 Indian’s usually don’t discuss because if its lesser than your colleagues salary, the motivation to do the task gets low.

At my place my hiring manager asked me not discuss salary with other employees and said that only discuss salary related issues with her only. 
  
 But I would advise you not to since if you have a higher salary you can’t prevent the other person from showing tantrums and if you have a lower pay, dunno how it would affect you.

In India, it's the norm where candidate has to show all his cards (past 3 salary slips or increment letter etc) to prospect employer which sets the benchmark. However, the candidate usually has no idea abt the pay range for the JD, the KRAs, team strength, budget, and the monetary value he is expected to bring to the firm. Most firms also put 90day notice period which makes it difficult to change jobs.

How do you folks try to negotiate pay?

In general HR's say we shouldn't discuss our salaries with our colleagues and at the same time they allow your manager to discuss the salary during appraisal.

A manager should only be allowed to tell %age increase, not the actual salary.

As a manager, would you share your salary with your reportee ? If not, why should you know their salary?

Either make salaries transparent, everyone knows each other's salary or nobody should know anyone's salary except HR.

Is it really the trend now? Am I unaware? I see pay range in 6figr & other websites but don't see the pay scale of 40-50 very often except for full funded startups, MBBs.

I have been applying for jobs, and every time I get a recruiter call, they ask me for my current СТС.
Is it ok to tell them the current CTC at the very first call?
Asking this because, in my current company, the budget was more but they gave me hike based on my previous CTC, because I had disclosed my current CTC before.
Also, how do I tackle the question how much is my expected salary? Is it a good idea to tell them right away? 
Asking this because what if they have bigger budget but still end up paying how much I asked for.

Had the first (exploration) call with my would-be boss and HR lead to figure out which role I would fit in. Company is an MNC startup, best culture ive heard of, lots of friends working there in different verticals etc. I usually dont reveal salary this early on but it was a very quick call and they asked about it and I felt like I had to this time to not come off as a snob or stuck up.

Chances are low and I am okay pushing back but Im paranoid about getting lowballed now. Any advice on how to better my chances in the upcoming rounds? Greatly appreciate any help

It depends on where you are in terms of the compensation spectrum. It can definitely lead to bias if your current salary is not on the higher side. 
  
 For too long, I have played this back and forth game of revealing salary and asking them for budget and frankly, it’s too tiring in Indian recruitment circles. 
  
 So, I have started just being honest from the beginning about my current pay & expectation and have seen recruiters be transparent about their budgets too. 
 Eventually if a company has to lowball they anyway would, but I am glad that I don’t have to exercise so much cognitive effort playing this game of riddles

This should reduce the number of employees who’ll be unhappy if they find someone else’s salary later on to be really high.

Seeing a lots of discussion about people complaining about inflated salary, it's quite sad to see such discussions.
Take SWE for example, so an swe is expected to move to an expensive city with high travel and food expenses, scant housing options with landlords hiking the price 40-80%, work 8 hrs a day and sometimes even 12. And if  he's drawing 20-30LPA he's considered overpaid?! Not to mention the guy has to pay a huge chunk to the government and we're not americans who don't care about their family and have to take care of them as well. 
We're all overworked and underpaid (if you consider the amount of hrs one work and how much they are paidpaid in abroad) and considering the situation still underpaid. 
There may be people who might be drawing a high salary and barely do any work (considering they take a lot of leaves and don't put time and effort in work) but that should be the discussion of the inadequate framework for calculating better metrics for productivity and how companies fail to do their due diligence, instead of complaining about high salary. This affects us all and if we all think that salaries are inflated it only hurts us more.

She also said (not in written) that salaries will be revised in July with 5-10% increment across the organisation (It's a MNC)
