What’s up with FAANG bhaiyya didi culture?

Had a call with my cousin this weekend. Life has been very hectic lately so, I have been laying low for a while now. Anyway, my cousin reached out and he brought up something very interesting. He mentioned how the quality of new engineering grads at FAANG has been trending downwards over the last three or so years. Technical competency aside, there is a weird behavioural shift wherein freshers have adopted job hopping every 2-3 years. He told me that there are zero engineers who stayed longer than 3 years at his org. I mean optimizing for pay is fine. The thing to really balance for is impact in the long run because at one point you would find it hard to scale beyond a Lead/EM role at an org. But the real thing is that the "FAANG" hype has started to die down amongst the 99th percentile of talent. I wonder how long will it take to have a trickle down effect to 80th percentile and so on. Just to validate, I asked a friend for his opinion and he opined that "Bhai, tum FAANG mei naaukar ho ya kisi startup mei, ho toh naukar hi." Translation: "You can work at FAANG, or at a startup but you are still a servant(employee)" Is the FAANG hype really dead?

Got to know from my skip manager that there will be another round of layoffs starting Monday.

What is the new trend didi-bhaiya from FAANG & even from UBER/MS 😂 posting about DSA & LC but adding a good-looking picture in that LinkedIn post? 🥹😅 Should we improve our LC or work with our hair stylist? Yeah, in the end adding that Topmate link 🫡🤝

Rant. Chappri Interns and mid af SDEs on LinkedIn have destroyed the entire point of the platform. Every Tier 1 graduate working at Microsoft or Walmart posts their own pic in some Manali hillstation and give 400 lines of unsolicited gyaan, which virgin btech 2nd year students cant help but drool at. I get it bro/sis, you mugged up 800 LC mediums and Microsoft came to your BITS campus and picked you up because you solved a system design question in the interview which scales infinitely for infinite users. No, i dont want to enroll is PrepCracker's System Design Cohort for just Rs 69,999 and replace Hotstar's CTO. Folks like Arpit Bhayani and Addy Osmani are the only reason I open linkedin to actually get some ground level reality of how to be a better SWE, but all i see is bhaiyya didi telling me why my resume is not getting selected because i didnt pay Rs. 1,999 for their Topmate Resume Review session. Due to them Twitter is full of 2nd year dimwits who think swe is the only path to liberation and their bhaiyya didi will be their guiding angel. They won't. They'll turn out just like your average 3.5lpa employee at WITCH. The only way to become a good swe is figure shit out yourself and do what you love. Its that simple. Im from a shit tier 3 college. I've cracked FAANG and that too with 42 lc solved. What DSA bro? Thankyou to the Grapevine team for building a good platform where genuine watercooler discussions take place. Deleted LinkedIn for good until i get my sanity back.

Come at me, I'm not scared. There is a reason why FAANG engineers are top-rated VS some random startup engineer. Here are the reasons why I think that Indian Startup culture is pure cringe: 1. The random use of the following emojis- 🚀💰📈📊💡 2. Fake enthusiasm for every little thing - "Wow! 25M people ordered condoms WOWOW!!!🚀" 3. Claim that you are a verb("company name"): "I am a (Zoman, Flipster, Swiggster or whatever)" but no one really knows about it outside of your company. 4. The HR is a proper softie in the name of Employee wellbeing but will end up being a sadist the moment layoffs happen. 5. Think hard if you really want to work in a place that is your LinkedIn feed on Steroids.

I don't know if I'm right or not but I feel that software engineering in India is becoming more of "How to get into FAANG" rather than actually learning skills. Whenever I open LinkedIn all I see is "What I did to get into FAANG" "My life in FAANG" "But this course to get into FAANG" And the most fucked up scene is people are quitting there jobs at FAANG to create content to get into FAANG. I'm so sick of it now. Whom is to blame here?

Came across a twitter post where a user says its impossible for tier 3 college folks to crack FAANG with freshers/low experience. How is the work culture at FAANG ??? Do you all get to work on the world changing products there ? FAANG folks plz answer. Exception is amazon. Would like to know the rest all companies work culture.

I was interning at Microsoft and got the PPO as well. But I chose to join a remote startup and resigned from Microsoft, for various reasons including Pay, Learning, Product, Tech stack, etc. And everyone I talked with since then has asked the same thing, "bro why did you leave Microsoft?", "bro Microsoft is such a big brand", blah blah. When are we going to realize that working for a FAANG /MAANG /FAANGMULA /LODALASAN company is not the ultimate goal of everyone's life ?

Bhaiya/ Didi, please stfu. Keep your courses to you. If you really care about bringing revolution to edtech, then sell your courses for free. What you are doing is fooling the dumb gullible indian college kids. I don't want to see your randomass selfie explaining why your course is 10xbetter than the same other thousand courses. This breed is successfully ruining lakhs of students with the clickbaity crore rupee salary.
