My friend was supposed to join MPL but his offer got rescinded. I also heard they’ll start laying off soon. 
Can anyone shed some light on this? 

Because I was planning on taking a role there as soon as my friend joined in.

Heard they have awesome work life balance + free food + frequent parties etc etc.

From what I hear from a friend who is aware of the leadership discussions, MPL might be looking to lay off close to 50% of its workforce and shut down most of its other BU’s to consolidate by October. This would include folks even till the SVP levels. This might be one of the first pins to fall with the 28% GST rule kicking in by October. Dark days ahead for online RMG  industry in India

companies like MPL should not exist in the first place. Why promote gambling?. not for any moral reasons,  if someone wants to gamble, let them go to a casino and do it. Instead, making it easier for some one to gamble at  any time/anywhere is unacceptable.

following events occurred before and after layoff:
(Layoff was planned long before just that GST gave a good excuse)
1. Two months back on call to employees they announced no need to worry we have good run way and we are doing good. They said all are safe.
2. A month back call happened again for GST calls
3. GST arrived
4. A call got scheduled informing mass layoff
5. Layoff happened, two types of people got affected, 
firstly who were not needed got laid off because they were being paid more than for what they contribute.
Secondly, politics happened and people who are paid reasonably and even people who are getting less salaries and are hard working also got laid off
6. After a. successful execution of Layoff, since no body pin pointed about why such big cut just after the announcement,  again a call got scheduled.
7. Hikes were announced for all and again the same promises what they did before layoff to all. 
8. Party happened and good sleep because they achieved a great milestone.
9. next we will get to know after the long weekend.

I am personally in pain seeing such good folks parting ways. Its called backstabbing. I know few folks very personally and they are cream but bad at politics and sycophancy. 
I hope god put them all in better place. 

Severance pay and laptop is not as helpful as a job at this point of time.

The market is not good, MPL should have supported folks who were loyal to them.

With the news about McK also offering severance based voluntary attrition, wanted to get a sense of how are things across MBB in India?

The hiring has been over optimised, the batch of 2024 and the summer intern batch, count of new hires should go back to 2019 levels

How is the promotion scene looking like? Are you hearing of headcount rationalization in the India offices? 

Folks were expecting natural attrition will help with HC nos, I don't think it has really played out that way

With govt breathing down neck of all gaming RMG cos heard some big names are leaving

1. Senior leadership exits at one of the big Rummy RMG players. Silent exits expected of one entire layer because they don’t want to message that they are not doing well with all govt GST laws. Business drop by 50%

2. Mobile Premier League / MPL CEO cofounder is going to step down. The other cofounder who runs the company day2day will take over. News is that CEO has been on vacation even with all this GST action & some notices they got. laying off 50% of company & then with 20cr house think he has done enough

Storytime: I work at Gojek. This year on 10th March 2023, I was supposed to be laid off in their second minerva round. But got saved due to office politics. Ever since I found out, like a sane person, I've been on the lookout - but like an insane person, for whatever reason, not aggressively. Finding out that you got saved because of petty office politics, and how pointless everything is- changed the way I look at Jobs/companies. While I did wanna move, I wasn't desperate. All of them are snakes.

Anyway, Since then, I've interviewed only for 3 companies. All 3 of them didn't work out.

First company - After the intro call , I was told that this wasn't a good fit . No explanations given. I was quite sad on that one. First kick back from the world after learning I was to be fired. Self doubt was heavy at this point. 

Second company - cleared everything but they weren't making a good offer. Took 1.5 months to meet at an agreeable salary. I still wasn't happy and parted ways,sad that it didn't work out. 

During our negotiations, the Indian government changed some policies that hit their industry hard. This company is now just trying to minimize the impact of the new policies, currently. They were not able to offer market industry salary then and I'm sure wouldn't be able to do so now. Layoff rumours in the air. I wonder what would have happened had I given in and accepted their mediocre offer or they had given in and given me something they couldn't sustain. 

Third: I interviewed at MPL. I was impressed by the HR, the interview panel- great product minds to work with and grow. The salary discussed in the intro call seemed great. I cleared 3 rounds. Went and met them. However I didn't clear, post that. HR ghosted me abruptly. I kept following up. After a week they responded. Feedback wasn't constructive or detailed . It was borderline harsh. I was super sad. I thought MPL would be it. 

Woke up to the news of MPL layoffs today. Indian government  changed GST 🤣

Are these signs from God or the government? Starting to believe there's some higher power in the universe

What happens, happens for the best. People don’t seem to get it initially, however, retrospectively it all makes sense somehow.

MPL’s FY23 net loss fall over 80% to INR 87.2 Cr from INR 449.4 Cr in the previous financial year

Becoz of GST many companies are pivoting or changing gaming algo to make players loose to pay GST. Game of chances are being launched

1. MPL , Launched betting games 
2. Zuppee , teen patti and betting games 
3. Games craft , rummy circle rigged card distribution
4. Tradex , Probo Mostly will shut down 
5. Rummy apps , Better opinion , tamasha and other small companies are planning to shut down RMG part
6. Nazara acquired RMG companies are unable to operate 
7. Octro is closing the RMG app. 

What more ? If anyone knows do share up.

Hoping they all close ASAP. 28% GST  is not enough. It should be higher at 50%.

Westerners used Internet and computing to design better planes and build better engines, our guys are using it to play cards.

After many senior leaders in Finance and Corporate, now entire product team has left MPL. Gaming company is running without a product leader and team 😂 Remaining leaders are on verge of quitting before December

Anyone who is still sticking around is elevated, given functions and divisions with no clue about. Maybe of course nobody is willing to join them 😂

From saying they are not OUT looks like now MPL is ALL OUT in a few months
