roles it seems, interview process is mostly standard. In FE its sometimes FE releated, some DSA etc. So never sure what they going to ask. Also, progression in FE is bit unclear and how to make a case for it.

What are my options?
1) In my current company, BE is Java + Springboot, I have started doing some BE tasks here and there but seems Java + Springboot is a mammoth and I dont know if I will be good enough for a switch of roles with this experience. Switching inside the company feels a far fetched dream since there are far less number of FE devs and I have to mostly work on FE tasks one after the other because of scarcity.

2) Learn and do some side projects in Node.js since already familiar with JS and also had done some small APIs(freecodecamp) based on nodejs in the past.

3) Learn python, good for backend software dev + good for ml also going forward. Seems easier than Java to get started with django.

Primary confusion between  2 & 3 is, does side project make any difference when switching for roles or will actual job experience with option 1 be of more value even though it will take a long long time? 

Please suggest if someone has switched roles before.

Hi folks, I am a fronted developer with  5+ years of experience in TCS. I am doing well in my previous project but that is complete then I joined another project where I am struggling to do a smaller job as well. I am not sure what's going to happen to me every time I am the only person who always points out even if I make that mistake or not. Even though nothing motivated me, day by day my performance was going down I am feeling tired from this same time I am thinking about leaving the project and searching for something new but they are not releasing me. Due to this I visit the doctor and he says you are in depression and suggest some pills. Nothing motivates me here. Can anyone suggest to me what I do now.

Frontend Engineer

Software QA(Automation) having 3 yrs of exp with Salary 12LPA , thinking of switching to Backend dev role . Although here are my few queries : 

1. Is QA domain good in long run with respect to salary .
2. Will Dev role be difficult to adapt , as i have exp in development but only in writing test scripts .
3. How much should i expect the staring dev salary to be as compared to my current CTC ?
4. Is it a good switch , say if i stay in QA domain for 2 more years then i guess CTC would be around the ball park of 18 - 20 LPA . But if i switch to dev and gain 2 years of exp will it be able to match the salary of QA ?

I'm a frontend dev, with close to 5 years of workex. I've been trying to switch to a full stack dev role for a couple of years now. Tried switching internally, but it didn't work because there were too many backend devs and too much dependency. 

Stuck with an infinite leetcode loop, did online courses but couldn't put those skills to work in building projects.
 
I'm looking for some advice with a focus on cracking the interviews. The plan is to take up a Full stack dev role in the next 3 months.

How to transition from frontend to backend development?

Hi everyone, I am working in a service based giant of India for the past 2.4 years on Ruby on Rails. Ruby is a dying language & I need to switch as my salary is lower than what peons probably earns so need some guidance.
1. I am wanting to switch to Frontend completely and then some backend in a new company in MERN stack, what salary can I expect for my YoE ?
2. With all layoffs going, how can i make myself somewhat immune to these situations so that I don't have to search for a new job every few months ?
3. Starting frontend and then will be doing backend as well (becoming Full stack) is my choice of MERN stack correct ?

Job switch

When I saw Twitter and LinkedIn most of people titles shows fullstack developer and here I am afraid of calling my self a frontend enginner, because there is so much to learn in each domain itself.

Currently, I am working as a Frontend Developer in my current company and each day I am learning something new in Frontend. 

My question is that, should I continue exploring Frontend in my initial years and gradually explore other domains like backend or devops.

Because, I stunned by looking at the Job description of the companies that are hiring even for entry level jobs.
