Need help for deciding further path(CSE graduate with 1.5 years of gap due to competative exam)

Hello everyone,I am 2021 CS graduate.I was preparing for GATE exam for my mtech.But I couldn't perform well enough to get good college.I will probably get around 4000 rank this year.(I know this not good rank for general category and I won't get my desired college/course)I have very good conceptual understanding of CSE subjects like DS, algorithms, databases,and operating systems.But I haven't done any programming and any practical implementation of these.(I only have good btech project on my resume)I have decided to take upcoming TCS NQT to get my first job in IT field. So my main questions are :- 1)what should be my further direction from here ? 2)Should I take job or give GATE another attempt (along with job)? 3)Also please suggest how can I land my first job after gap of 1.5 years.?

You already have a good understanding of cse core subjects. Start learning either python/java and one Backend framework (flask/django) then move on to building small projects (eg: rest api for todo app) Build atleast 8-10 small projects to get a good hang of the framework and the language. Then, build 3-4 big projects to showcase in your resume. (Ex: e-commerce backend) The above process should take you roughly about 3-4 months (on average) along with this start practising leetcode/problem solving. While building the above you will come to know about low level design, REST API concepts. Go through them and understand them. After all this, revise os, dbms & networking (basics) You should be good to go for interviews. Continuously revise whatever you have learnt, practice dsa. If possible get internship first work for 4-6 months and then you can make a move to your first job. Stay positive throughout the whole process, there will be ups and downs. Keep calm & focus on learning. All the best!

This is very good suggestion sir. Also it is very good plan of action. I will surely follow this path with 1 additional thing mentioned by @AndyJassy69420 which is CP and hackthons.Also getting internship first seems like sensible thing to do rather than getting job directly.Thank you so much for this advice👍🤞.

do cdac or try cracking startups. No gate. Build some projects. Landing job with that much gap and without experience is going to be difficult. So stay hell lot of positive. Just keep trying, utho apply kro, ye dincharya rakho, use naukri linkedin. U might have chances in startup world as they don't have much problem with ur condition. Just sell ur story. Time is difficult for freshers, so easy way is doing cdac from top college or cracking a startup job. Lets see what other give u advice

To get selected somewhere, you need something to showcase and stand out in the resume first. As everyone here said to start with projects I would also suggest to start with CP or related competitions and hackathons and look out for hiring challenges on the side. Then try getting referrals using these achievements, not to mention you'd already be good at cracking WITCH companies if that's your goal.

I have been GATE student myself. Have friends who took till 2years drop. Nothing is sure shot. Some joined below NIT colleges. As they are bright they got good placement in their college. On the other hand i didn't do mtech joined some service based companies switched to startup. Still my friends who did mtech are ahead of me in my career. Plus i get lectures from my family for not joining mtech. I have been there so knows its a tough call. If you are open to go abroad, do give a shot at it

Yes I have 1 more shot for mtech this year's through PGEE which is happening in May.And even if I decide to give gate another chance ,I will do it with job.Thank you for this perspective.I am just worried about gap years which may affect my career as gap of 2 years after graduation is already long gap .But many people are saying if you are from tier-1 institutions it won't matter.

I am 30 yo with all my working experience in support. Never did any development or coding. Will getting an Mtech from top colleges (iit/iisc) help me get on good career trajectory?

I started working around 2017 never upskilled enough to switch and realised my mistakes very late Would my past experience be an issue if I get into good colleges like IITs/IISc By the time I graduate I would be around 33-34 maybe ? Is it too late to get into GATE. I also can't afford to go to foreign masters degree. I am single so only parents are dependent on me. myquals: BE in CS from tier 3 college in Maharashtra. Any experienced advice is appreciated.

I need help regarding my career as a fresher. How can I turn my life around?

I'm 24 year old unemployed. I graduated in 2021 with BTech IT from tier 3 college. Initially I was preparing for UPSC exam but I gave up after few months and now for a year I have been learning Front End Development and have learnt HTML, CSS, JS & ReactJS but unable to find a job. I made a lot of mistakes in past and didn't learned from them. I'm not good at anything. I apply daily at different platforms ex: wellfound (formerly angellist), hirist, hirect, instahyre, cutshort, individual mass hiring companies off campus but from nowhere I'm getting interview call even if I get call I'm not able to clear interview. Now the thing is my parents gave me ultimatun to get out of the house by April 1st they don't care what type of job I do. I don't understand what can I do now. I'm willing to do hardwork and learn from my mistakes I just need little guidance to get on a track. If anyone can guide me on how to get a job or any advice. I would really appreciate it. Need Help

I have done btech from a tier 2 colg in civil engineering (2015 pass out). There after I worked for 2 yrs and left my job for UPSC preparation. Now after 4 years I am stuck without job. I want to get into IT sector, what should be the roadmap. My strengths: strong hold on mathematics, aptitude, and English. My weakness: never coded before. Shall I go for SDE roles or Data science. Need guidance in IT ( having a year gap) after grad

Hey , I'm Btech CSE graduate from PTU Jalandhar ( completed in sept 2022) after that worked for 5-6 months as data analyst ( non - tech field ) and from there onwards did nothing for a year due to hiring freeze , joinings revoked in TCS Infosys. as I was less skilled in coding n all that time so not eligible for big companies and layoffs happening since then. And , now I know HTML CSS JS REACT SQL C++ Basic DSA, git .OOPS DBMS So, Please guide me how to find a job in these times .(considering a year gap also ). I'm in fear and anxiety.

I'm from the cursed batch , 2024 which is about to end within 2 months , after I'll be at home with no placements in hand , it's all my fault coz I didn't study, I have just 7.02 cgpa and college didn't even shortlist my name , so instead of having a year gap , should I do mtech from local college so that side by side I can grind req skills Like there are 2 sides of this First one , having a gap (let's say 6 months) and trying hard off campus to crack a company. Second one , doing mtech from local college, and in that time period trying to get off campus, why off campus, it is obvious local college= no placement Now gate preparation also req time , and this year gate exam has already been done . So waiting for the next gate exam will be no point . Thanks in advance 🙏
