What does a Product Designer actually do?

In early startups specially in b2b, product designers are not designers they're rather design support. Always restricted to reach till minimum viable ux. Though whatever gets shipped at the end is better from past but power of shaping product is largely placed at PM's table and engeneering table (feasibility). Now you can avoid complaing and show high agency, partner with PM in defining Product but the default power house is still PM, not the designer. Also you don't have time for this because designs need to shipped to add to next sprint. At the end you just take a deep breath and sigh because you made something better, bit better if not far from what existed before. I guess high impact/ product definition work gets done by designer in big orgs only not only early age startups.

Yo. Is anyone's company looking for Product Designers? (With decent pay?) I'm looking for a change. There are so many fake openings on LinkedIn. Naukri got NO Naukri. Other platforms are dead. I got almost 2 years of experience. I did internships at great companies. Got a formal degree. Have been a pseudo PM as well. I can think of UX before the UI. What do they do exactly? Many of them are earning well. I'm referring to those who work in big MNCs or large startups. I can see many companies with little to no ui changes over the years. And there are some companies which don't require a ui designer to work everyday as their products are deployed and there are less changes over the years. This made me question what the hell they are doing. Some even start with 50+lpa with no experience, in tech companies. I would also like to mention that some of these companies which hire designers for big bucks don't even have a good ui. Are companies giving away money for them to do nothing? These are based on some people I know who work in this industry.

When asked at the end of the interview, what questions do you generally ask the interviewers? There can be two types of interviewers, one from the PM org and the other from the engineering org (in later rounds) and usually senior folks. What type of questions can be asked to both types of panels?

Now it's becoming a rare opportunity in comparison to the developer's starting salary. Developer getting 2x amount and sometimes 3x the amount what designers are getting. So people who are coming to design industry from developer side of things, think again

So I have been doing freelancing from quite some time and have worked on web apps and mobile applications which were completely under me, client just brought the rough ideas of the product they were looking for and so I worked from scratch on those, although I was on learning stage still managed to deliver big projects alone. So I wanted to know does this count as product designer? Or still it will be just UI/UX designer? Also I am planing to join a company as full time how much salary can I ask them? Like I have around 2 years of experience although all were freelance projects. I have experience in designing modern UI websites to multi featured mobile apps, web apps and logos. If I go for interview how much can I ask in salary?
