Negotiation doubt

Just a curious question.

If i have 2 companies with almost the same offer(12 LPA), both are start-ups. Can I negotiate with 1 of them that I have another offer of around 14 LPA. And if yes do they ask for proof before joining or after?

POV: It's my first switch?

They will ask you to send the other offer letter before negotiating. If you can somehow avoid it. Then that's great.

Can we share a fake offer letter (edited to increase CTC) Do they have any ways to verify?

@DenseBrain A couple of ways to negotiate this. I am giving the general direction and you can decide the language and approach. Please note always consider a negotiation a conversation . Be clear about what you are expecting from the company but be willing to have a conversation around it.

  1. Discuss with one of the companies that you are going through rounds at a different company say X. X company is willing to compensate you at 14 +. So you expect them to improve the offer so that you are certain about the decision.

  2. Discussed with manager at current company. He is willing to increase your package at current company. Hence ...

Also, incase they are only willing to increase the base by 1 lakh. Ask them if they can add 1 lakh as joining bonus.
