My overall education started a bit late than normal people due to my fathers transfers and school admission rules. Consequently when I applied for JEE Advanced back in 2017 i was 19.5 years old.  I got it but wasnt satisfied so dropped a year and got a better rank. I was 20.5 years old when I finally joined IIT. 
Somewhere subconciously throughout my college life i felt that I did achieve what I wanted to but really late. I know theres nothing I could do about it but this was something still killing me inside. Most of my batchmates where 18 year olds and even the ones who dropped where at most 19. 

I always wanted to pursue my masters and phd but somewhere at the back of my mind I feel I would have to go theough the same feelings again. It just kills me so much inside. 

Currently I have completed 2 years as a software engineer and I am 26 years old. 
On one part my mind tells me that I am made for much more than just an IT job and should go to academia. On the other hand it feels like I am too old for it. 

I dont know what to do. I am not able to rationalize my thoughts. I am not able to understand how can I bring myself to overcome my fears and achieve what i really want in life.

Life shows its ups and downs to pretty much everyone. And when you are younger, living with adverse situations that impact your mental peace and health, paving your way becomes difficult. All this can lead to uncertainty about future, can make you doubt yourself and your decisions, or can make you think whether you would be able to make something of yourself or not.


If you ever felt like this, how did you handle it? What would you tell your younger self about how to navigate through these situations and feelings?

( RANT ) 
Currently in my 2nd year of engineering in a good college in Bangalore . I am worrying a lot about career , my day starts with thinking about interships, skills, studies and ends with which career to pursue , startups / big MNC . All my day I am worrying. I know this should not be the case but I can't help , nobody around me are thinking about future, I can't discuss with anyone, they just chill and enjoy. 
Has they are from CS / EC , there placements are secured which is not the case with me. 
I know I should be focused on CGPA and skills ,but these thoughts scare me a lot , I don't know where should I focus on , which direction I should start working, no guidance, nothing.
like this only 2022 passed. I have plans to pursue MBA .

Recently did a calculation for my NW and I am happy and proud to see my NW crossing 2CR+. I have 0 debt and do not own a house. Here is how my portfolio look like

My current CTC is 1.3CR . 50% is cash, 50% is stocks.

Here is my CTC progression over the years

1st - 12L
2nd - 12L (Switched Companies)
3rd - 15L 
4th - 24L (Switched companies)
5th - 42L (Switched Companies)
6th - 48L
7th - 66L
8th - 72L
9th - 1.3Cr (Switched Companies)

As you can see I almost everytimg doubled my compensation when I switched my companies. But there are reasons to stay at a company as well. If you are learning and are able to handle different problems at scale, stay. When you feel stuck, leave and look for better opportunities. I have never switched job to get more money. I love CS. I have been coding since 15 years. What made me switch was either bad managers, uninteresting problems not visibility of learning and growth.

You can't learn everything from your own experience, you need to learn some hard life lessons from others experiences too!

I'm completing my studies. Working towards becoming an software engineer.
I suffer from 'overestimating what I can achieve in a couple of years and underestimating what I can do in decades'. 
I'm not sure if this is common but I pick up something, geek out about it for a few months. Come up with crazy plans. When the tough work comes my way, I slow down to a standstill. For example, right now I'm learning mobile and web development and I'll have these crazy ideas about building my own service in a couple of years. Yes, it's possible and people have done that but I don't think that has ever worked for me.

So if you are familiar with my toxic trait, I'd appreciate a few words of wisdom :)

If you had to offer one advise for me.

I was laid off last year, the CTC was reasonably high there (110k USD base, not practical in India ik... Maybe that's why they had to cut us off). That of course was quite a down time but I was happy that I had a lot of side projects in hand, and was up to date with the tech stack. It's something I learned, "A company is a company, nothing less or more than that.

Curious to know, what are your lessons from these times? That one thing you wish you told/reminded yourself before these lay offs?

To me, it would be:

1. Stay humble. Your salary or your company shouldn't define your attitude.
2. Keep learning. Find time for your personal growth.
3. Stay active in the community, be aware of what's happening. Be it good or bad, it can come to you as well.
4. Save while you can! Savings have helped me a lot.

P.S: I mentioned my base pay from prev salary not to boast about it, there is nothing to boast about tbh
... It's just to mention more context.
