Both indexes began diverging sometime close to when Fed started to aggressively hike rates. It appears that the post-COVID rally was more favourable to the S&P but NIFTY is currently outperforming on absolute returns.

My idea is fundamentally simple. Financial prudence during the raging recovery paid off for us, the economy appears resilient and poised to do well in the near to mid-term. It also reflects that markets are pricing recessionary risk very differently to both markets.

Did the banks fire any one? No 
Did the Railways fire anyone? No 
Did the media agencies fire anyone? No 

Did Large Tech companies and IT fire people? Absolutely yes 

Tech is the most ruthless-stupid sector that is so flimsy and short sighted that it doesn't care jack-shit about employees

Tech companies will pay employees large salaries in a heartbeat, they'll hire 1000s of them and then fire 100s of them in a heartbeat destroying careers. 

Sigh!

Tech has failed to be a good employer; Layoffs are just one example

Not the way it works. 
It's a function of how fast an industry grows -> The faster it is, the more you have to hire in advance, because you know if the pace continues, you'll need as many. 

Railways needs 5K people this year, they need 5K next year
Google needs 5K people, they need 7.5K next year (if things continue) 
At startup needs 500 people today, it needs 2000 next year (if pace continues) 

So when the pace does not continue, the impact is equally drastic.
Startup fires 25-30%
Google fires 5-10%
Railway fires no one.

The realization that the Fed would hike rates to curb inflation means that funding is about to dry up as big money will be invested away into debt/T-Bills. Though demand remained robust, the stock market felt the impact as JPow raised the interest rates. 

Late 2022 and 2023 saw the tech landscape experiencing layoffs, and startups facing significant headwinds. It’s a wonder  if anyone raised this year.

But here's the twist—2024 looks brighter. The stock markets have rebounded to all-time highs, signaling that things may be on the rise. Despite geopolitical tensions in Ukraine and Iraq, the macro outlook for India shines bright. 

For Indian Startups? VC Funding is still here to stay. So keep your heads down and keep building. From what I am hearing, it is set to make a roaring comeback. There is now significant rationality in the funding ecosystem leading to realistic valuations.

However, this revival will come with a plot twist. Newer companies, fueled by fresh funding, are set to rise, while most of the lofty valuations of those who raised in 2021 are about to crash and burn.

So buckle up folks. Let’s see where it takes us.

Personally, I thought I should invest in the index fund. Because, I don't want to take the risk with this amount. 

But I would still like to know 2 things - 

1. Is the index fund fine? 
2. Is it the right time to invest in lumpsum Or should I do an SIP of 20k?

Where to invest Rs. 2 lacs right now?

We don’t know your risk profile, but your statement gave me a hint of conservative.  
  
 For a conservative investor in the current market situation, I will do 2 step investing. 
  
 1. Put 1.6/1.8L in arbitrage/liquid fund  
 2. Start monthly index investing with 20k 
  
 If I see 2.5% correction in index, I will move 60k in index from arbitrage/liquid. If index sees more than that, I will transfer rest of the amount to index.  
  
 The above method will preserve my capital & gains both.

What is the probability of generating significant wealth (1-5Cr) by working at startups(Both US headquartered and India headquartered) in India? 
Is Generating wealth through ESOPS normal thing in India or very few lucky ones make such money? 
Do you know guys who have made significant money by working at startups? 
If yes, what parameters one should look for while identifying such startups?

I don’t have much knowledge about investing, for now i have following investments

- 10 Lac in FD
- 5 Lac in stock where I have bought stocks of well known large cap company without any analysis assuming that it will grow in long term

Where to invest in India for long term ?

Hi guys, 
I have around 4L cash lying around which I wanted to invest. Currently, I think I am in a position to take maximum risks, and see where things go. I also haven’t redeemed the 1.5L tax deduction on Section 80c so PPF and ELSS are open as an investment opportunity. 

I was worried to invest in the current equity markets. Have just put in around 6.5L into Equities in December (Split equally amongst Large, Mid, Small and Flexi Cap) 

Needed advice on which seems a better option:
- Put 1.5L in PPF and the rest in Large Cap MFs since Large Caps haven’t peaked yet
- Distribute the 4L over the next year (~33k/month) and invest it in a SIP to account for market changes
- Put the entire amount into equities (1.5L ELSS, 2.5L Large Caps)

Also, needed advice if it’s better to look for a Real Estate or SGBs Investment to diversify risk? (<25 yo right now so can take a property around 40-50L to test the waters)

What are your views on the current market? I’m planning to continue investing a significant chunk (~50% salary) into SIPs all through. Should I reconsider?
