Hi, I have over 3.5 years of experience in IT and working at a service based company. I'm working in Oracle PaaS tech stack and not sure how much scope it has because not every organisation uses it. To switch technologies is difficult within an organization, unless you are lucky to have a project like that. I was thinking to consider MBA in business analytics because of the same. Will that be worth it or can someone suggest an organization which helps switch technologies?

I am trying to transition from a business analyst to data scientist. I was wondering would a post graduation in the same be worth the expense and effort? Or having a significant presence in the community ( like kaggle, analytics vidya etc) is enough?

MS in Computer Science or Data science?

Hi all,

This question is for people who have been in this field (any form of analytics) for a few years.

My background (You can skip to the next section and jump back for reference here):
Role: Data Scientist/Analyst
Tech stack: Python (ML), SQL, Tableau
YOE: 2 years
Work: Started here as a fresher. Being in a service based company, we offer analytics solutions. I have worked to create a clients data pipeline(No code tool), to maintaining it, creating dashboards (Primary task) and ML models (Based on any major change in metrics).
Salary: On the lower spectrum (Definitely!)

Reason for this post:
I would call myself good with tools but lacks industry knowledge and the maturity to actually be in analytics. I do decent, but I have to depend on my manager sometimes to understand the business and provide correct solutions. But I guess that is how it is in case of any fresher starting out?

Question:
Is pursuing a 2 year MBA (Targetting only Tier 1 colleges) a good idea for someone who is already working in analytics for 3 years (by the time I join an MBA program)?
Please share your thoughts.

Context to the question:
I've discussed with someone who did their MBA and works in analytics for a bank now. And according to them, the best way to progress in analytics is to choose a domain and stick to it. And to reset my career, I should do an MBA. This will help me get an understanding of all the domains, improve my soft skills (and time management, etc.) and also give me a good place to start fresh. And they say it will help me in the future as well, as it gives me a very good alumni network.

I'm considering this because of my ability to network has not been that great and also to get the domain knowledge they said I'll be getting. But is it really worth it considering I lose 2 years salary, and salary growth and also have to spend a big amount.

I'm a 28-year-old guy currently employed as a data scientist at a Fortune 500 company, earning a respectable annual salary of 24 lakhs. Lately, I've been contemplating pursuing an MBA, but I haven't initiated my GMAT preparation yet. I'm wondering if it's a wise move to transition my career in this direction. I've heard that individuals with a tech background who graduate from IIM/ISB might need to begin their careers anew, typically with a salary in the range of 27 to 28 lakhs. Hey everyone, So I have done my Bachelors in Engineering and I am thinking of switching to the role of Business Analyst. I was wondering if anyone could help me out wether it’d be a good idea or not also if I make the switch which skills or tools should I work on to make my profile look good or stand out. Other than that I am thinking of doing MBA so I am starting to prep for GMAT too so if you guys could give input on that would appreciate that. Thank you. The reason being for me switching is that my field is not giving me any job openings or opportunities which I can look or commit for a longer period of time.

[Background] 25. M. I'm a mechanical engineer and realized early during college that I'm not cut out for mechanical engineering domain. Switched to analytics domain right after college. 

[Current Experience] 4 YOE in an analytics firm based out of India catering to 2 major Fortune 100 companies. Leading a 10 member analytics team, directly responsible for problem solving, solution design, stake holder management etc. 

[Thoughts] Loved being an IC during early stage of career. Found it interesting to get into the rabbit hole of designing solutions and executing the solutions. 

Off late, really like being a lead and focusing on multiple problems at the same time. Little far for executing the solutions, bu focusing of understanding the porblem and designing solutions and letting the team execute it.

Right now, confused about what I want to do next. 

[Request] Thinking of pursing a MS(DS/ML) or MBA(Analytics) for more exposure. Thoughts or suggestion welcomed.
