I currently work in a project that is driven by CEO and he is very intimidating. I work my ass off to make sure he gets what expects but today he was especially aggressive during the call. After the call I asked him to wait up for two mins and started telling him that I am getting intimidated by him. Although he was nice to me when I confronted him, now I am feeling embarrassed because I broke down a little when I spoke. Tears started flowing and I am feeling like a weak person. Just fyi I am an adult male.

I ended up breaking down in front of my CEO

It's ok to express your emotions.  Especially in times of stress / duress.  
  
 You'll be fine.  
  
 It's also important to sometimes define boundaries - if that was the intent of your talk with him today.  It's feedback and if he is an understanding leader, he'll give you your space and time.

Here's mine at my previous job. A collegue of mine was fired for smoking weed in the bathroom. He got back to his laptop and he was high as fuck, I am pretty sure he didn't even understand why he was getting fired.

Unfortunately, it was recognition too late because I was already planning to resign, which I did in the next week. 😂🤡

I joined a company after getting some bad performance comments from prev company. In my older the reason behind poor outcome was - manager. During my exit, he confessed the same that he wasn’t able to put required time/efforts. Most probably he was one who threw me in front of the bus.  
  
 Joining a new company with that baggage scares the shit out of anyone. I worked hard and delivered something big in first 6 months. The comment from VP levels was - “This is such a turnaround (of a prev lagging product)”. The mail was cascaded to CXOs and org re-initiated focus on the product.  
  
 That day, I gained my lost confidence and decided not to let anyone else control my career.

I will be completing 3 years in January in my current company. Have not been promoted since joining. Prior to joining my current company I had a work experience of 2.5 years in another company..

I joined the current company for Bangalore location and then last year in may went for an internal transfer to delhi as I am from Delhi. Was not given any hike at that time.

And on top of that, got to know that a fresher who joined the company in May of 2021 was promoted in this cycle.

I reached out to my manager regarding the issue and she said I need to bring visibility in my team. And said don't lose hope.

Feel like shit and want to cry.

Plus I recently became a father so I thought the team would consider that and might give me promotion as that brings a salary hike.

I’m thankful to my manager in my first company for showing me the way and the lead who gave me a chance.

1. 5 small red roses and 3 white roses in the balcony. Waking up to that felt good and makes me smile today.

I joined AmEx Gurgaon in 2015 in PoS Fraud Strategy as a Business Analyst. I was having a rough time at AmEx as I really wanted to pursue my passion of Mathematics in the US. I had secured an admit at Univeristy of Illinois - Urbana Champaign and UT-Austin in their MS programme and was totally checked out at work.

During my tenure at AmEx, I was mostly bored. Looking at internal tools and spreadsheets was the worst. This coupled with the fact that I was travelling to and fro between Noida and Gurgaon meant that I was commuting a solid 4 hours everyday.

In this time of mental agony, I met this charismatic young woman, she was an Analyst in the Credit Underwriting Team. I don't know what got into me and I asked her out to coffee. We went to the Starbucks in CyberHub the next morning and she was the most delightful personality ever. Sweet and elegant, she talked of her passion with vigour, from her ideals to writing poems. I left that conversation feeling uneasy though. 

She reminded me of what I wanted but also of what I was scared to lose in her. 

We continued to date for the next 6 months in a hush-hush manner to avoid any suspicion at AmEx. I had to start the process of getting my F1-visa for the US and when I told her about it she was extremely disheartened.

In my heart, I knew that I wanted to spend the rest of my days with her and life without her was nothing but an empty void. She came with me to the US Consulate Office, and I don't know what got into me but I kissed her.

I knew that I wanted her more than anything else. 

Decided not to give the Visa Interview and applied to ISB with my GRE score. Got into it and ended up becoming a Management Consultant in MBB. 

We got married in 2019 and welcomed our daughter into this world in 2021. 

I wonder what life would've been living in the US. But whatever it would be, it couldn't be better than being in her arms when we come back from work. 

Have faith. Everything will turn out to be okay. Trust the process

Something that happened a few years ago but let me assure you all, one of the craziest stories ever.

I was working out of office that day and I hear two folks chatter. So, I stand up to see beyond my cubicle. 

A Senior and his Junior are talking. Since, I was due for a break, I decided to sit and listen from my cubicle.

The junior is talking about one of her direct reportees. He was a new joiner at the company and had moved cities. Apparently, rather than cooking at home he used to order food every meal. 

This messed up his stomach. So when he was at office one day, he wanted to go to the washroom. But, on his way a very senior VP paused him to congratulate this guy on a client feedback for his first project.

Poor fellow, couldn’t hold it in anymore and dashed to the washroom but he was too late. The entire men’s washroom floor was smeared with watery diarrhoea.  🤢

Apparently, it had already been a couple of weeks since then and very few people knew about this. But by now, some people along with me had overheard this story being narrated.

And OMGG, the office slack channel started going wild with GIFs and memes being dropped like crazy. 🤪😂

And now this memory is imprinted in the minds of everyone at the office, just like that shit stain on the washroom floor. 😶‍🌫️😂

Juicy Tales from the Water Cooler: What is the craziest thing you overheard at work?

The funniest shit happened at the office today. I was at my desk after lunch, vibing to "Like That(Remix)" by Kanye West and writing some test cases for this CI/CD I am setting up for a new feature. 

My friend calls me up and says that there is a BlinkIt parcel that I need to collect from the front desk. I'm like Bro I am busy right now. He says it's an emergency. I am like Okay.

So, I collect it from front desk and now he asks me to bring it to the WC. I am like bro wut?? 
He's like he needs it ASAP. So I oblige lmao.

I come to know that he has ordered Track Pants from BlinkIt because he shit his pants. Apparently, he had some street food yesterday and his stomache got upset. He had an in-person meeting and he wanted to leave for washroom because of his diarrhea. But he couldn't because he was presenting. Unfortunately, by the time that meeting got over he ran towards the WC. Yet, he was too late and ended up ruining his pants. 

This might be the funniest shit I have experienced. My private group on Teams is blowing up lmao.

At 27 (F), I was thriving as a Software Development Engineer at an elite startup, excelling in my work. Within eight months, my hard work paid off with a raise and multiple bonuses. A significant part of my success was due to my manager—more than just a boss, he was my mentor, guide, and sometimes, harshest critic. He was brilliant, fit, and unmarried, with a temper that could be intimidating, but his support was unwavering.

Over time, our relationship deepened. We spent more time together outside of work, and I eventually convinced myself that love was worth more than professional boundaries and I started dating him. As we grew closer, my performance began to slip, but I was too wrapped up in the romance.

One evening, during a quiet walk, he proposed, asking if I wanted to marry him. I said yes without hesitation. But as we returned, he informed me that due to company policy, I would have to resign. Blinded by love, I agreed and submitted my notice the next day, choosing love over my career.

What followed was a nightmare. After I left, he disappeared—no calls, no messages. I was lost and heartbroken, having given up my job for him. Then, the truth surfaced: I had been a low performer, and layoffs were imminent. My manager had exploited my emotions, possibly securing a bonus by manipulating me into leaving. The man I thought I loved had used me for his gain, leaving me devastated and disillusioned.

I loved my manager, but he ended up getting me laid-off!

I am a 2023 graduate, and after receiving a decent job offer, I threw a party for my friends. One of my friends invited his friend who is not my friend, and though I didn't refuse, it later stung me when that person landed a better package. What hurt even more was that he didn't throw a party at all. Now, after a year, I've received a job offer that's a thousand times better than the package he got. I want to post a WhatsApp status flaunting my success only to him, but I'm struggling to come up with a caption that indirectly stings him. Can you help me out?

Got impacted in the layoff at Sharechat today after working 4+years here.
Got the news an hour back and have not shared this with anyone in my family yet.

I am sad and have to share this news with my fiancee and in-laws today. Tell them why I have to cancel vacation plans and look out for a job instead.

I am into an arranged married and my in-laws are very conservative and don't understand tech work culture, I don't know how they will take the news of a layoff.

I'm anticipating they will be shocked, her asshole brother-in-law will even make fun of me.

To make it worse the fault is mine for believing I won't be laid off when my company was not doing well. I thought it would not happen to me and never looked out in advance.

Fuck 2023. What a shit show Christmas.

 My point is - all hiring team members would be out, so nothing will change in hiring spheres.  
  
 But you should face your in-laws and you’ll learn more about them before you tie the knot. Job loss is temporary, getting into a relationship is more longer term.

A lot. 
 Sister suffers severe psychological ssues. 
 Has been known since 4 years. Can't leave her alone. Trying to get her up on her feet has been a challenge since such people are not that socially acceptable. 
 We've had to juggle cities just so that someone is there to tend to her.  
 It drains the life out of your life. 
 Such things definitely affect professional life as you can't give 100% to your work when your mentally stuck at your home.
