Should I switch and move to bangalore

I'm a 28-year-old married (Wife is also working) individual currently residing in Kolkata, where the living expenses are relatively low. I have 5 years of work experience, and my current compensation package is 28 lakhs fixed and 3 lakhs variable (approximately 1.95 lakhs in-hand salary after deductions). With no liabilities or responsibilities, my monthly expenses are around 40,000 INR, and I manage to invest around 1.5 lakhs per month.

Currently, I enjoy a stable job and live with my parents, who take care of most of my living expenses. However, I'm considering the possibility of switching jobs and moving to another city, which would require me to bear the additional costs of rent, food, and other living expenses on my own.

Question: Given my current financial situation and the potential for increased living costs in a new city, should I explore a job switch and relocation? Or should I continue with my current stable job and living arrangement in Kolkata, where my expenses are minimal? What factors should I consider when making this decision?

Nah stay there only. Why relocate to Bangalore If you are earning a decent amount and living with your family happily.

Hey, yes thats the plan now for next 1-2 years.

Try travelling in Bangalore for a week. People spend more time in traffic than in home 😂.
And Everything costs 2-3x more here 🥲

You are living a dream life of many individuals here. Earning more then what you can spend, staying with parents and in your home town around your friends and ecosystem. Why leave this and go elsewhere. Of course if the money offered is significantly higher which tilts the decision for you then fine if that’s what you are after, but for a minor increase it’s not worth it

Well i do believe its kinda dream for many, specially being able to live around parents, childhood, school friends. I have decided not to consider for atleast 1-2 years. Will think post that depending on the situation.

Bro it's so sad that you earn 1.9 lakhs a month still your parents take care of your living expenses. I am a single daughter of my parents earning half of your salary but still take care of my parents health insurance, pay house electricity bill, grocery bill Everything I do. How you can say you are independent. You are just a liability to yourself and your parents earning and siting at home.

Hey, am yet to comment on other replies but just wanted to comment on this one first. My dad earns almost same as me if not same. I have been providing all the happiness or the materialistic things which are expected out of me. Don’t even count of being a good son, I don’t think i need a validation there from other people. He has categorically denied any kind of financial support from me my brother or my wife till date. He just wants us to save/invest. I on the other hand pays for the trips, shopping and eating out. I hope you understand its not that complicated and don’t draw conclusions.

Maybe your family's dynamics work in that way but this is the problem of our youth these days that they are in illusion of saying that they are independent by taking any kind of help with their parents.

It's highly recommended to stay in Kolkata. The living expenses, rent, children's education are extremely high and traffic and air quality is pathetic. Apart form all these Bangalore is not like old days... Local language feelings have increased and it's not good for outsiders. My humble suggestion is to stay there and search for good opportunities and stay with ur parents and family.

Hey hi, yes thats the plan now. Am quite clear about next 1-2 years and will stay here only.

Please stay there. I'm a Bangalorean (born and bred). Believe me, things were way better when I was a kid. It was truly a dream City. Heck, even 10 years ago, it was still ok.

Things have changed drastically from the past 5 years. Especially after covid.

Rents, expenses are out of the stratosphere.

ICSE/CBSE School fees is exorbitant. I studied in prestigious schools. My schools charge 2 lakhs plus for kindergarten admissions today. Frickin unbelievable!

A lunch at a good restaurant will cost you at least 3-5K for two people.

This city is just not worth it. All my friends have gone abroad for studies/jobs. Idk even if they'll come back. It's extremely difficult to make friends In this city, idk why.

So, if you're moving in from elsewhere, I'd advise against it. Come here only if you're desperate.

Also, I see so many companies hiring from Noida/gurgaon/Mumbai/Pune/NCR and Hyderabad.

This is proof that companies are moving away or don't want to come to Bangalore.

It's just not sustainable anymore, unless you come from generational wealth.

Just my 2 cents.

Hi, even I am from Kolkata and working in Bangalore since last 4 years. I hope one day to live the life you are living now. Bangalore’s cost of living is double than Kolkata’s. Rent here is almost thrice of what you are paying in Kolkata. I travel to Kolkata two times with my wife to meet parents. Dont even think of coming here. You are living the dream life.

Hi, I have dropped the plan and will continue here only. Never would have thought how precious this is until I saw these many people validating the points.

This proves that humans do not enjoy peace. They get bored soon n try to purposely put themselves in difficult conditions to "not be bored"

Well kinda yes, When I started my career in mumbai earning 46k per month, earning 12 LPA in Kolkata was a dream actually, have legit said this to my friends at that time. I have decided to continue here only and being optimistic about finding new challenges here itself 😅

Tbh, while everybody else is asking you to stay in Kolkata because your life is sorted - don't stop looking out

Your pay is great right now, but it always makes sense to just know if there's something much better in bangalore (it needs to be a significant jump for it to make sense to you)

Cuz when the next boom market comes, you dont wanna be left behind!

I agree with LFW here. Depends on your long term goals.

Also please mention the company name? Or atleast give us hint, without mentioning the keyword (thus avoiding indexing)

Stay there. The rent for 2bhk in these cities will cost 40k min. So even if you get some hike i don't think it will be wise to move

DerpyBurrito
DerpyBurrito

ah yes, A 2BHK is a minimum requirement considering visiting parents and in laws, and then addition of living expensed which might take monthly expensed to around 80-90k. I dont mind living frugally actually but am dropping the plan atleast for 1-2 years until i get some significant hike.
