Thanks GV community for talking some sense into me

Last week I had put a post on GV about getting selected at a company but not receiving offer. I’m happy to update that I have received the offer and accepted it. Without a job in hand and now I am fucking scared that no one will hire me. Fuck this shit.

Looking for genuine and non diplomatic answers since it will be anonymous. It is upto you to reveal the name of the company you resigned from. Lets discuss!!! I will go first - I quit my last organisation (a famous UPI company) in 2020 because, they still are in old technology. No cloud computing, no kubernates, no terraform. Their entire baremetal infra are in 2 DCs (Mumbai and Bangalore). Leadership ideas are outdated. I was very much bored and looking for a change.

I was laid off on 7th Sep and my garden leave was till 29th Sep. I got average severance package and I was in panic situation for almost 2 weeks. I gave interviews for 12 targeted position (luckily got till last rounds for all positions and got total 5 offers. 2 offers felt like being exploited, employers were milking my layoff situation and offered 10%-15%. I took a call to reject them and explore further. Got 3 offers in first week of Jan, these were worth considering. Yes I did wait for 4 months to see such favourable offers. One with 15% hile and relocation, second with 60k Euro and move to Europe and third offer with 100% hike with remote. It was a no brainer and I closed on the one with Remote and 100% hike. Dont just rush to close on anything which comes first, assess the future and close on the decent or best one according to ur needs. For those who were laid-off recently and looking for opportunities I would say keep faith market is opening and positions are getting listed. You will get something good soon.

Currently I'm working in a FinTech startup. Here my compensation is 'x' fixed. I've around 9 months of full time experience and 6 months of internship experience here. I needed to switch from my current company as the work is not good and they are cost cutting so everyone is also switching. I got offer from eka.care for x+2 and I was sure shot to join them. I asked a little bit more compensation but they said 20% on curent is industry standards.I visited the office and met manager and future teammates.. They were very good and I liked the team, company and the manager, but I was also disappointed that I'm getting just 2 lac of increase. But still I was in full mood to join as I really wanted to learn the quality work. So because of this I resigned from my current company. After some days in between of my notice period and there is still 15 days to join eka, I closed another offer from a popular FinTech 'smallcase' at x+7 lpa. Based on the interview and people I talked I think smallcase is pretty great place and I accepted the offer. I'm feeling guilty that I've ditched a company. I think whatever I've done I made a great choice. This will help me in future and also ensure my financial stability. WDYT?

I completed education from tier 1 colleges (MBA and Engineering both from coveted IIM and IIT). After MBA, I joined Wall Street bank and life was really good. Was enjoying the perks of a MNC although the work was also excruciating but was an overall good experience. Left it for a startup (fast growth kida in me led this decision). Worked in the startup across multiple roles, learned a lot of new things. Tried staying away from office politics and earned a good name in the circle. But growth (read pay) was not that enticing and was not growing hence decided to leave. Was naive enough to quote this reason to business head and HR as well. Obviously it didn't go well with anyone. Joined startup2, changed cities and joined it. The role was similar, although my manager was an epitome of a toxic manager. Was doing good but he always was able to find some or the other mistake in my work. If he would not find any mistake then he would suggest some tangential hypothesis and then reprimand me for not thinking about it. Was so toxic that I didn't take leave when my wife was hospitalized and giving birth to our child. Tried doing everything possible but couldn't save the job and got laid off in the 1st lay off wave. Was shattered. Confidence was at rock bottom. Tried searching for roles. Luckily I got into startup3 who had remote work at that time. Although I joined the marketing team (which was not at all related to my previous work) thus creating a mess of my profile. Worked hard but in a "restructuring" exercise got laid off again. Within a year 2 lay offs with random work and no concrete direction in work. Now searching for roles but not able to find anything suitable as I was in non-core roles and in this difficult time everyone is looking for cheap resources with 1-3 yoe and not looking for 7+ yoe with generalist profile. Contemplating starting from zero in Marketing or learning coding/Data science so that can start my career again with right basics.

I'm typing this out as a way of collecting my thoughts and feeling a bit normal to take myself through the day. Context: I have been working with a small b2b IT firm for the last 1.5 years, and resigned yesterday. This was my first job straight out of MBA and it has sucked the soul out of me to say the least. The notice period is 3 months and I am really unsure how will I survive it considering that I'm already completely drained. I do not want to list out the reasons of how this place has been toxic for me because I also carry a lot of self doubt if it was really the toxicity of the place or my own incapability to handle the work. I do not have any offer in hand, and haven't started a job search either. Just wanted to put this out there to see if people here in the community have been in a similar situation in their professional lives and how did they figure out the uncertainty, was it a good decision for them in retrospect and if they have any tips for me to deal with this better, with less anxiety.
