Moving abroad is no longer exciting

I have decided to drop my moving abroad plans and stay here to build something meaningful in a couple of years. Thank you for all the comments folks. Have a B1/B2 in place so will visit states this year forso. Until then will build something silently and continue working.

Im having 9yrs of experience as a web developer in Pune and I just went for 1w trip to Dubai. Its Outstanding! Swear by God! Planning to seek out a job there. Will it be the best decision considering I'm having a stable job at Infosys. I want to settle and have a family there and live a life of very high standards. India feels like shit Sharks your advice will mean a lot!

The number of times I've heard people say shit like 'traveling makes you grow as a person'. Someone please specify what this growth looks like because I've never experienced it. I don't think traveling is life-changing. I think most people have a romanticized, cinema-like idea of traveling that has been exaggerated even more because of social media. It definitely is fun to go on a vacation. But in most cases, that's all it is -- a source of entertainment. Maybe an ice-breaker the next time you go to some pretentious party. Am I missing something?

im a 2022 graduate. whenever i open linkedin , only see almost all my school or college or ex-colleagues moving to US or UK for masters, even those who barely got a btech degree with grace marks . not able to understand if it has become so easy to goto US/UK , or ot doesnt matters now as long as you have money... im a middle class person but seeing everyone going aborad, every night i start imagining the expenses needed ro go abroad myself..

People of grapevine, whoever has moved from an Indian startup like swiggy, Zomato, Paytm, any unicorn b2c etc to an international one like the ones of zalando, delivery hero, Spotify in the eu or a good company in the US/uk in product. Is the work and learning better or am I downplaying the good work being done in our country ?

So my sibling is about to graduate with a degree in Computer Science from a T2 college in a few months and wants to now do MS in the US because of three reasons: 1. Low levels of violence against women(Sexual Assault) [IMPORTANT!!] 2. Want to do innovative work in the US instead of working on copycat products in India 3. Ambition of living in the US long term because of free-er culture But my parents have flat out refused to fund the education or even help her with a loan due to regressive mentality (nahi jaana baahar, 2-3 saal kaam karo aur shaadi karo chup chaap) She has accepted a job offer for now and will make 14L/year. What are her options? Should she drop the idea of MS abroad?

How much do you plan to accumulate to retire and at what age? What kind of monthly income will let you retire peacefully?

Question came up because it’s Independence Day 🇮🇳 A lot of us have had the privilege to be able to go abroad, but ended up choosing not to. For me, it was just believing there’s enough growth here in the coming few decades + friends/family Looking to hear if the reduced brain drain is actually true, and what makes people stay.

Notwithstanding a few things that are going well for the country… — High GDP growth rate for a developing country — Low median age a.k.a _potential_ demographic dividend — A stable government To me, it seems like we are on a fast path to devastation. Each of the points mentioned above have a counter point but other than that — Very high income inequality [1] — Absolutely shitty education system. [2] and health system [3] — Increasing oligarchy [Adani in every fucking industry] — Reducing Labour force participation + no jobs (both government and private) = unemployment — People fighting day in - day out on religion, caste, region. On who wears what. Who eats what. Who goes where. Whatever they can find to fight for. There is absolutely ZERO hope for a large part of this country. You either need generational wealth, insane amount of talent or political connections to be moderately successful. It feels just 10 more years of this shit would make this country a massive powder keg waiting to just light up! Does anyone see hope?
