How do you evaluate the risk and the potential of the offer from an early-stage (seed stage done) startup in India?

For example (hypothetical), a seasoned leader / founder is starting a new startup in fintech industry (e.g., next zerodha, etc). They raise 10 million USD at 30 million USD post-money valuation. 

I took fintech as example specifically to ensure it's not only engineers that will be needed from the beginning.

* Now, If I were to join as a founding team member (founding engineer for example), what kind of salary, ESOPs one should expect as minimum?

* If I were to join after 2-3 engineers are already hired (so not founding engg anymore), what is realistic expectation? 

* What are some questions I must ask to evaluate if the offer and equity I am being given is good or not.

(I know there's probably no way to generalise a "good/bad offer" as that likely depends also on very specific situation of the startup - like what problem is it trying to tackle, and what is the potential of it, etc. So feel free to share your experience as well if not advice)

I got a offer where i will get the equity. Does people really make money when company get sold considering in my case if i get 1% equity.

Also how does it work? Suppose when we start valuation of the company is 1 cr so my part will be 1L. Now in the next round suppose the valuation is 10cr then does it increase my equity to 10L or it dilute my % of equity?

Suppose if the company is sold at 100cr, do i really get 1 cr? Kindly let me know how it works and really people make money or not if it get sold.

I recently got an offer for a founding engineer role at a very early stage startup. The product is not out yet and the role is meant to be building the initial product to be sold to customers who have showed interest in it. The startup is in the payment ops space.

The comp offered is 15lpa and equity of 10lac or 0.5% whichever is higher. I have 3.5yrs of experience and left my job in October last year. I had an exponential growth in my package while moving companies and made 45lpa + ESOPS in my last job, starting with 4.5lpa as a fresher.

I know that I might not be able to get the same comp now given the scenarios in the software and tech industry. 

I wanted to know how to best analyse a comp package for a founding engineer role, particularly at this point in time?

I have 6 years experience. My current base/fixed is 60 LPA. (I also got a 5 lakh bonus and 5 lakh of my ESOPs vested this year making my total vested about 30 lakh. So the total comp is 70). 

I'm being offered a senior engineer position in an early stage startup (as part of the founding engineer team). They haven't given an offer yet.

Being early stage, the emphasis will most likely be on ESOPs. How do I evaluate this and set my expectations? (If I were to switch to a mature company, I believe the hikes usually are between 15-20%? How does this work for early stage startups?)

Hi I am working in a pre-seed startup. The product is good and the industry has scope to grow. 
I am their first hiring, as well as the only Backend Engineer till now. I am about to complete 1 year.

Company's current valuation is 2M at 11% and I have recieved 5Lakh as Esops vested in 4 years in last year's CTC.

I want to negotiate for a direct equity handover apart from my ESOPS at Uniocorn valuation of the company with my CTO in coming months like 1% equity. I want to ask if anyone else had done such contract with their founders and negotiation tips to succeed with negotiation

Hi everyone, I joined a startup back in May which started in May itself. I wrote the first line of code and it has been the backend work since then and have hired a few interns along the way. 

I took some pay cut to join this startup and i didn't receive any share/ESOPs as well in my offer letter. but whenever i talk to my friends who have worked or are working in these types of companies, ask me to ask for the ESOPs/equity from my founder. 

I did talk about  equity/ESOPs before accepting my offer letter but that time, they said, you will be issued ESOPs later on when we raise some funding. We will make some ESOPs plan when we raise funding. 

I know that our company has only raised friends and family round of amount near to 1cr. 

Now I need advice on.. should i bring up this conversation again with the company's founder ? 
And how much percentage of equity should I be asking..? 

 given that I am giving my 101% daily and leading the backend team.. although i have industry experience of only 3 years but have good academic achievements and has completed graduation in computer science in tier-1 college.

How to ask for ESOPs when you are a founding engineer

So I'm working on this freelance project for about an year and I've scaled it to 50k users and built almost everything from scratch wearing multiple hats i.e looking after product, infra and marketing and the founder initially asked me for a C level position but I denied because ik I have lot to learn and I'm not after titles atm. FF, now I'm planning to ask for an equity and be a full time at the company (as we discussed initially) but I denied that too because for that I had to leave my Full time job and I was not sure about that, at this point I'm pretty much confident that it's time to go all in. It also might be kinda stupid decision because I denied a 20 LPA job but if not now then when.

So help me how should I take things? So if I ask for an equity I wouldn't be allowed to draw salary or something? I have no clue about these things. It'd be real helpful if someone can shed some light.

PS: it's a pre seed startup but yeah not much money in bank.

I'm considering an offer from a BLR based startup which is >Series D. This is for a Growth role.

Currently in a Series B startup where I have been for about 3 years now (been here since inception) and have 1% equity. What would be the right % of equity to ask for while making the switch? 9 YOE.

Would also be helpful if anyone can share the benchmarking of % equity for maybe every Series for the larger benefit of the community. TIA.
