I joined this after seeing an ad. But i think i should engage more. It avoids all kinds of hassles when things are anonymous

• Anonymous hence feel less judged than in real life. Of course, unless some of you choose to be (very) vocal about your feelings. People send love over DM and hate in comments – the world we live in :)

• Crazy coincidences we might not know. Like, you could be standing in line at the mall next to someone you've already spoken to in DMs on GV, and neither of you would have a clue! Or maybe you're connected on LinkedIn with the person, but completely oblivious to it.

• The best part? No discrimination!
On caste, religion, name, place, animal, thing

• I can speak my mind without fear. The number of rants I have on this platform, if they were anywhere else (social media or real life), I would lose friends and followers in an instant (or landed up in lock up)


P.S. I wanted a person/username content search option, like being able to visit @salt 's awesome threads. But I guess it's for the better. Scrolling through a year of my posts, I see I'm not the same person I was last year.

P.P.S. A nagging feeling says I'll eventually run into community guideline trouble, despite my best intentions.

I feel that when you open up to people about your traumas and insecurities, people are only going to use it against you in an arguement.

While you might argue that not everyone does that, and I would be the first one to agree to that. But you somehow stop trusting everyone, even your shadow , when your favorite people become your most bitter life lessons. 

The one who feels emotions always ends up suffering more. In the hindsight, it feels as if being a bare minimum "good human" is a curse. 

However,

I have been using grapevine to vent out and connect with strangers and so far I have only met supportive and empathetic human beings (most of them). 

Despite being covered in the sheild of anonymity, most people have only been respectful and kind. 

This proves that we, as humans , are only meant to love each other. Hatred is futile. Empathy is inherent while hatred is "cultivated".

I hope grapevine founders dont stumble across this post else theyll start charging premium fees when they realize how highly people speak of this platform lol

Few observations:
1. Our generation has moved on from orthodox thinking (baring few people) to more emotional compatibility
2. Men have more worldly expectations, while women seek spiritual features; none are right/wrong as long as they find each other.
3. Very glad that no one 'expected' the partner to take up gendered roles as dictated by society

So, coming to the matchmaking platform. The idea is to have all aspects of life considered - personality, profession, family, demographics, physical attributes, etc. and have a weighted scale against them.

Though I have my doubts here
1. An Introvert will need an extrovert to seek them but will be drained of social battery later. How do they match?
2. Physical attributes pull down people who aren't confident with their looks; that doesn't relate to how good/bad they are as partners. But without pictures, it will be a risky surprise element.
3. Prevent parents from creating accounts on children's behalf. Probably a social media log-in

Share your thoughts on the compatibility algorithm and the problems we may face.

P.S. I am not a techie, will need someone to actually build this. Will take care of marketing.

Write about a time you made someone feel very nice. Hopefully it can be a collection of ideas that others can take forward. If somehow a few people do something nice as a result, that would be powerful.

To start with an example: Bought a laptop for my grandfather because he wanted to continue working post 60. Helped him learn Excel, Gmail, Chrome browsing over many days. He really picked it up, and works as a consultant for new companies in the industry he worked all his life.

You know its the small things that you do everyday that matter - giving your staff an off when they ask and not cutting their pay, feeding stray animals, quietly paying the bill when you know the other person is struggling financially, not haggling with street vendors for 100rs (when you’re paying 800rs to eat popcorn in PVR), changing the topic of conversation when you realise someone is feeling uncomfortable yet cannot say in front of others… we all need high empathy skills 🙏🏻

My current salary is 42LPA. I am from IIT, have 7 years of experience and work in product. Honestly, my value in the market is higher than what I’m being paid but I am very demotivated to optimise for that. When I do see less deserving people minting more money, I feel that I am doing injustice to myself and playing the wrong hand.

More and more though, the thought of earning more money chokes me a bit. I have dreams of building something of my own - that gives me control to build something my way and freedom to live my life as per my terms. But the mindset of “zyada paisa pareshaani hai” doesn’t leave me.

My family also is not dependent on me and whatever is needed from my side, I actively contribute to. I also lack any motivation to focus on my investments and see my money grow. I just have money sitting around in my bank account purely for nothing

I also look at my lifestyle choices from time to time and go into existential debate of why we need the things that we do. This has come to a point where I really do not understand my relationship with money and why we earn and spend it. 

For me at this point, it’s just a show for the world. There’s very little that you need, and really no limit to what you want to show. And I just don’t see a point in it anymore.

 I get the trouble you face. When you’ve almost figured out what you like and what you don’t like (that money isn’t thaaat needle moving, I have basic needs) but at the same time, the opportunity cost of relaxing is too high - everybody from your batch will remind you of how far you can go, and the middle class boy in you will find it difficult to stomach letting go of all the money, even though you can make it  
  
 Went through this at one point. I have ultimately sided with money. I cannot sit back and relax. Money will only unlock a lot of foreign travel and good lifestyle for me. But more than that, I am lucky to be in a position that allows me to earn money easier than other people do. So I’ll make it, help extended family and people who cannot earn as easily, because at least in a country like India, it’s almost a responsibility. We’re not fucking Europe. 
  
 I’ll just not kill myself for it as much as I used to :)

Hi, Just wanted to appreciate this channel. With the anonymity, people are really open on their perspectives of news and hence leads to a better debate. Also, since people are kind of educated and sincere, you see a better debate rather than the ones happening on twitter with all nonsense and abusive terms. I am a person who loves to discuss and debate current happenings with others and this channel actually has become a good platform for me.

There are a few psychological and sociological theories that can help explain why anonymous forums may naturally tend towards negativity.

The separation from real-life consequences can result in people saying or doing things they wouldn't normally do, which can sometimes lead to negative behavior.

Some individuals derive satisfaction from creating conflict or distress for others online aka "trolling". Anonymous forums provide a fertile ground for trolls as they can typically act without direct consequences.

The larger the crowd, the less likely individuals are to take responsibility for a situation. In an anonymous forum, people might be less likely to step in and stop negative behavior, leading to a proliferation of such behavior.

Overtime this forum will see bots to promote propaganda of one company or to spread shit about other companies. 

As a community there should be something around guidelines, rules, and constructs to reduce this. What are some of your suggestions?

To me, it’s all about access. 
Access to authentic ideas.

The best search result you get on Google is high SEO but low authenticity. On LinkedIn, there are so many people but everyone is shilling a course or 1:1 resume reviews. 

Mostly it has become a place which started as vanity signalling

( I have started a new role…, I have been accepted at …, I have received offers from F, A, N and G and I’m joining G.)  

And now people pushing mindless content with “Agree?” or “Comment Interested”.

Somehow, everyone is truly inauthentic to please a wider audience and say the exact same generic gyaan to maximise engagement.

For now, Grapevine is where people are genuinely themselves and I get to hear interesting things that you get to hear near the coffee machine.

Kinda feels like we’re all a big community where we all contribute and learn new things about the professional landscape around us.

Hola Grapeviners! I would love to know why are you on the platform?

I have been following this platform since it had nearly 500 users and have been a part of its Discord community for over two years. During this time, I have gained valuable insights and developed a deep respect for the kind individuals I have encountered and the meaningful posts that have been shared.

However, I must express my concerns. I am saddened and apprehensive because I do not want this platform to become just another saturated and mainstream platform. Over the past couple of months, I have noticed an increase in posts lacking intellectual or helpful intent and any content that contributes value to the community through insightful discussions. Instead, there is an increasing trend of people engaging in random and polarized political discussions, either directly or indirectly, or simply sharing mainstream articles and seeking opinions on matters of little significance.

Therefore, I kindly request the moderators to consider the quality of the posts.

I hope that this platform does not become or shares the denominator with those which are oversaturated and mainstream, as I have high expectations for its potential.
