In our death beds it's not the bank balance that would give us joy but the core memories that we made makes us feel we lived a great life. At the end that's important 
  
 If you are compensating for your choice of not having kids through other core memories like traveling or other experiences then go for it. Optimising not having kids only for saving money is a dangerous thing. As I get older I realise that joy comes from giving and not from accumulation.

Hi everyone 
I saw a lot of pretty problems in my surroundings related to old age parents. Let me explain the problem in brief using an example, suppose there is a family having only one boy child, when turned 22 he got a job in a different city ( not in the city where his parents live) , so he has to leave the city where he was born. Now his parents are left in his old house and his salary is not enough so that he can carry his parents along with him. Now his parents have no support at his old house and also his parents are so old that they can't handle all the work so they need a person who can care for them. So here our startup comes into picture. Basically we provide the one caretaker of old parents in that case. Currently in India there are more than 3 million NRI who need that type of services and in India, a lot of families traveled in another city and they need that type of services. 
In future this business will definitely grow because nowadays a large number of people don't live in joint families. 
Note:- i am not supporting that old age parents should be left by the child, but there may be some difficulties.

Dual Income and No Kids sounds very attractive but advice from people in their late 20s and 30s is probably too biased to be considered sound advice.

Wanted to understand how couples who took that decision in their 30s feel today.

Do you regret it?
Do you feel purposeless?
Do you feel lonely?
Do you feel the FOMO?

Any DINK couples in their 40s? How do you really feel?

I am a 37 year old female and my husband is 40. We were unable to have kids through normal ways and chose to not go for continued IVf after the first one didn’t work. We found IVF to be too draining emotionally, physically and also financially to a certain extent (although that was not a major extent) . We were also ready to take that decision to be a DINK because we felt that we loved each other and found our life fulfilling with each other, family and work. Having a child would have been great but I personally agonised over this decision for many years in my early 30s because we have been told that if you don’t have kids ‘you will regret it later when it’s too late 😅😅’ happy to report years later that we don’t regret not having kids at all - and we don’t think we will feel differently many years later too.

There are always women who have great family support or husbands that are understanding and encouraging. But generally why does it seem like becoming a senior woman in tech even at the best places is sort of unattractive and significantly increases your odds of “failure” outside of work e.g. divorce,having kids late?

I have a startup idea to start a community service. The idea is to help people who don't want to marry under their parents or societal pressure. The service will provide counseling to parents, normalize singlehood, mediator between the customer and everyone involved. The service can be extended to almost anything aligning with this. 
The idea is that not many people can provide good arguments in their favour or just don't want to put their views. We will have the best and brightest people to provide support with expertise on psychology, societal behavior, debate etc. The idea could be totally ridiculous but I want to know the community's thoughts on this. Go on. Roast me if you feel like.

My mother has mobility issues and suffers frequent falls am due to slipping down and this is the 4th fracture in last 5 years. These fractures require long healing period and requires surgery mostly. I am living in a tier 2 city with my wife and son due to this reason. But she suffered a fall and fracture recently and I am kind of fed up. Not living in a tier 1 city makes me odd one out. No chance of networking and I want growth in my career and want to lead a team etc. but guess this  choice of staying with parents makes me feel lost from the crowd can’t connect with my peers. I have an MBA from reputed insti but not able to meet my classmates also. Don’t know how else to vent out my frustration so just pouring out here

I want to know from the members of gravevine, what are their views on being a DINK couple or a DINKWAD( double income no kids with a dog). From financial prospects like having a huge disposable income to emotional aspects like not having a legacy or going against custom Indian tradition. Do share your thoughts 🤔💭

What are your thoughts about being DINKS?

We are a DINK couple (live-in, will get married soon) and absolutely no plans to have kids. Maybe be a DINKWAD someday by adopting an indie. Also no plans to buy a home or spend on our marriage. This is not a financial decision (both of us are doing decently well in our careers) but we don't want to have a child knowing how nothing around is improving and we don't want to sacrifice the best years of our lives by doing this. We are building a large corpus to be financially independent and travel without any financial restrictions.

My parents are in their 70s now, and I'm constantly worried about their health and well-being. They live in another state, and I feel guilty for not being there more often. 

How do you balance caring for aging parents with your own life and responsibilities? Any advice for long-distance caregiving? This whole situation is giving me major anxiety.

I grew up with a stay at home mom but I have plenty of friends who grew up with “power couple” parents. If anything, the kids with working moms were better prepared for school and were more... polished? And I know plenty of fuck ups whose retarded moms stayed at home and/or whose parents ended up in nasty ass divorces with their “helpless” moms cleaning out their dads.

I don’t think there is anything wrong with nannies and having help. You grow to love them in a different way and they give you another perspective as you grow. It’s not like kids with nannies automatically assume that their parents don’t love them, and it’s rare for both parents to be completely absent all the time unless they never wanted kids in the first place. I feel like the argument against nannies and career women is usually made from bitter people who can’t afford them

I won’t settle for someone who doesn’t have a career. Not a job, a career. Maybe she’ll make the decision to stay at home for a few years but I don’t want to bankroll the seamless and reality show watching habits of an intellectually lazy partner for the rest of my life. I’ve seen firsthand the type of woman who doesn’t want to be challenged, what happens to the men who marry them, and how their kids turn out. Fuck that noise. This isn’t the 1980s

And if you think you can maintain your lifestyle in Bangalore/Mumbai once you have kids on a single income, think again, especially when your friends have paired off with those dreaded career girls.

Power Couples?

Times are different now. Kids raised in Delhi/Mumbai don’t give a shit if you didn’t make it to their events, they give a shit if you don’t buy them the new iPhone every year or make them take the Metro/Local instead of ordering an Uber for them like their friends’ “power couple” parents.

Trust me, I’ve seen it firsthand with my useless excuse for a sister. Wasted my parents’ money on a shitty expensive degree she didn’t use before making them pay again for a shitty masters degree she didn’t use. They paid her rent and vacation bills through her 20s because she made shit in her “career” (lol) until she tricked my Brother in Law into marrying her. 

They had to move to the Greater Noida because she is both unemployable and has no desire to work, only post photos of her unruly spawn on Instagram. He has to wake up at 5am everyday to commute into the city and doesn’t get home until late. 

I’m sure she whines or cries or bitches when he does, because that is the kind of bitchy she is. He makes decent money too, so I’m sure he daydreams about what life would’ve been like if he wasn’t living in hell. Fuuuuck that kind of life, I’d rather die alone
