Things which very few people can ever experience. Like watching the Northern Lights, seeing a polar bear in the wild, etc.

What is the rarest thing you got to experience during your travels?

So I have been looking for remote opportunities so that I can invest more (No rent), focus on health (less travel time more gym time), and travel (planning 2 international trips this year).

For folks working remotely, please share your advice on how I can achieve this and if you guys have any suggestions for any of these topics, I am open for conversation. Thanks.

The number of times I've heard people say shit like 'traveling makes you grow as a person'. Someone please specify what this growth looks like because I've never experienced it.

I don't think traveling is life-changing. I think most people have a romanticized, cinema-like idea of traveling that has been exaggerated even more because of social media. 

It definitely is fun to go on a vacation. But in most cases, that's all it is -- a source of entertainment. Maybe an ice-breaker the next time you go to some pretentious party. 

Am I missing something?

It depends how & where u travel.  
  
 I will put a quick example - Someone close to me always assumed ki roads usually breakdown in monsoons because it is normal in india. Once they traveled abroad and to a tropical island where rains are very common. After seeing the roads there, first comment was - “Roads don’t break always due to rains”. So, this was a life long learning for that human, broke the mirage of road quality and execution in India.  
  
 Similarly, once I went to a 3-days long trek with a friend to inner jungles of SEAsia. We had to carry drinking water with us & took bath in flowing river. If you have seen “Iss jungle se mujhe bachao” (desi version of fear factor) was shot there. This friend of mine after landing back made a statement “yaar jisne bhi shower invent kiya hai, it’s a big gift”. Takeaway from this travel was - He was able to appreciate the simplest thing which we take for granted.  
  
 Many people learn new things about culture, practices of a new place. My personal surprise was when I traveled to Bali and saw similarities between theirs n ours practices. Helped me to go back n read about various things of empires.  
  
 Multiple such stories, so yeah, it depends!

What is the most unique/ weirdest/offbeat country/island have you visited?

For me, haven't travelled much abroad but i did visit an island called JAVA in Indonesia which is 5-6 hours away from Bali and i trekked an active volcanic lake Kawa Ijen which is the most acidic volcanic lake in the world.

Would love to hear more if anyone has visited to any similar place..

Been to 18 countries so far and the best hack is to always use packing cubes. It sounds so silly and obvious, but recently found out that most of my friends had no idea about this (we all grew up in a metro city). So would like to know if there’s other travel hacks you’ve discovered.

Exchanging currency 
I have option of using forex cards but not sure how much charges would apply and which card to use. Should I take cash from here and if yes where can I get it exchanged and how much charger would be applicable. If cash is more preferable then how much cash should I be taking.

How to think about this?
Imagine going to travel somewhere and you can't upload a photo or status anywhere. What will you choose? Foreign or India and why?

Context : I have always been an Indian traveller enthusiast. I really have no interest in going to foreign countries to travel. For me, it looks just like a status symbol and nothing more where you just keep on posting status and come back.
And I totally understand everyone has their own perspective but one thing which I don't understand is why the people who are travelling to foreign countries feel so cool about themselves. One of my friend (same CTC) travels a lot to foreign countries and he keeps telling me that I must be jealous of his lifestyle which I am not at all. I will definitely be jealous of a person who will be visiting unknown Indian travel spots but not of him.

Me and my wife are 30 years old software engineer with no kids. Draw 7 lac a month please some yearly bonus. We invest 2 lac a month combined into equity market through mutual funds. 

Expenses: 1.5 lac a month including everything, lives in Bangalore in good society, owns a car, don't thing much before spending. 

Still after everything left with 3 lakhs every month in bank account. Not sure how to use that. We both don't have any fancy "shauk" where we can spend and hence don't have an urge to earn more. 

Any suggestions???

Hey - we are also similar to you. Would strongly suggest finding something you’re passionate about. 
  
 For us (primarily me) - got a dog, took a 6 month sabbatical, travelled to 30+ countries in this time, left job to pursue startup idea, spend time with parents, learn language, improve fitness, learnt some coding, etc 
  
 It’s a pretty good position to be in - just explore I’d say

Hey guys I’ve never travelled solo in my entire life. Where and How should I start?

There are few questions I’ve like:
1. How to handle accommodations?
2. Concern about the safety and security.
3. How to decide which places to visit. I mean can’t roam around uselessly, must have a list of places to visit.
4. Whom to believe, in the sense that, a lot of people are ready scam you when they find you are new here, how to handle that.

If you travel solo very often, then suggest some pointers to keep in mind.

What's your favorite travel memory that still makes you smile?

Reddit hasn't been helpful, so here goes nothing. I, a 24 yo single child with over protective parents who jas never let me go on trips until last year, have decided to go on a community trip. it is via one of those Instagram pages who take a bus full of people to remote treks, have all the rooms+food+expenses covered in one fee. they will be going to tirthan valley and its a 3days trip.

i have mixed emotions. i am feeling excited, adventurous, a bit raunchy and a whole lot of scared and conscious. The crime patrol and delhi crimes have ruined a lot of dreams for me, and have made my parents downright paranoid. i have recently been feeling like a kid who gets everything from someone else and don't know how to survive on my own, so want to close my eyes a bit, trust the world and take this adventurous trip

Well that's the post. I have been to trips with my parents and friends, so i will probably figure out what to take or not take. I don't wanna ask you, the audience to share some advice or be my damsel in distress but this step is scary, exciting and full of unknowns so just shared my thoughts. I will appreciate your thoughts on this too
