You don't have to like your manager. You gotta learn to survive and coexist with peers and superiors whom you don't like. Just focus on doing well in your job.

Sorry to say this, but your upper management will most likely favour your manager over you if you would report to them or speak with seniors. Many managers can be annoying in different ways, and in many cases, it could honestly be because they themselves are under a lot of pressure. If your manager is toxic, look for other, better jobs. If it's just typical corporate stress during times of stress, learn to deal with it because you'll face this throughout your career.

I'm feeling really stuck and frustrated at work lately. Despite putting in my best efforts and consistently performing well, it seems like my manager is feeling threatened by my progress. He’s been rejecting my ideas and work without even reviewing them, and calling me out in meetings for not completing non-priority tasks. My story -
So I switched to a startup last year. I was initially super excited in solving problems. Asking questions and just being curious about everything in general.
   Then, some incidents of my manager's behavior and team folks has turned me into a person who is so fucking afraid of now asking questions, doing tasks. My stakeholder communication sometimes I miss on, some things that seem to be pretty obvious had I been my competent self of previous organization, I am missing out on.
   I don't communicate well simply because I don't want to face my current manager and team. There's huge disconnect as well. I am not at all excited to work everyday. 
 
My friend was miserable in my previous org but now after switch he's damn happy and doing good!

I want to know if this is something that happens with you all? Or are you all like you fit in everywhere?
Or is it just My problem and my incompetence? Because I am always reminiscing my past org and my performance there was exceptional!

Has anyone ever faced a situation where you perform excellent in some org but not in another?

For the past few days, my manager isn't involving me in any major work. I send my work, but he doesn't review it and leaves it seen zoned.

He's been giving negative feedback as well. What should I do, I have just graduated this year and am afraid that I might not do well going ahead too. I'm working as an APM.

He even remarked that he wouldn't have hired a candidate, had he solved the problem the way I did.

Could anyone suggest what to do? I'm feeling very tensed.

Manager not satisfied with work

A few colleagues of mine who got promoted in the mid year cycle had ordered a few snacks yesterday. But I didn't go there due to the fact that I wasn't promoted in this cycle.

I know that this attitude of mine is going to hurt me but I don't know how to handle this.

Any suggestions because frankly speaking this feeling is killing me from inside and I can't stop thinking about this even after my office is over.

I am a backend engineer, working in a tech powered fashion company. 

Total experience: 3.5 yrs
Current CTC : 24 lac fixed, 12 lacs ESOP in 4 years

I joined as a software engineer, this April I will complete 2 years in current company, but Manager saying promotion might not be possible due to current situation and less promo slots available. 

I have been quite a good performer last 2 years , building a crucial project from scratch and handling everything alone due to short staffing. There is sole dependency on me for that project and company has ambitious golas with that project this year. Recently got SPOT award from skip manager as well.

Only talked to manager last week , although we had made a promotion action plan few months back for my promotion this cycle and I meticulously followed every points in that plan , manager doesn't seem to be fighting much for my promotion, although he always says in my face that I am his star performer.


I am really upset with this. What should I do ?? 

Talk to skip manager? Consider switching company ? 

Please suggest me. Thanks. 

P.S : work culture and wlb is good here. Also as I have the complete ownership of the project, I learn as well.

I'm a lead engineer at a small-mid Indian Saas company. 
Been at the company for more than 6 years (total yoe 8+) and used to like the company and culture, alway top performer.
Had been managing my team really well, mentoring them.. 
juggling multiple projects, reducing tech debt, improving developer experience.. 
and I enjoyed it.

Now the company is trying to transition my role to more of a technical product manager where I have to think about how to improve the product, new features, take customer feedback, understand business analytics, usage, adoption, iteratively improve and deliver value.

I'm not sure if I'm ready for this role. 
I hate this MBA shizz.

What should I do? Try to like this, work on it and ace it?
or let my management know that this is not what I signed up for..

So I am a fresher who joined this decent company where they pay me a decent salary. I got allotted to a project in place of an Senior Swe.  It's been 2 months and I have been given tickets regarding features requests . The work is not easy at all. The team consists of 5 people where there are only 2 developers me and my manager. He is mostly busy so he just provides me an overview about the code base which is 30 years old . The languages are C, C++ and C#. I have been working on this feature request for the past 3 weeks and the pressure is immense. I am feeling so terrible that I am not able to deliver. I just don't like this feeling. I try and try and try but some things are just way above my expertise. I have always been good at coding but to contribute to a real world project is really tough. It's also quite frustrating as at every step you have to deal with multiple problems. My manager is a good guy overall but today he told me that I really need to amp up my game. And deliver. I just don't like to be mediocre but I am just stuck at this point. Am I overthinking? Or me feeling this way is normal. I just want suggestions from different people of this sub!!

Currently i am facing too many tasks that my manager is assigning to me. because of this i am not able to focus on other life activities like gym, swimming, etc. i log in at 8 and work till 8 , also i get very exhausted after coming from office.!? I’ve been insufferable at work since 2-3 months now. Total time at my company- 6mo 21 days. Profile - Product Management 
My engineering team seems to be taking no ownership and always have their brahmastra ready that it didn’t come from product’s side. QA again is so great that I have to sit and thoroughly test each release end to end. 
My manager- he’s quite interested in taking my career fwd as a project manager. (I am not) He’s a total asshole and is quite concerned with start dates and end dates of tasks ( mind you, I am not the one actually writing the code but somehow the dates are my responsibility). He totally micromanages and somehow keeps blaming me for each small thing.
Examples:
- My engg team isn’t taking ownership: “you aren’t keeping them motivated enough”
- This isn’t a last minute change : “Do you attend standups? You aren’t communicating well”
- The QA tested and approved it, hence we released it. : “But did you test it? “
- Here are the release notes. : “This looks too jazzy, did you copy from GPT”
- Here are the release notes. : “This looks too basic, did you not copy from GPT”

I could go on forever. 

Gust: I am quite unhappy and is causing me unnecessary stress everyday. Also I don’t feel there’s a solution possible

How many escalations have you had , I'm on 2. Working on two projects simultaneously and I'm just behind on both of those , I'm a fresher , I told my manager that I don't have bandwidth but he said that take responsibility and finish it? I don't know what to do anymore ?

How to navigate this situation

My teammate is very annoying😡
Whenever he is stuck with a problem, he just spends a very little time on it, and if he is not able to find a solution he gets me on the call and tries to get it solved through me and I kind of baby spoon him for the solution. This is a repeated practice and I am sick of it.
Sometimes I thought to confront him but then I kind of push myself back thinking how he might feel about it.

Please give me genuine suggestions on what should I do? Should I discuss this with my manager/lead? Or something else

PS: He is elder than me but we are on same designation.

My manager goes into meeting without me a lot of times. Later he comes and explains me what needs to be done. It makes me feel like his assistant. If this continues, how will I make a presence of my own in front of the stakeholders? Ultimately I need good reviews from them and not just from my manager for a good appraisal.
