I am a trainee working as a structural engineer. I am given work which is very new to me and never taught and even discussed in the college curriculum. This makes it harder for me as I have to start from basics and not be able to send deliverables on target dates.

I will be graduating as a civil engineer in this summer and want to start as a structural engineer in industrial, high rise and offshore structures. I have devoted my whole bachelor's period into structures.

Most companies in campus wants students to work as site engineer with 25k max salary. Even MNC are taking 1 student out of 2-3 colleges with 30k salary.

Since turkey earthquake a huge discussion has began about having safe structures but when I approached few society to help them in designing retrofits for their structural members they wanted me to do it for Max 15k including all of the site supervison and recreating all of their plans because they have lost their structural plans. (Currently working as a intern in a retrofitting company which pays 15% for the work which interns find like a salesperson.)

Did I do mistake on taking civil engineering especially from a tier 2 college in Mumbai? How do people expect structural engineers to be paid less when they literally swear to get jailed and get stripped of their licences when a building even sway a bit?

Do people don't like living in a safe structure or have choosen to die because structural engineering jobs don't even exists now for freshers.

Hi all senior engineer

I am also an engineer with just 2 years of experience. Recently joined startup and getting so damn tight deadline. The project I'm working on is relatively small but there are so many states update and too frequently.
They don't have any low level design or high level design or any data pipeline or message broker service. Just figma arts which I'm suppose to implement but the state functionality is complex and not able to deliver within time.

What should I do?

Please advise me if you are seeing this doesn't matter good or bad.

I'm good at all the things (I'll say better but I lost my confidence after the incident ) I'm doing but not able to get all functionality done on time. From data science team all API's ready. So please suggest me some idea with your experience.

I work in a startup. We're currently on an ongoing pivot. I started working here as a founding engineer. I have worked here for around 2 years now. Majorly i worked on frontend part with react native (which is totally a new thing for me when i joined). During my tenure here there was no senior engineer who could review my work and give me the skills i required to build my career. Our founder was happy if the app was working fine. During the initial phase we needed to launch the app as soon as possible so i quickly learned the basic things i needed to make an app with react native. In this time all of these things (js and web world) are very new to me as i was coming from developing native android apps with java. Now im trying to switch so that i can work with a team of experienced engineers. While attempting interviews for frontend engineer, I found that whatever I've done in my current job was nothing more than a college project and I really didn't got to learn any industry level stuff. I'm feeling like im still a fresher out of college. 

I tried working on my frontend skills but as we all know it's a very huge field. Html, css, js, frontend frameworks, hell lot of libraries.

I'm feeling so overwhelmed.

Whenever i attend a new interview i get to know new concepts which i never knew exist.


Any suggestions for me guys?

Startup struggle : exponential downward learning curve

Its been around a year since I've started working in a service based company as a Frontend dev, WLB, compensation and all is good based on I've just started.
During this year of working I do not feel like I've done anything, our team is working on a product for past 2-3 year and its nearing the completion. My role was mostly to cordinate with testing team and solve frontend bugs and minor addition to the project (which was mostly copy pasting), even doing these minor task took me some time initially and I still have to take help from seniors time to time. 
I got kinda bored with all the repetitive task and I requested my manager to assign me to other development happening within team, he agreed and assigned me some different task but I cant seem to understand anything here, 
I get stuck in the most basic things, I feel stupid when I am not able to come up with easy solutions.

I am seeing other engineers learning new tech stacks in a small amount of time and getting hold of it while i am not able to understand things in my own tech stack.

I've recently gotten a appraisal as well(my company is quite good and gives it to everyone) and I feel like I don't deserve a bit of it.

 I am a 2023 graduate , I did MCA because that was the only good option I could see for myself(mostly cz of money) at that time earlier to that I did a bachelor's (Non CS) without gaining any knowledge of anything.
My basics are not that good, In college my only focus was to get a job so I did DSA and some front-end development using ReactJS(projects mostly code along with ytube) to be able to grab a good placement.

Is software engineering not for me? If no, then how do I overcome this, i don't wanna be a mediocre.

I don't understand big codebase, integration services.
I feel like quitting this job and do something else but can't gather enough courage as job is paying well and paying my education loan also.

Not able to perform

Recently joined a company.We majorly work in c and c++ . It has been a few months since I joined the company but it feels like I haven't really learnt anything new nor am I contributing majorly in any way . In this time span I have rarely coded and it feels like it is affecting my career deeply, especially being a fresher in this domain.I want to know the possible ways to tackle this situation and what else that you guys recommend.

I am a BE graduate after college I tried govt exams but  couldn't clear it...after that i learned a software on my own i joined a small company which  trained me little nd projected me as a experienced to a client, i cleared interview and got placed to the client but that project is too complex and even fr small tasks i am taking weeks to complete....daily i feel bad nd humiliated fr not completing tasks and people are not friendly here... Hi, guys. I just switched to a new role (UX Writing) and its been 14-15 days. I am getting major work FOMO here. Here are two things I am feeling, help me navigate through this? 

1. I am not aligned to a project/account yet. Feeling a bit restless, I feel like reaching out to seniors and teammates and I do. Yet, there’s little clarity on how I will be resourceful to the entire set up. 

2. Brushing up on my skills until formal tasks are allocated to me. However, I learn more on the job, rather than through training. How to make most of the time and resources available?

I have been doing designs for the past 5-6 years and stuck both professionally and financially. In my current job(2 year completed) I am not seeing any growth at all, no proper design process in place, no growth for the designer cause there is no ladder on how someone will reach the top in your organization, moreover they still use sketch as a tool, so i don't even know how to use components, libraries, styles vgerg vgerh.
This is the first requirement for nowdays to choose any company that you know figma.

Feeling a bit sad today that my juniors that I have guided in the past are now in good product companies and doing good both professionally, financially and life wise,

I started applying for a job 1 year back and the first thing they asked was do you have a figma file, second this is a very simple work you are doing, i am depressed.

I recently graduated from a Tier-1 MBA college and got placed in a well-known digital firm as an Assistant Project Manager. I underwent compliance training etc for the first month and then got aligned to a tight deadline project as a developer, as there were no openings related to my expertise available. Note that I have no formal experience as a developer. The project is off the rails as no one here knows how to do their job properly. I am really exhausted and my health is getting affected. my_qualification: B.Tech IT from tier-3 college. 70%
I am 24 years old. I graduated in 2021 and had total 13 backlogs during UG and it took me 5 years to complete my degree. I am unemployed since my graduation and have been wasting my time on learning random things or multiple technologies at a same time. 2 months ago I decided to go to Canada for masters and my family supported me, my friend suggested me MS Data Science because he is Data Scientist in Canada. So, I gave IELTS in March and scored 7 band. Recently I had a talk with an Agency named Canam. And they suggested me to get Experience Letter + offer letter + LOR from employer + last 6 months payslip also Backlog Certificate from college but I don't have any of these things. What should I do in this situation? How should I move forward? How can I get my life on track? I'm just confused and not sure what should I do.

Should I go to Canada for Masters in Data Science? If yes, how?

I've been in this field for about 15 years now and post-covid this field has become a borderline joke and I feel embarrassed about Design in India.

Do not think that Designing involves ONLY a lot of Visual Design work, importance to "craft", motion design etc.

The kind of work you need to do should involve a LOT of user research, planning, testing, domain knowledge, technical knowledge and actual hands on design work.  I don't get to do a lot of it today but back in the day it was all that we were taught by our Design Leads.

Now because of these influencers whenever I tell people that Design is innovative and based in Behavioural Science, they assume that my work is easy, doesn't take much time, I just have to design screens etc and I keep on explaining to them that you're wrong and there's more to it.

Thanks to clown influencers, kids think if they follow these clowns they can get into FAANG or some top tier company.

I'm really scared of the state of Design in India 5 years down the line when these design kiddies become more senior.

This post is for getting guidance/opinion on the role switch from support role to development role. I really need help from fellow colleagues and exp professionals to proceed further.

So, I had 2.5 years of experience in SAP domain and recently I have switched internally (within the org) to the software engineering team that has complete back end work to do for a foreign client. Tech-stack is Java 17, Eclipse Jersey, MySQL, MongoDB, Azure Cloud and some other technologies too.

Parallelly I have been a part of an online platform for software engineering courses (eg. Bosscoder etc), where I learnt DSA, spring boot, HTML, CSS and JavaScript with React framework. The front end engg. part is not covered yet, but a part of the curriculum.

Now my doubt is, I am planning to work for some months here and in my resume, stretch the starting time of the SWE role,  to shadow down the SAP experience. Like 4-5 months experience shown as a year or so. Tell me if it can be a good strategy to reduce barriers of not having experience to join SDE roles in prod-based MNCs. (I know, that I will have to showcase deserving skills, based on experience, in the next company to get an offer, but still!)

Secondly, can the backend framework (Jersey) become a barrier to the job switch to java spring boot roles. Some people told me that experience matters and not the frameworks. I need ur opinions.

Lastly, I am recruited as a Senior software engineer, I will have to prove my worth not just to other companies, but  internally within the team. How can I learn more in less time, to equalise the skills with the job role, not 100% but even 60-70% would work. Where to start, what to take care?!
