I am a 36 Y, M,  Software Test Engineer (Automation) with 7+ years experience.
Present Location : Bangalore
Permanent & Family Location : Kolkata


I am thinking of shifting permanently to Kolkata and live with my family
NEED some solid advice .
After discussions with limited people and my analysis 
I am getting a big NO  because of political reasons 
eg. 
1.  No investment by corporate
2. Muslim appeasement
3. Bengal is on the way of Kerala and Kashmir, demography change due to illegal Bangladeshi.

I think the last few months have put Bengal into bad limelight 
1. Sandeshkhali Incident with TMC Sheikh Shahjahan
2. RG kar Gang rape case
3. Sharia Court by TMC Hamidul Rehman 
And the list goes on.

Am getting paranoid and worried for the safety of my parents and family.
Am I getting worried without any reason ?

Does switching to Kolkata be the correct decision ?
If not then which city will be a better option ?


Request 🙏 everyone to help me with serious suggestions.

I'm a 28-year-old married (Wife is also working) individual currently residing in Kolkata, where the living expenses are relatively low. I have 5 years of work experience, and my current compensation package is 28 lakhs fixed and 3 lakhs variable (approximately 1.95 lakhs in-hand salary after deductions). With no liabilities or responsibilities, my monthly expenses are around 40,000 INR, and I manage to invest around 1.5 lakhs per month.

Currently, I enjoy a stable job and live with my parents, who take care of most of my living expenses. However, I'm considering the possibility of switching jobs and moving to another city, which would require me to bear the additional costs of rent, food, and other living expenses on my own.

Question: Given my current financial situation and the potential for increased living costs in a new city, should I explore a job switch and relocation? Or should I continue with my current stable job and living arrangement in Kolkata, where my expenses are minimal? What factors should I consider when making this decision?

Nah stay there only. Why relocate to Bangalore If you are earning a decent amount and living with your family happily.

I am a Delhi person who has been living in Bangalore for the last 3 years. I like both cities (both have pros and cons) but I feel in a 10-15 year time frame, both are going to become unsustainable with traffic, safety, rising costs, infra issues and weather/air conditions (for Delhi)

From a long term POV, which Indian City is going to be the best city to live in? (factors)
1. Career Opportunities (could be job or a business as well)
2. Good infrastructure 
3. Cleanliness and safety 
4. Connectivity
5. Weather and sustainability 
6. Living expenditure is average but has good quality of life


Which city will be the winner?

Long term city to live in?

Probably tier2 cities,  
 Indore, Jaipur, bhopal, nagpur, nashik. 
 I think the above problems are/will be there in pune too sooner or later

I am a middle class guy working as a senior engineer in one of the product companies. I belong from the north-east, and I am the only child in my family. 

Since covid, I was working in a wfh setup. Recently, my company has ended work from home for everyone, and I am supposed to move to Bangalore very soon or quit. 

I am an active user on all social media groups on Reddit, Fb, etc. For the past couple of months after seeing so much of negative news about Bangalore, Especially the high population, skyrocketing rents, the auto unions, corruption, cut-throat competition, discriminative news, traffic issues, etc. It makes me nervous to be honest. My wfh here was pretty chill, and I had a very limited social circle here, but was satisfied since I could spend most time with my mom and dad. 

Im very afraid now about what should I do next, shall I quit the job and search for wfh, or shall I make my move. I don’t have any acquaintances there, no friends, no idea about what I’ll be doing next, how to start house hunting, or job hunting. At this point I am miserable and overwhelmed to think about all of this. 

Anyone who has gone through all of these, If you can share your 2cents, experiences or thoughts, about how you dealt this phase. It will be really helpful for me at this point in my journey. Thanks in advance! 🙏🏻

I have got two offers, One from MathCo (Data Analyst) Bang location, other is Accenture (ASE) Pune location. Salary wise almost same only mathco gives 20% you hike. Which to join?

My current location is pune so savings wise Accenture is better option but roles wise mathco is giving data science role. So bit confused which path to choose?

Have faced so much harrassment in bangalore from the localites. - it feels like hell.

It is all glittering buildings with goons filled in every other street.

For women, its feels pointless to stay safe here. If you don’t live in a gated society, forget about safety. Me being a man have been punched by localites once.

Anyways, our career plan :

We have experience at bigtech, now looking to start our own tech businesses. If that doesn’t workout, get back in corporate for a few years and then try again. 

We are both north indians.

Which city is the best alternative right now?



What’s important for us:
- transport should be easy
- access to cult, a few good outing spots, and smart folks around
- cheaper than bangalore
- safety, especially for women

We have no interest in partying/clubbing so that doesn’t matter.

Mumbai is expensive. 
Noida I cross out because I hear that it’s very unsafe. What about Gurgaon?

I have considered Hyderabad and Lucknow.
But few questions bother me:

- is it possible to run a startup remotely from Lucknow? If we stay in Hyderabad, will we get technical talent to hire?
- if we have to resort to coming back to corporate, at the age of 30, do they usually allow for remote option? For eg, Walmart, Google, Amazon, Microsoft etc. I don’t want to stay in blr at all. 

Please help guys.

One option is leaving India but don’t want to stay faraway from my parents.

I'm 25 and it's fuking lonely on the weekends. I stopped initiating meetups, afraid they might be busy, now I spend the weekends alone in my room. I live with my family, but now l'm fuking fed up of living in the same house as them. They don't understand anything, just act and talk as if they know everything about me. I don't have enough money to live with other people on rent, nor I am able to find a job in another city. I hate myself and my fuking life. I wish I could do something other than shouting whenever my parents all to me.

Sometimes what I think about the EY employee who died, she is lucky she's in a better place now.
