Join Uber or not?

I interviewed with Uber in Jan 2023, cleared all the rounds but they did not released the offer till march, so I lost hope and moved ahead. Fast forward, they reach out in Feb this year as they are hiring aggressively now. Received the offer letter based on last year interview rounds. Right now I’m working for a MNC as SDE 2(~5 YOE) and I’m not sure weather to join it or not. Uber is offering SE-2 for a fintech team. Other points: 1) cash component is 40% higher than my current org. This excludes the RSUs which Uber provides 2) various additonal perks which Uber provides like free food, wellness , insurance etc 3) WLB is great right now, not sure about it in Uber 4) Frequent Layoffs in Uber Folks working in Uber, how is the wlb and layoffs scenario here. Would you recommend joining?

Maybe if you can make them go for a higher pay as it's only 40% your current salary then maybe you can consider it. Other than that not worth changing the company if you are already satisfied with your current job.

Idk if it is for a Frontend Role or Backend Role, but SE-2 Backend in Uber would have a lot of learning and managing things at scale I feel. Idk how much scale your startup has and how interesting is your work there so am unable to comment.

Be carefull. Uber stock prices are at ATH. Gross booking from rides will soon be flat in a year. If the profit and revenue is flat for this year then a majority of your compensation is lowered as stocks prices remain flat or go down. If you are already in a FAANG Sde-2, then Uber L4 is not attractive, if non FAANG then please consider it. It would be good in your CV.

Uber feeling like a CTC trap and it is ruining my life

Have lately been exploring switching out from Uber to early stage startups. Exploring founding engineer roles / CTO roles with people I know well The worst of it has been just the fact that our salaries are hard to match (even with Cash + ESOP, no matter what you do) Like I know you need to be okay with less cash. But I now feel that it’s such a jump down, I wonder if it makes sense. And then this feeling forever makes me averse to trying out something big, risky, bold. It’s a catch-22 situation lol
