The TechBro life speaks to me 💊👨‍💻🏃🚬

There has been a huge influx of posts dissing roles like Product, Marketing, HR etc. by Techies. Every other post, or comment is made by them undermining the value of other depts and these cuties think business runs just by their sub-par code. I understand that their delusion stems from the fact they get paid huge salaries by loss making companies. Which is bound to crash sooner or later. Rant over.

Context: I am a software engineer with 4 years of experience. Everytime I work with a bunch of engineers (Especially Indian Startups). Most of them are workaholics. They are just working for some company full-time. They are interested in learning more about technology, making jokes about technology, following technology news, etc. That is it. No social life. (Especially after Covid). No skills in any other part of life. Their comfort zone is so small that they have developed a lifestyle of working, sleeping & watching something on laptops and that's it. They make an excellent salary but don't do anything else. Every time I meet a 35-40-year-old software engineer, it is just a physically unfit guy with an arranged marriage who is boring as a brick.

I have many friends who are into IT and Tech(read again Tech not IT). Whenever I am speaking to the IT folks and understand their aspirations I always find that they have this strange thing mentioned every now and then i.e. Going to the Clients location(all overseas) for a couple of months and coming back or extending for a longer duration say a few years and purchasing a house/flat back in India. I don't understand how going to the client's location(even if it's on Mars) and earning $$$ can be life's ultimate goal. What am I missing here? I am not able to understand since I have always believed that life's ultimate goal would be always bigger for people(achievable/non achievable are different things). Does working in IT make people so myopic that they are destined to think in the straight line process and wait for that token(at least what I have heard is that it's some weird selection they do to select and send you abroad on the projects). May be this thought process makes most of the crowd stick to the systems for years and decades at work. Is it considered that bigger of an achievement OR Is it a way to make people stick around for longer duration ? What am I missing here ? How can life goals be so small ?

I’ll go first. To me, it’s all about access. Access to authentic ideas. The best search result you get on Google is high SEO but low authenticity. On LinkedIn, there are so many people but everyone is shilling a course or 1:1 resume reviews. Mostly it has become a place which started as vanity signalling Like ( I have started a new role…, I have been accepted at …, I have received offers from F, A, N and G and I’m joining G.) And now people pushing mindless content with “Agree?” or “Comment Interested”. Somehow, everyone is truly inauthentic to please a wider audience and say the exact same generic gyaan to maximise engagement. For now, Grapevine is where people are genuinely themselves and I get to hear interesting things that you get to hear near the coffee machine. Kinda feels like we’re all a big community where we all contribute and learn new things about the professional landscape around us. Godspeed Grapevine. 🚀

Ask any tech bro to work on Saturday and they will start crying about work life balance. FYI most professionals in India work on Saturdays. In India more than 90% folks are self employed. Lawyers, accountants, doctors, plumbers, carpenters, business owners all of them work on Saturdays. Your work life balance comes because you enjoy their services on Saturday and Sunday going around spending money and having fun. So not working on Saturday is a privilege and not a compulsion. On one side we are sad that companies lay us off and on the other side we want work life balance even at the cost of the growth. We despise anyone who creates wealth. Chal kya raha hai? Sabko startups mein bhi MNREGA scheme chahiye kya? Have some growth mindset folks. With so much work life balance you are just stuck in Manali traffic jam and Krishnagiri toll booth. I am an EE Final year undergrad from a Tier 2 College. I have worked with production apps and am still working with a startup (mostly PPOed). I never did DSA/CP and got hooked to dev only. Now having worked for over 20 months I get sad when I see people who did 2 months DSA getting 30LPA and Where I am not rejected from the shortlisting itself (Oncampus). Recently saw a guy with no experience, literally getting a 60LPA job with a 33L base. And now I doubt my life choices, why did my efforts of managing college and work at once end up in such a disgusting manner. My PPO won't be even half of his CTC. And a guy with just 5-6 months DSA cracks a 60LPA job. Life is tough but shouldn't be up to this extent. How should I tackle this crisis?

Why are some tech bros so arrogant in terms of hiring advice. Always seeing on Twitter seeing alpha macho software engineers saying if you can't do leetcode the world is going to eat you up and you're not gonna make it. Are these people psycho? Why do they think that if you don't follow their recommended path you're doomed forever. This shit is making me depressed.
