Do extreme toxicity & inhuman working hours actually deliver growth?

I work with Swiggy and as many of you already know the culture has become extremely toxic in Swiggy. Expectations of working 12-16 hours per day, be available on weekends, play dirty politics, blame other to save yourself , get really really aggressive, all of this with a constant fear of losing your job. The leaders are saying this culture change is required to achieve high growth targets for IPO. They say a culture like this is required to raise the bar & keep people on their toes. But looking at Byjus it appears that this may help in the short run but eventually things fall apart. Employees are human resources not machines. But these toxic leaders don’t really care, as there is always some people available to replace the previous lot who left due to the toxicity. I really hope the leadership of companies like Swiggy open their eyes & realise this before it’s too late for their business.

And people who are considering to join Swiggy. BEWARE. This isn’t the place it used to be. People have left within 1-2 months because of this culture. And nearly EVERYONE is looking out to switch.

Absolutely. Every big company today was once a toxic workplace. People worked ultra long hours, under shitty bosses. Got cheated on Pay, on benefits. etc.

Unless you are a small scale famliy owned, family run lala company with very few employees, the life always sucks untill you reach a good size.

"lot of work" is the prequel to "toxic culture".

I can only imagine the layoffs at swiggy coming pre IPO because of redundancies

Redundant? Why still hiring then?

FuzzyCoconut

It's not redundancy they're replacing sde with interns, sde 2/3 with associate sde. Making the environment toxic so people leave on their own. No severance nothing. This is pure sweatshop technique to suck the blood of existing employees

Unsubscribed swiggy ONE...

Ask sriharsha majesty to read karmayoga of bhagwadgeeta.

Byjus is an example.

Zomato valuation is enough for swiggy 11B ipo.

Then why the 🦆 uck they are exploiting genuine n loyal employees.

Do 8h work and sleep.

Only work 8h+ if u hold 8digit swiggy esops being vested within 2y.

Peace out.

They can fire employee before you vesting is complete. Citing performance issues.

Ask swiggy folks this happened to lot of them.

Such dark pattern lies behind the pretty UI of app. Guess there are still some talent folks left just waiting for IPO. Otherwise the way u describe, I would have already left

@FunnyBones yeah, it won’t be far that the company will stop attracting talent if this culture continues. Such a sad state of affairs :(

They will always continue to, your whole notion of ppl not applying is wrong, we have unemployment problem in India, there can always be someone smarter then you getting lowly paid, he will jump and grab if swiggy pays him 40 and he was getting 20

Here’s why extreme toxicity and inhuman working condition affects service providers in a company:

Why the hell they have to open the share link in a browser if someone is clicking on the same from the app, just deeplink it to the post with a capability to land back where the user left from. What a shitty UX grapevine has

A lot has been going around with swiggy it seems but I want to state something,

The founders/board work for the investors they are there to make money for them and make some along the way, yes compared to normal employees they make a lot. Now coming to the real problem, you will always come across broadly these companies

  1. Great company, great pay, great work life balance, great work to work on as well, very few opportunities once in while shot

  2. Great company, great pay, great work life balance, but the kind of work you do is shit and meaningless, a friend of mine working in google has been building extensions for chrome, once in a while some gets released others is shelved

There are too manu permutations and combinations, its you who should take that call when shit hits the fan and leave, find a better place. If you have skills and talent you will find something don’t be hell bent on not taking a pay cut and continue with toxicity and then crib about it here

When asked for a job referral in product team of swiggy, one of my friend told me on my face that swiggy's standard is so high that they dont hire small people like you. I was shocked like anything. He says swiggy has potential to be next google.

Extreme work hours and thing like micro management will make company go down. As people are aware and have little commitments will definitely leave the company no matter what.
