What's the most bureaucratic thing at your organization?

For me it’s always around stakeholder management. I’m kind of an introvert, and it drains down all my energy to talk to different sort of people throughout the day. Post meetings, I barely have any energy left to actually work on stuff that is important. I kind of have sleepless nights, especially when I have to present something to senior leadership, I know they will have questions, or will slice/dice data in a way that will require me 2/3 days of work to get back to them. Luckily, I’ve got an EM who kind of handles the engineering part really well. So I’m not bogged down by the meetings on engineering front. What do hacks do you use to really align well with stakeholders? ps: my manager is kind of supportive, but they will throw me under the bus, if tough questions are asked in any of the high level meetings.

AMA about what actually goes behind those rangolis in the HR dept and work that better compensated people in HR do.

I’m curious about the working style of difterent companies operating at different levels. Do engineers ever directly talk to business or just product? Does the product give a detailed PRD covering all possible scenarios or a one pager? Are PRDs still a thing ? How long does the review cycle last? How strictly are estimates adhered to? How frequently do the requirements change during the dev cycle? Who owns the quality of outcome ?

What are the biggest disadvantages of working in FAANG acc to you? According to me: 1. Company leadership says A (which is something I most of the time agreed with), but I kept seeing middle management do B. 2. More and more processes and red tape. I did not like the direction the company was developing (I was in a sensitive org, so we had a lot of lawyers etc to begin with, but it got overbearing) 3. Promotions are extremely formulaic and at times I felt like an ape trying to tick 10 check boxes in a half.

How to deal with a manager who instructs every bit of your work, takes technical decisions on their own without any consultation with the team, tries to breath down everyone’s necks, follows daily deadlines, work checkins 3 times in a day, irrespective of jira being in place, does not appreciate work, tries to eat credit and cries foul for smallest of issues?

Chief of Staff is like the Badi Bahu (eldest daughter-in-law), expected to fix 3 decades of shit work culture One of my bosses introduced me as "She follows me wherever I go" Am I the Hutch dog?! (If you don't know Hutch dog, you are way too young) It can be a rewarding role only if you know how to set firm boundaries; otherwise, people gonna take advantage of you.
