I haven’t yet found a profound statement to describe everything that happens commercially across the globe. 

Share your examples how incentives are misaligned with outcomes that you would expect so we can think deeper. 

Let me start off - 

1. Relationship managers advising you to buy financial products that have high commission vs what’s appropriate for you.

2. Insurance agent / broker selling you policies with high commission with poor returns or missold benefits.

3. Doctors advising you to get a surgery when it may not be really needed.

4. Pharma companies potentially not finding cures when they keep you hooked lifelong on their drugs? 💀

These are some things I have wondered about. What about other examples?

My dad's friend helps people invest money into Mutual Funds, Bonds, insurance, etc. He says that he is incentivized by the company whose assets he sells. And, from us (customers), he doesn't charge any commission. So, it's a bonus for us that we get guidance from him at without any additional cost. 
Is this true and a standard practice? Because there are many digital investment platforms these days - Zerodha, Groww, INDMoney etc etc.

Why are there so many VP at Black Rock  on LinkedIn with comparatively lesser YOE than it usually requires to be VP. Almost every one is 28-32 y.o. and there are 20-30 atleast in the NCR.  Very less from IIMs,IITs so we can't discount that.
Anyone have any idea? Other than fake profile?
Any1 working there have any clue please could you comment on hierarchy or workflow .thanks.

I remember reading about this. The explanation was that people or HNI prefer talking to people in higher positions. So these investment banks just give fancy titles to make it seem like the investors are talking to someone high up.

Hi folks,

I have freelanced on upwork earlier and maximum reached $20/hour in development gigs but got burned out by constant pressure of rebidding once the current project gets over. The profile is still 5 star rated but getting full time job through these freelancing platform require lots of marketing and bidding and it’s difficult with day job. However recently I have seem trend where there are some genuine folks such as harkirat who are upping the game by earning around 5 crore annually through posh remote jobs. Has anyone of you tried pursuing that route by reaching out to founders of early stage startups on twitter/linked in or used freelancing portals such as upwork to get full time gigs which pays more than $100k remotely. If yes please share some guidance.

I have avoided SBI always in the past. Even few days back, someone here on GV bashed SBI when he had to wait 3hr for account opening. But the prospect of being defrauded and shortchanged for loans, with random charges added and preclosure being a pain, I am dreading to interact with Private banks and NBFC's.

I haven't had the experience of servicing home loans/personal loans with HDFCs or other banks yet. But I was planning on getting a personal loan this month and HDFC is offering very competitive rate of 11%.

Do you guys have any reviews on their service whenever you have needed something adhoc?

In March 2023, a man received a call from someone claiming to be a recruitment executive for a global carmaker's India unit. 

They convinced him he was shortlisted for a senior position but asked for a fee of Rs 1,600 to register. 

The scammers kept asking for more money over five months, including Rs 28,000 for a uniform, Rs 80,000 for a check-up, and Rs 2.4 lakh as a salary advance. .

However, after paying around Rs 24 lakh in around 40 transactions, the man realized that he had been cheated

How and why people fall for these? Also how they make over 40 transactions? 

Also a lot more people have fallen for scams than I initially thought. It's only when you tell them a story about other scams they tell their story.
