Should I be going for mba and can I get into the ABCs
I am planning to give the CAT this year (Nov 2024) but i want to be realistic on whether it can be achieved or not. I am 24 10th - 10 cgpa 12th - 88.2 science Ug Btech - 72 IIT D Obc Work ex of four years in the software industry.
my main intention is to shift out from software industry and get into the business/strategy/IB roles, but I would only be inclined to make it to ABC, if thats possible

You can make it to ABC with the OBC category. Also, you might get decent shortlists for summers as well coz of IIT D tag. The only caveat I see is matching your current TC. In case you are able to crack into MBB, the growth path can definitely beat it. I have seen people becoming Principal at MBB (TC 1.3-1.4Cr) in 6 yrs
These roles shortlist based on cgpa. Yours is not that great. They need a 9/9/9 profile. Btw how much do.u make in current role? I doubt mba will make much sense for u
But it will help me get out of the software industry surely and explore other horizons, I do have a base of 40 and I doubt the package is gonna match that and thats my major concern at the moment too.
There's a low chance to be able to find a matching or better offer right after your MBA. But if it's your genuine interest towards the domains that you mentioned, then probably worth taking a hit on salary. It's not like you'll be paid in peanuts
Aarakshann.
You might get through dude. Go ahead.
With your background ISB maybe a better fit.
You can write GMAT anytime Opportunity cost of IIM's 2 year program is too high for software engineers. Even with ISB's higher fees, it will end up costing you lesser.
IIM's generally have folks with much lower work experience, you may not find the right fit. Companies coming there also don't look for experienced candidates in general.
OBC itself won’t help much. You might need an NCL on top of it. I have a friend who lost her parent so is able to get NCL, otherwise I don’t think OBC itself helps so much.
If your aim is to get into business then sure, MBA might be for you. But you can also explore engineering management track and assume a leadership role in the software industry if you are getting a bit tired of Individual contribution.
Comes down to personal trailblazing capabilities. You have a prestigious IIT degree, don’t follow the herd and the flavor of the season.
Not sure how you have 4 years of work experience at age 24, but very cool profile man.
You can give CAT irrespective and see the results. Based on that court your future chart of action
