Any country you plan to move outside... Will have its own set of problems.  
  
 - Dubai for example is costly and never provides citizenship.  
 - Norway, sweden kind of countries are having extremely harsh winters and high tax.  
 - US has H1B Visa lottery issue after every 3 years.  
 -  Canada has job issues, less sunlight along with heavy migration of Indians.  
 - Singapore : Very costly. Demanding jobs. 
 - UK/London : Costly and economy in shambles. From last 2 years, so many protests are becoming common.  
 - Saudi Arabia : Less freedom specially for women, Not even a single temple - can't practise Hinduism openly, won't be granted citizenship ever, dependent tax for family members.

Uae pay is good so you still end up saving a lot. And they are renewing easily, you will be ok even without citizenship.

For me: I’m 27, my life’s purpose (or so I think) is to build something that helps a whole lot of people have a better life. And it is to make the people around me - family, friends, strangers happier (the scale of which depends on how successfully I pull this off).

It's a very Indian mindset to treat or look down upon people who make a lot of money. We find some or the other reason to bring them down. We call them names. Though most of our life problems can be solved by money. 

Just like there is an American dream I think the Indian dream is to stay middle class and bitch about people who do the hard work. 

I understand that there are certain classes of people who are truly disadvantaged in terms of caste or patriarchy but for others it's just being lazy and reluctant to change.

Bitching about people who are successful just gives them a sense of achievement without actually putting in the effort.

From the outside, my life right now looks great. I graduated with a great GPA from one of the best universities in DU, completed my banking stint in a top tier group and am now happily working as a Management Consultant in Monitor Deloitte. I'm in a relationship with a girl I'm crazy about, I have good friends, I'm attractive, fit and have the world ahead of me. That's what the outside sees. In reality, I'm a messed up kid feeling my way around in the dark through a world that I feel wholly unprepared for.

I grew up poor. At times, I was very, very hungry. The first few months my family was able to crawl out of poverty, I continued to overeat because I still vividly remembered the hunger pains that often kept me awake at night. I lost one of my siblings and I always blamed myself for what happened. I was sexually abused by a relative. I witnessed things in my city that still send chills down my spine.

And then there were my parents. Sure, my mom loved me and wanted me to be happy, but unfortunately she had no idea what it meant to be a good parent. My dad was an abusive piece of shit that saw me as his competition, not as his son. We still don't speak very often. On an especially bad day, he had once again taken his rage out on my mom, but to rub in the humiliation he had her wipe her own blood off the walls while he stood and watched. I tried to intervene, but I wasn't much of a match.

I, too, was a bit of a piece of shit. I was aggressive and found myself in fights very often. Though I was smart, I was lazy and didn't do all too well in high school, where homework and not exams governed your academic performance. Needless to say, at 16 I looked like I was destined for a mediocre life at best, but probably likely to end up as another case of wasted potential.

I don't know what changed, but one day I started turning things around and ever since I have kept the momentum going. I had the highest grades in my class in 11th and 12th.

I soon got into a college that I did not deserve and met the love of my life there. And from there I busted my ass to get to where I am today.

I earned my own money and paved my own way. I didn't use my past as an excuse to fail. If I didn't make it, I knew it was nobody's fault but my own. I also knew that nobody would care. 

If one day I broke down because of all the stress, the world would keep on turning as it always had.

Nobody cares about the struggles I went through. They care about who I am today and who I'm going to be.

And, I guess, that's my message: take responsibility for who you are, where you are now and where you will be. I don't care that it's a tough economy. 

I don't care that you go to a shitty college. I don't care that an unlucky string of events rendered you less competitive than your peers. And nobody else does either. We will continue living our lives the same way we always had, but you will suffer the curse of your own laziness and incompetence. It's a tough world out there and if you want to compete in an environment as ruthless as India, you need to forget about the excuses and find a way to succeed. 

And if you can't? Well, you weren't cut out for this world anyway. Nobody is going to pamper your bruised ego and give you a job just because you want it. You need to earn it.

I was with you till last paragraph, unnecessarily harsh. Many people face unavoidable circumstances, women especially, doesnt mean one can look down on them.

I’ve seen posts and memes all over social media on the recent titanic sub disaster. I realised anytime someone rich and successful is going through something bad everyone likes to laugh at it or they seem to celebrate it. 

Even when rich people do something for themselves we have the SJWs saying they could’ve end poverty , done this or that but the thing is it’s their money it’s up to them to decide what to do. We’ve got governments to look after the welfare of the people. 

Why hold rich and successful people accountable ? The argument can be made for normal people like you and me as well? 

Why stay in a posh locality in a good house when you could stay somewhere cheap ? Why use an iPhone rather than some ordinary one ? Why have investments when you can invest in on people ? Sounds dumb doesn’t it? So let’s just consider rich people as humans and not heroes or villains with what they do with their wealth.

My current salary is 42LPA. I am from IIT, have 7 years of experience and work in product. Honestly, my value in the market is higher than what I’m being paid but I am very demotivated to optimise for that. When I do see less deserving people minting more money, I feel that I am doing injustice to myself and playing the wrong hand.

More and more though, the thought of earning more money chokes me a bit. I have dreams of building something of my own - that gives me control to build something my way and freedom to live my life as per my terms. But the mindset of “zyada paisa pareshaani hai” doesn’t leave me.

My family also is not dependent on me and whatever is needed from my side, I actively contribute to. I also lack any motivation to focus on my investments and see my money grow. I just have money sitting around in my bank account purely for nothing

I also look at my lifestyle choices from time to time and go into existential debate of why we need the things that we do. This has come to a point where I really do not understand my relationship with money and why we earn and spend it. 

For me at this point, it’s just a show for the world. There’s very little that you need, and really no limit to what you want to show. And I just don’t see a point in it anymore.

 I get the trouble you face. When you’ve almost figured out what you like and what you don’t like (that money isn’t thaaat needle moving, I have basic needs) but at the same time, the opportunity cost of relaxing is too high - everybody from your batch will remind you of how far you can go, and the middle class boy in you will find it difficult to stomach letting go of all the money, even though you can make it  
  
 Went through this at one point. I have ultimately sided with money. I cannot sit back and relax. Money will only unlock a lot of foreign travel and good lifestyle for me. But more than that, I am lucky to be in a position that allows me to earn money easier than other people do. So I’ll make it, help extended family and people who cannot earn as easily, because at least in a country like India, it’s almost a responsibility. We’re not fucking Europe. 
  
 I’ll just not kill myself for it as much as I used to :)

My fiancé’s pay is 3x mine. And I feel guilty for not being able to scale up to a respectable pay or career advancement. This is my capacity - I am slow paced and a late bloomer in everything in my life. I feel like I don’t deserve a fiancé with 3x pay as mine and could find someone better than me as I was questioned by my fiancé about my career trajectory. I keep wondering in what way I can contribute my share once we settle. How will I do 50/50 because it doesn’t seem possible to do that. I will have to cut back on all my wants before things turn sour between us due to this financial imbalance. I don’t want money to get in the way of our relationship. I don’t know if anyone feels this guilty for not being able to contribute financially towards their married life. Or am I overthinking all this in my mind. It takes a hit at my self esteem when I see my friends/family around being able to achieve this financial equilibrium with their spouses. It makes me feel inadequate and not as empowered.

When I got married, my partner’s pay was 2X mine. Cut to 8 years later, my pay is now 2.5X more than my partner. I am lucky to have a partner who never questioned me while my pay was lower than hers. So our relationship has been the same then and now.  
 Your pay cannot be the basis on which you decide if you have to be partners or not. If that is causing a rift between the both of you, you should perhaps have a honest conversation with your partner.

Everything's going to shit recently. I can't help but wonder where are we heading. We celebrate reaching the other side of the moon but can't have the basics right. There's airports collapsing, bridges falling, ministers houses flooding in the capital of the nation, while the people are stuck blaming, infighting and staying divided. 

Our air is unbreathable, roads unusable, water not drinkable, food is no better than poison. Our education system doesn't seem to get better. Hoards of people for government jobs whose papers keep getting leaked. 

The amount of private jobs you could count on your fingers and the applicants are hundreds for a single role. 

I write this rant feeling defeated in my home, where I've been born, lived and seen everyone I love live. 

I fear for myself but more than that my family, my parents for whom I dream of giving the world to. 

At this point, I understand why people leave this country in a heartbeat.
