That's a good point. Being the only bread winner in the family, the flexibility of earning less or starting again Is something holding me a bit back.

I have been working in support for the last 6 years and have had a decent growth in my professional career so far. However whenever I think about the future, I get a little scared.

Even when I check on Grapevine, all I see is Software Developers and Engineers making real good money, even the ones that have only 2-3 YOE. I barely see anyone here from the support sharing how great they are doing.

I am currently earning 20LPA and I am not sure how far I can get in support vertically and hence have been thinking about learning coding and moving horizontally to Coding to ensure a better future I guess.

Is it worth it?

P.S - I have done BSC, so I have like the nare minimum knowledge and some basics of it.

I am working in SAP as full stack developer from past 15 years and getting only 35 lakhs ctc. Whereas here in grapevine i can see salaries ranging till 2 crore or so for software engineers. How can that be? I am interested in programming and want to know for which tech stack salaries are best. Means , generally popular programming languages like java programmers also earn more? Or is it just me who is not able to earn more?please help me with good tech stack

Graduated in 2021 have 2 yoe working in a b2b unicorn as sde-1, earning 20lpa fixed no esops. I made one switch last year. But now I realised I was learning more in my previous product company. Here most of the work is boring like writing repeated sql queries minor bug fixes and very little coding. 

Is 20lpa low as per industry standards for 2 yoe in bengaluru ?

I'm relatively early in my career, and has been working as a Program Manager (it doesn't mean that I have anyone reporting to me). I love what I do. The pay is also decent. 

I also like software engineering (app development mainly). I used to code regularly and has got some apps on the Play Store as well (hobby projects, not big). 

I'm confused whether I should continue as a Program Manager (going down the managerial route) or switch to a Software Engineering role. I feel like I should get some software engineering experience before being in a role working closely with Software Engineers. But, another thought is why move away from something that I love doing. 

I'm a bit scared on taking a decision (grass would always be greener on the other side). I don't know anyone like me in the same route.

Note: I work at a fortune 50 organisation, awesome team/manager, and all of them are completely supportive of whatever decision I make. 

My manager is happy to help me grow in any direction (both at the same time as well), but spending energy on one would yield better results.

Note: I would definitely love to be a good manager down the lane (always liked working with people).

Having worked as a PM for a the last 3 months, it’s not something that excites me and I don’t feel like I’m actually building something. The pay is pretty decent (14 base, 4L ESOPs) but money is not an important thing for me right now. 

I seriously want to switch careers to software engineering where I get the feeling of actually building (+the feeling of being an engineer). I want to quit my job and go all in to code for 6 months and see how it goes (as mentioned, money is not an issue as my parents can take care of me for a while + they’re pretty supportive). 

Can you please give your two cents on this topic? I’m pretty confused but I want to be an engineer.

Switch to an SDE from a PM

Hi Grapeviners,
I would like to hear some suggestions on what should I do next.
I am an non-IT engineering graduate, got into an MNC (witch) for 3.5LPA, was onboarded for a support role after clearing all mandatory  trainings and tests, where majority of my work revolves around filling Excel sheets and scheduling support calls.
After a lots of struggle I was relieved from that project(after 1year 5 months). After that I joined a python automation script development team

My current python team is going very well, i get to dirty my hands with code in python.
It's been 6months in python team. Over all 2years spend in same company, when I try to switch for other company, I feel like I'm no where close to their requirements, my only skill is python application automation using respective modules, with months of experience.

Most of the roles I see are having different different combinations of tools and technologies. 

I also know medium level DSA.

Please suggest what should I do so that I can switch companies.

What should I do after being in support role?

It will be helpful to me whoever see this post and comments your respected opinions on my situation.

I am ome of the regular corporate employees of India who is earning 3.6LPA in reputed MNC working on Java support. As I need assistance on my career and don't know where to ask, posting here . So below are the options I wanted to do but I am confused where and what to start.
1) Should I upskill more on Java only 
2) Should I need to switch to any other domain like AWS, Azure, cybersecurity 
3) Should I need to do any other integrated course which will be available in platforms like Upgrad.

Why these options means, I need to earn a decent salary par with Industry. 
These are the random options in my mind and I am unable to choose one thing. Due to this I am stuck in my career and my friends are earning more than me.

Career dilemma

Currently have 10years of experience and am at cross roads of next steps in career. Need help from senior folks here to know pros and cons on either directions I have a chance to move up the ladder

Want to know career opportunities say next 10-20 years and pay as well. 

As for me, love hands on tech but scared how long can I sustain the mojo. 

People management wise not bad but need to learn many steps in there to become great.

Engineering Manager route v/s Staff/ Principal Software Engineer

I have been working for 2 years at an Indian telecom company. I am mainly writing code in C for real time sensitive devices. So my experience is low level coding in C and debugging.

Will I be able to get more jobs based on this experience and domain? So should I switch my domain? If yes, then any domain suggestions?

My current fixed pay is 14LPA, AND THAT'S ALL I AM GETTING NOW.
