My advice is simple. Spite. Hate the situation so much that you come out of that, or conquer it with pure spite. The Hatred of ever being found in such a situation will propel you towards success.

Just met a dear friend with 10+ yoe and earning 33L per anam. 

He doesn't want to get promoted or salary hike as he is getting enough as per need and wants to have good WLB. He is accumulating a 3cr corpus and planning to retire in 10 years in his hometown in Ranchi.

Debt free - family house in Ranchi and married with no kids - single income. 

Isn't the amount very small/too risky? Considering anything can go wrong in future and you should work really hard in 30s to avoid that as much as you can.

What's your opinion?

Picture this: a typical review meeting, and out of the blue, the manager decides to dub Rohan as the star of the show with a casual "Rohan, tu chutiya hai." However, in a sudden plot twist, our manager does a 180 to save him from the wraith of HR, proclaiming, "tu akela chutiya nahi hai, ham sab chutiya hai jo ye sab kaam karte hai!"

Our work is divided into our team of more than 10 members. The nature of work is absolutely identical and only the quantum of work varies everyday between us. 
Once we complete our work, we are expected to complete and help others and even sit late for completing other's work. Due to this situation, it became a belief that if you complete your work early, you will be bombarded with even more work. Hence, some members decided to be mischievous about this and started to work at a slower pace. However, members who were loyal and completed their work efficiently were bombarded with extra work, let alone, be appreciated for their efficiency. 
Of course, I was one of them. This has led me to quiet quit and give everything to a job, which doesn't even value the work I do.

I joined Synkrama Technologies Private Limited  with enthusiasm, inspired by a positive and supportive environment. Initially, the atmosphere seemed promising, and I was motivated to contribute to the team. However, as time went on, I faced numerous challenges that profoundly impacted my professional and personal well-being.

Early in my tenure, I was appointed as a Team Lead on several projects. This role, though a significant opportunity, came with immense pressure from our CEO, KJ. The expectation was to meet deadlines at any cost, which led to continuous mental stress. Under his directives, I inadvertently became a source of pressure for my colleagues , AN , and AB and other major colleagues . This created a strained and uncomfortable working environment for all of us as i used to put pressure on them on the influence of Karan Jain 

The situation worsened as I found myself working through weekends and even during leaves, resulting in severe mental exhaustion. Despite these efforts, new developers were hired, and I was sidelined. This period was particularly tough, leading to depression and sleepless nights. After enduring this for several months, I decided to resign from my position.

Unexpectedly, KJ contacted me, urging me to withdraw my resignation. He assured me that the previous issues would be resolved and praised my contributions. Reluctantly, I decided to stay, hoping for a positive change.

However, the company's environment continued to pose challenges. We were subjected to screen monitoring via Team Logger, where management frequently questioned my idle time. Despite my high productivity and efficiency, I was often scrutinized for taking breaks or assisting colleagues, which is essential for maintaining a collaborative workspace.

Most recently, a significant and distressing event occurred, further affirming my decision to share my experience publicly. it’s crucial to address and bring awareness to the toxic practices that can affect employees’ mental health and overall well-being.

I hope my story encourages organizations to foster genuinely supportive environments and prioritize the mental health of their employees.

Despite dedicating years to their craft, many professionals find themselves stuck in a rut, with no significant salary hikes or promotions in sight. The once-promised ladder of success seems elusive, raising questions about job stability and fueling fears of sudden layoffs. This toxic cocktail of factors is taking a toll not just on careers but on health as well. After all these real struggles, then come the layoff's and questions: Why did you leave your last job? 

Stop office politics and unnecessary pressures; learn leadership skills first before you manage someone. This post is written in light of the recent incident where a fellow quit his job with "Dhol and Dance" to start his own venture into fitness training. I am not supporting the act or trivializing his pain. I am just trying to make the point that office pressure is real and unbreable. Be human first.

How many of you actually only work 9-5? Do you get paid for overtime? Is Indian corporate culture disconnected from the 40-hour workweek belief?

Is 9-5 a myth in India?

Total disconnect... most of us do not work 40Hrs a week -every week.. sometimes its 60hrs some times its 20.. but the main requirement is we need to pretend to be busy. That's what's defines a hard worker in our country. 
productivity and efficiency gayi baad mein.... if you  finish your current work, you  need to find the next. or you can continue the current work for as long as possible.

I work with Swiggy and as many of you already know the culture has become extremely toxic in Swiggy. Expectations of working 12-16 hours per day, be available on weekends, play dirty politics, blame other to save yourself , get really really aggressive, all of this with a constant fear of losing your job. The leaders are saying this culture change is required to achieve high growth targets for IPO.  They say a culture like this is required to raise the bar & keep people on their toes. But looking at Byjus it appears that this may help in the short run but eventually things fall apart. Employees are human resources not machines. But these toxic leaders don’t really care, as there is always some people available to replace the previous lot who left due to the toxicity. I really hope the leadership of companies like Swiggy open their eyes & realise this before it’s too late for their business. 

And people who are considering to join Swiggy. BEWARE. This isn’t the place it used to be. People have left within 1-2 months because of this culture. And nearly EVERYONE is looking out to switch.

Why is everyone under so much workload and pressure in corporates or only I am feeling the same

Hey guys, i'm looking for a job switch from my stressful job, the work that is given to me is very complicated and it stresses me out. I have survived for 9 months in my current role but my mental health is not good hence I wish to leave ASAP.

I can't ask him to not give me complicated work as it won't look good, I think i was unlucky and landed in the wrong place.

I want to tell my manager that i'm job hunting due to my mental health

I think if I do this then he'll get off my back and stop pressing me to deliver quickly as he knows i'll be leaving. But with the current IT market and how the global economy has gone to shit, i'm not sure how long my job hunting will take. If it takes longer than 2 months then he'll think what this guy is still doing here.

How would you guys handle it if you were in my shoes. Asking for a team change wont work as most teams are crap, they'll have to change my department, which I don't think they'll do.

Advice, should i tell my manager about job hunting

I am working as SDE 1 in a good Indian startup. It's getting toxic day by day. Late night workings like 3AM and working on weekends is normalised like anything. Since I am new to IT ( no sort of politics never) and have almost 2.5 Years of experience, I am facing issues in getting credits. Last appraisal cycle in January, I was nominated for promotion but wasn't given to me, reason: you have not worked with architect and he was making decisions. In that case, architect should have been distributed tasks to us. 

one SDE3 is leading one of the projects ( not a big one ) and manager/architect is not much interested and never join any standup or retro, I have contributed immensely to that. Now since it is completely driven by sde 3 , he takes updates from us and show his work infront of seniors and director + announces like his work and seldom we get thank you in threads. Like if you did one function or wrote complete flow, for both thank you. Because of all these reasons, my work is not getting recognised. There is no one in team to help in this. 

Whenever a manager or Architect show cases some features or release, it's pretty evident that his team has done it but when a sde 3 does it, it is not the same. It conveys the message all or 90% work is done by him. 

I would like to take some suggestions from my seniors and fellow mates here.

I can't leave or switch right now due to some critical persona reasons.

1. High pressure on timelines- business and top management shits on you if you don’t deliver on time
2. No power to control the outcome- engineers don’t listen to you neither does the design or analytics team, you end up begging for resources
3. Too much politics- business or a senior PM can steal your bandwidth anytime
4. Lack of recognition- if it succeeds business did it, if it fails it is product teams fault (engg never gets blamed for shit)

I believe Product Management is a really toxic role

I've had the fortune of having worked in 3 countries so far. India is by far the most exciting place to be in 2024.
But there's something about our work ethic that just concerns me. In both white and blue collar.

In most other countries, I've observed people strictly sticking to the 9 to 5, working diligently in those hours - not wasting too much time on chai sutta breaks, instagram browsing, gupshup etc.

They work for 8 hours, then leave. And think about work directly the next day.

In India, most of us spend more hours - but very obviously very few of those hours are productive. In fact, I lately feel that too many people around me are doing even 2-3 hours of work on a good day.

We end up just staying around, passing time, and then go back home. When we could have achieved so much more.

Work ethic has fallen. Work hours have gone up.

We need to be more mindful of our actions, we need to work well at work, and then do well at home.

I think it's a function of being over populated. There are 1.5-2 people doing what 1 person should be doing, hence this effect.

Needs to be fixed, it's the sign of a major problem in the workforce. Thoughts?

Disguised unemployment in India - It's all around us :/

We don't end up staying long hours because we need to. But because we have to, so that the manager doesn't feel like we leave the office by "half day".  
  Also, they have a leverage that they can shut their laptops at 5 and nobody will reach out to them. But here in India, managers do reach out for escalations, or make us attend lat evening calls because it's afternoon in Europe or morning in NA. The people sitting in Europe or NA are not made to wake up early or attend night calls to accommodate us during our actual 9-5.  
  People also chit chat etc. bcz they know for sure that they have to sit for long hours..so they need to take small breaks in the day. No one has the capacity to work 10-11 hrs without any breaks.  
  Here it would never be possible to have such a strict 9-5.
