This happens a lot.

Be politically correct, acknowledge problem, put it in backlog, but don’t follow the suggested solution. Talk to multiple folks and find out the way to solve it. Next thing which comes is priority. Try to involve your manager and show the backlog, items which are important for now and why you can’t pick the requirement atm. Most of the times this should work.

Im a Product Manager 1yoe in a SaaS startup.
I had a good experience in the first year. I got to build a product 0-1, competitor analysis, work on creating prioritization frameworks, UAT, content marketing, wireframing.

However, since January the compamy started their stabilization phase, and PM's are now taking care of Sales and lead generation(Content, Ads etc.). The nail in the coffin is we are getting dragged to follow up renewals( Customer Success) 🤢

Im currently motivated to building something new, and it feels like we are being dragged into everything as the company does not want to hire. With no pay hike or any adfitional benefit.

Please advice. Should I look for a new job?

Let me explain, managers or senior folks who reply/slack/email or do any form of communication outside working hours and especially over weekends… I hate it. If u do it without the counter party explicitly expressing such urgency then you are way worse. 

Just because their current lifestyle or situation allows them to do it… They do it without a second thought. They do not realize that this sets the benchmark or expectations for others who may not be able or like to do same. 

You might say they’re not coercing others to do it then what’s the harm? Well this little thing is what sets the chain reaction to unhealthy WLB. The stakeholders or their heads get the wrong impression and create unhealthy expectation from others. This is just a rant and if u are such a person… Stop doing it without thinking of its unintended consequences.

been working at a product based startup as the only ui/ ux designer for over 6 months now. work is usually solving for and designing new features, or thinking redesign from user grievances. the products were already designed for them by an agency before my joining and feel poorly designed to me, but does the job for the users. decisions regarding usage and the how-tos of implementation are taken by the product leads.

in such a scenario, i don't see myself taking product decisions, but i try to suggest my ideas (mostly accepted) when we frame the requirements and solutions. how do i grow from just largely only designing what my leads tell me, to actually making an impact with the products we have?

background- i'm an electronics engineer, landed a design internship at a startup a little before graduation and they offered a full time role after. accepted it over my placement and it's been over 6 months in this role.

4 out of 5 product managers will act all high and mighty of themselves, bragging their way as if they run everything going on in the company, flaunting their business degrees and being utterly disrespectful towards their team( dev design qa name it), 

Recently started going to office so the attitude I am seeing is very transparent and more visible (more with the higher experience folks)

It makes me wanna leave this hyper inflated role, thinking of I will end up like them scares me, and you have to do is speak out jargons in meetings day in day out and have a English accent of Shashi Tharoor.

Recently my manager told that this is a role where you have to very representable or very visible and act in floor as if you are the busiest person on earth and I seriously some PMs in company doing that, they walk so fast in floor as if they will fall off or would be better to have 4 legs.

I am done with this product management shit

"How do you look after any program from start to end that comes to you? How do you prioritize? What was the product process you followed?"

I explained the exact thing that i have followed in my previous company as a PM intern but the interviewer did not like the answer (maybe my structuring was wrong or maybe my way of communication). 

I want to understand from the experienced folks - how would they approach this question if they were asked this in an interview?

I am fed up with people who try to steal other people’s credit. Be it your manager, your colleague or anyone how do you avoid them from taking your credit for the work you have done. Worst part is seeing them try hard to showcase it as their own. What do you all suggest for such situations?

I have been a PM for the last 1.5 years before that I had marketing experience after which I took a career change and landed here

The work I did in PM till now has been quite focused on execution part but not product/strategy neither I developed any kind of product roadmap or was involved.

In job 1 (small company less than 20 workforce) - I spent around 11 months in which I created 3 apps 2 web and one mobile as per business direction and their approach towards customer and market then I changed my job because I was more interested to change my domain since I had spent around 5 years approx in a single domain and also wanting to manage a bit mature product along with to learn product strategy and roadmap and also monetary upgrade

I was the only Pm here spearheading everything below me were QA and project co-ordinator and outsourced developers

In job 2 (A company with around 400-500 employees) - I have spent around 4 months as a PM here it's a new domain their product is a bit mature has thousands of users but again I feel the same as I felt earlier I have been doing more execution work rather than strategy and roadmap or learn any new skills neither I feel the boss is very helpful and he's is the co-founder of the company.

Here also I am the only PM here but tech is inhouse and we have a great bonding in terms of work but everyone feels dissatisfied nor they have learnt anything new since arriving.

There are also concerns at company level which I feel are scary that their goal is to optimize costs from everywhere possible and they have not been paying salary on time plus the upper management is also implementing extreme micromanagement on tech and product function as we all feel like we have been just striking list from sheet in terms of development which we are supposed to complete.

I am again thinking to switch job but the market is not well as it was few months back I am in a bit of dilemma here on what is right and what is not?

In last 3 years, I have switched 3 companies. I hate my current company especially considering my precious companies. Also, I cannot go back to my organisation because of location constraint.
