I recently joined TCS and have been assigned to a client that requires late working hours, often extending until 10 or 11 PM. One of the main reasons I joined TCS was to achieve a better work-life balance, especially after working long hours for the past eight years.

As I have a client interview scheduled for next week, I would appreciate any suggestions or strategies on how to address this situation. 
Should I directly say no?

Currently working in a startup company 

Usually, I do my work in the given time, but due to some dependencies on me and after meetings on around 6-7PM some tasks are allocated to me that should be picked on the next day but due to "bhai plz Kar de" culture it is picked on the same which is not sometimes favorable and will cost around ending my day around 11 or 12 

Should this be embraced and how to tackle these things?

I am not comfortable with late night work but my team is mostly related to delivery boys so i am required to do night deployments and late night work which leaves me with brain headache in the morning and scattered sleep.

The client I have been working for is a US based tech conglomerate and they are happy with my work. I make sure I deliver all the requirements on time without compromising on the quality, document my work very well, be available for any support and troubleshooting. Though the work is hectic, I am happy that I am able to grow and learn new things. I work on the weekends, holidays without any comp off and I also sometimes work late in the night at 2 AM etc. I admit that I am burnt out but since I am recognised and appreciated for my work, it motivates me to continue the grind. I make sure that the quality f my work isn't questioned as the standard the client has is pretty high.

Due to this, I am unable to upskill, work on my own profile and prepare for interviews. I am a graduate from a tier 1 institute for the field I work in and all my peers are earning 36+ LPA. I know that I need to upskill, switch jobs as that is the only way out. I take more time than necessary to complete tasks and hence I have to work beyond the designated hours. Now for me to take up time for upskilling, the only way out is to deliver the bare minimum that can help me to continue to be allocated while I upskill myself to make a switch. I have wasted years of my life by being in TCS and it's high time for me to make a switch. I am underconfident in terms of my skills and all i have to do is to work on my own skills. 

Is delivering mediocre quality of work the only way out? I don't want to do this as my work is my identity but I see no way out in order to make time. Please help me out.

Context: I work at a startup, it's a pretty chill work environment, very flexible, hybrid model. Everything is great.

Problem: They take flexible work hours too seriously, I have meetings at 10 PM on weekdays and almost every weekend there's some work which they need the next day in most cases but apparently have to keep the meeting on the weekend with no prior notice.

I mean, i like going to office twice a week around 11-12 and coming back around 7, wfh when I have a few meetings that day but is it normal to work on weekends? and after work hours?

P.S. I've only been in this company for a month and joined as a fresher.

Now that I've put it down, this is such a gen z problem lol

But what should I do?

My previous company laid me off and they have mentioned it in the relieving letter as well. I have got another offer from TCS, but they have reduced my expected CTC to almost half of what I was getting previously after I have shared by relieving letter with them. The reason that they quoted was you were laid off so we don’t want to hire such candidates. I am barely getting any other interview calls as well. Apart from that all my savings have exhausted and TCS is asking me to join the next week. Should I join TCS and leave them after few months once I find a better job? Because they are paying me much less here, and I have liabilities as well.. I couldn’t sustain in this less salary. And all my savings are almost over due to my own illness in the last few months. Will the previous company know that I have left TCS in just few months? In case if I don’t mention TCS in my resume and show all those months as year gap?

This is to bring into notice that we have been asked to work on Diwali day and following weekend just bcoz the client has planned sone data migration to production. Is it fair by company management to ask their resources to work on such festivals. People earn to celebrate such moments with family. Why can't they push a bit n do this the next weekend. We have been working long hours n weekends for the project already. But asking us to even work on Diwali is just too much. EY SERIOUSLY NEEDS A BETTER WORK CULTURE!!!

I have this person who has been nominated as POC from New Zealand. I have been trying and chasing the person to schedule calls, and till now I have rescheduled 4 times because he is now showing up on the time slots HE communicated. Even though I adjusted my work schedules according to his time slots, given I start my work as per USA timing.
That's highly unprofessional. It goes like-
Me: Hey! Let me know what time suits you?
Him: my calendar is free from so and so. Please schedule 😃
On the day of call

Him: Hey can you reschedule to * absurd timings which don't suit IST* 
Or
Him: I'm unable to join, my calendar is blocked 

I'm so frustrated. I have messaged him ( in corporate speak) that I have already rescheduled so many times based on your schedule ( which you communicated) I would appreciate it if you show up. I am already working beyond my standard working hours for you.

How do you define work life balance boundaries at work? Everyone in my team works 10-12 hrs daily, it’s business as usual for them. I joined recently and it’s very problematic for me, I literally get no time to do anything else. 
I fear, that if I highlight this I’ll be singled out. 
Some people even feel very proud in doing so which I don’t understand. Don’t they want to go back home to their family and spend time with them?
Please provide guidance on how to set these boundaries and am I thinking right?

At my previous job, I had excellent work-life balance, with work hours aligned with Japan's schedule, allowing me to finish by 3 PM. Now, I'm working in US hours, which is encroaching on my personal time and impacting my mental well-being. Should I reconsider returning to my previous employer? Money isn't a significant factor (I received a 100% salary increase). The atmosphere at my former job was also much more relaxed.

I am getting calls from recruiters starting last week and most of them are asking whether they can schedule an interview the next day?
I am currently in a super hectic different tech stack project.  I need 2-3 days or a week to be ready na?

How do I convince the recruiters to have it after a few days not the next day or day after?

My manager called me in the meeting and said that from now onwards all 7 days are working because we are behind tasks.
( These tasks are irrelevant to me as these are not related to any customer development, he just wants to see how the data adds up )
Honestly I think it was the diwali week where people took things lightly and not that we are behind deadlines.
He asked me to be available 24x7 this Friday to Sunday but I had already planned the weekend off with family and pre intimated this 10 days in advance.
Now I'm getting calls that 'x' task was not done and 'y' customer is complaining etc. ( which is not the case )
On this break, I've finally made up my mind to quit.
The mental pressure is not worth it.
WHAT is a good way to put it across to the leadership??

I interviewed for data engineer at Amazon in feb. I was told that my profile has been put on hold because so meone else has been chosen internally. Now recruiter comes up with BI engineer role. Got selected. I didn't say anything because I just wanted to get out of TCS at all costs. Now she's demanding that I must join them on 22 april, which is less than 2 weeks away. Are they trying to back me off? Because the request is unreasonable. They haven't yet released offer letter, salary negotiations haven't taken place. Should I ask for offer letter first? Or ask for early release with TCS? What should my plan of action. Need advice.

I am thinking of leaving my current job and focus on myself, getting to know myself better etc. Currently I have enough money saved for my expenses for next 6-8 months. 
   Everyone I have asked about this say don't leave your job if you don't have another lined up, in this tech winter. I understand their view point. It aligns with what my parents think as well.

Is there anyone who has had done this in the past? Do you recommend this route? Are the consequences far too severe? Does anyone have a different opinion from one stated above?
