On a recent episode of Nikhil Kamath, he says “Bangalore is famous for nice and welcoming people”. This is so very true to a large extent. Every city however has some outliers who tarnish the image by going extreme. 

I have seen a lot of posts on GrapeVine complaining about Bangalore and their people. People should understand that every native resident of a city carries a profound sense of connection and endeavours to uphold the cultural heritage of their hometown. And what better way to preserve heritage than to safeguard language ?  This is the reason I believe most non Hindi speaking cities try to impose their language on outsiders. 

All said and done, I feel language should never be imposed but at the same time it shouldn’t be ridiculed either. I’ve seen a lot of “Kannada” hate post and is disheartening to see it.

And lastly I appologize to all those who have had negative experiences due to a few troublemakers. 

TL;DR : Bangalore is a lovely city with warm and welcoming people.

I think these welcoming people are outsiders themselves. Actual natives hates outsiders and as per recent events they are trying to send back people, specially north Indians.

There used to be a lot of local good structured apps a couple years back for learning Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Urdu, Gujarati etc with English/Hindi base language. I am unable to find the exact ones now on the play store. Do you guys know any good apps (Indian version of Duolingo) for our languages?

There is a reason why u r asked to get out of city. And locals don't usually say that to Telugus or Tamils or Marathis. It's predominantly aimed at a section from somewhere and a major reason is people from that somewhere are generally crap(sorry for stereotyping).

1. Be grateful for the local land, culture and set up. 
Problems exist everywhere, solve it if you can, remember that you were not born in a palace.

2. Learn the local culture, actualize it, propagate it. Massive influx of immigrants wipes out the existing culture. Onus is on you to not only protect it but spread it as well. If you don't then yes, u should get the fck out.

3. India is a mix of cultures. Just how Hindi is important a language so is kannada. Telugu or Tamil or everyone. Did you even know Kannada has won 8 Jnanapith awards(highest literary honour) vs Hindi's 11 despite the miniscule population of kannada infront of Hindi?
Do you even know how rich kannada literature is? Do you really believe it deserves death in its own crown jewel(Bangalore?). Who do you think you are if you think this city should speak the language of people u come from but don't put an effort to speak the city's language.

Live and let live. Yes that's a 2 way street. Onus has always been on you. After more thab decade of handing you guys an olive branch, now the city has realised our open gesture is taken for granted. Well, make no mistake we will teach you the right way. Onus is still on you!

Yesterday, booked an auto (Namma Yatri) from Koramangala to Marathalli. Auto driver maybe in his Mid 30’s a Telugite settled in Bangalore.

I was trying to give instructions in Mix of English/Hindi/Telugu on where I am and he understood I am a Telugu speaking guy he switched to Telugu. Once I boarded the auto, he started a casual conversation in Telugu asking me about my whereabouts, what I do and from how long I have been in Bangalore. For which, I replied it’s nearly a year. Then he was quick to respond “Samvastaram avthundi vachi Kannada nerchukoled” (It’s been year and You haven’t learnt Kannada). I said, you are right I should have learnt Kannada and I will learn (at least learn basic words we use in our day to day life).

Then we moved from discussing Kannada to Andhra politics why Chandrababu Naidu was arrested, Pawan Kalyan and who will win the elections, he was praising late Rajashekar reddy and criticising his son Jagan .

While we were discussing, I opened my phone and started watching IndvsPak match on my phone and he observed this and started talking about how mobiles are impacting lives for good and bad. He told me about his college and school days, how the new years were celebrated, gifting the greeting card with the favourite actors/actress photos on them, how the gang used to go for a movie, celebrate by cutting cake at midnight. As I write this, I am remembering all those birthday parties, those cake and thumps up near year celebrations in my school days. Now , this has changed to sending a happy new year sticker on WhatsApp.

Came the destination I got off the auto and picked up my phone, saw a status about my friends birthday. I opened WhatsApp to text him wishes, instead I called him and we spoke for half an hour.

I don’t get the narrative of most south states to force their language on others. I mean people from different states in the north speak different native language i.e Punjabi, Haryanvi etc but still they can do the conversation in Hindi. 

Most of the people from Bangalore always come with the phrase “Go back to your state”. Someone please tell them that we are living in their state as we don’t have much choice. 

Also, almost 70% of their employment comes from people like us.

IT companies should expand their operations in cities like Gurgaon, Hyderabad and Noida.

What do you guys think about this unwelcoming nature of some local bangalore people?
