My 2 cents to future Richie Rich parents:

Kids are growing up in a fast paced and curiosity driven environment. the dopamine hit is crazy on kids these days. I would not simply blame social media for all of these uncultured activities which are taken up by kids these days. But the generation is growing up that way. We have to help out our next generation to take up a sport or an artform to learn discipline. Which leads them in the right way shows them life is not easy .

What are some of your interesting takes on your GenZ co-workers?

They talk about restuarants alot. I think 60% of their conversation is around which restaurant or pub is "cute" or "vibes".  
 But that might be a Bangalore thing. 
 Also they watch alot of Indian OTT and nothing else. 
 Saare chutiya indian shows dekh liye but Oppenheimer nhe dekhi abhi tak, which is shameful.

DINKs, (dual income no kids) have been gaining traction a lot lately. I want to know from the members of gravevine, what are their views on being a DINK couple or a DINKWAD( double income no kids with a dog). From financial prospects like having a huge disposable income to emotional aspects like not having a legacy or going against custom Indian tradition. Do share your thoughts 🤔💭

What are your thoughts about being DINKS?

We are a DINK couple (live-in, will get married soon) and absolutely no plans to have kids. Maybe be a DINKWAD someday by adopting an indie. Also no plans to buy a home or spend on our marriage. This is not a financial decision (both of us are doing decently well in our careers) but we don't want to have a child knowing how nothing around is improving and we don't want to sacrifice the best years of our lives by doing this. We are building a large corpus to be financially independent and travel without any financial restrictions.

Going to be a manager for the first time

- Just be receptive to their thoughts, understand their povs. 
  
 - Help them understand their role and your expectations from them clearly. 
  
 - Direct manager plays a huge role in someone’s POV about the organisation, set some biweekly or monthly one on ones to understand/tackle problems they are facing. use the same meeting to communicate your expectations from them. 
  
 - One thing that is often neglected is, making sure your team members have a visibility outside your team as well. Promote a culture where in your manager also knows about your subordinates and what they are good at.  
  
 - Provide them your support towards their career goals. 
  
 - Finding a good balance between becoming too strict (getting work done) vs too supportive ( some lemons take advantage of this). 
  
 If you end up doing half of the above they will remember you throughout their career. I was fortunate enough to have two manager in my career like that. Both of them I still reach out for career guidance.

Parents spend their entire life, money and resources for children. When they become old many children leave them for money , career or even wife's. How will these people feel when their children desert them in their old age as karma will come back.

How children selfishly can leave old parents for money or career?

Background:

As per the common knowledge around Sanatana dharma, life is divided into 4 Asharams:
1) Brahmacharya (0 to 25) - Learn
2) Grihasthasharam (25 to 50) - Earn and get married
3) Vanaprastha (50 to 75) - Retirement, getting ready for the last leg of life
4) Sanyas (75 to XX) - adjusting to the new reality of life, which is the oncoming death.

Perspective/Interpretation:
I feel that the generation which is in retirement today (our parents) were most accustomed to the 2nd asharam. They got married early, faced big responsibilities early on. Accordingly, their biggest problem is adjusting to Vanaprastha.

Our generation, I feel, started out with the overwhelming sense of living. Hence, we were ready for Vanaprastha, the minute we started working. Just to complete all the burdens of earning and maintaining a marriage, and rest.

The generation subsequent to us, seeing our exhaustion might be more inclined to extend their Brahmacharya period, where they retain their child-like curiosity, excitement, pleasure - and actively choose to not get bogged down by life's responsibilities, which seem to them, made up.

The most preferred Asharam keeps moving in cycles from one generation to another, with every generation layering in the prejudices and shortcomings of the previous generation with their own solutions.

I hate entitled genz.. Most frauds, brought up on soyboy YouTube channels . 

Boomers hated the millenials.. Millenials were too much talk and true most of it is. 

So why the fuck should millenials bend over backwards for genz. 
If they die, they die.

do you ever feel that your peers/friends/colleagues are a couple of generations ahead of you ?

it might be in terms of the way they live their life, spend money, their ambitions, the way their family is living, their interaction with their family members or people around them.

like you feel you yourself won't be able to experience all that in your life but your kids might have that kind of life.

It could be because of that city tier gap also, you came from a different city/village and you never got to experience all that tier-1 city life, where you see kids living in these cities. 

this is why I feel I'm earning for my next generation, not for myself.

Saw a similar post somewhere from an European and I think it’s pretty valid for India.

For context, I am in my early 30s, a home owner, living in tier-2 city with a pretty high salary. Recently got married and my wife also works as an Enterprise AE for a listed US company. Our cost of living is pretty low given the house and tier-2 city. Even if we had a kid, the overall cost of living will not change a lot. 

I got to where I am, economically, by a combination of hard work and luck. Luck definitely was a huge part of it. Knowing the right people at the right time, working on the right technologies helped a lot more in advancing my career a lot more than grinding for good grades. Even the ability to buy a house without much debt, was partly because I was lucky to sell my shares in a fairly small startup. 

It would be easy to say things aren’t economically bad based on my own experience or that of my close friends. However, when I look at things more objectively, I can’t help but come to the conclusion that we are screwed as a generation. Except for maybe the top 1%, salaries are not keeping up even with inflation. Housing costs, specially in tier 1/2 cities are unbelievably high even if you want an average apartment. Jobs are no where to be seen. The whole generation is living in the hope of the stock market rally never ending. This seems completely unsustainable as a nation. I might be doing well for now, but I still recognise how these are real problems for most Indians, who’ve been waiting for India’s century for 20 years

Given that the services industry contributes more than 50% to the GDP, the current state of joblessness, the overall sluggishness in IT and related sectors, and the fundamental changes happening to the way IT services now work, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a complete recession in the next 4-5 years.  

Lately, there has been a lot of criticism of anyone expressing anger on how bad things are but I think it’s helpful to talk about this.

Is it possible for those doing well to still acknowledge how our generation is screwed economically?

Great post, I was thinking to jot down something similar.     
 The way I see is that our generation(I'm Gen Z), is financially fucked due to 2 main behavioral changes:     
 1. Increase in consOOmerism: We're zoomer consoomer. GenZ is known for show off culture. We will buy the latest and greatest phones on EMI every 2 years. People spend thousands on sneakers, bags, branded clothes.     
 2. No Savings: People are no longer saving money. My then girlfriend used to got mad at me in market when I tried to bargain. Its considered a turn off lmao. People find bargaining bad now... like I'm looting a poor guy. People don't realise how much our parents sacrificed and bargained everyday to save money.
