Dual Income and No Kids sounds very attractive but advice from people in their late 20s and 30s is probably too biased to be considered sound advice.

Wanted to understand how couples who took that decision in their 30s feel today.

Do you regret it?

I am a 37 year old female and my husband is 40. We were unable to have kids through normal ways and chose to not go for continued IVf after the first one didn’t work. We found IVF to be too draining emotionally, physically and also financially to a certain extent (although that was not a major extent) . We were also ready to take that decision to be a DINK because we felt that we loved each other and found our life fulfilling with each other, family and work. Having a child would have been great but I personally agonised over this decision for many years in my early 30s because we have been told that if you don’t have kids ‘you will regret it later when it’s too late 😅😅’ happy to report years later that we don’t regret not having kids at all - and we don’t think we will feel differently many years later too.

I'm seeking advice on how to handle a sensitive situation that's been affecting my well-being. As a young woman in my 30s, I'm still unmarried and  my younger cousins or relatives have all gotten married. While I'm genuinely happy for them, I sometimes feel pressure and low self-esteem when people ask me when I'll be getting married or imply that something is wrong with me for not being married yet. It's not like i don't want to however in a vunurable situation when it comes to emotional connection stuff.I am a bigtime dog lover and I am happy being with my dog and parents too.

As someone who values my family's opinions and approval, it's hard for me to ignore these comments and not take them personally. How can I deal with these kinds of situations in a healthy way and maintain my self-confidence despite societal expectations?"

Since single folks have no added burden to maintain timings due to family and can work longer hours, can it be the case that married guys lose edge in the job market?

If you wanna go for arrange marriage, get married now, or atleast start looking. It's disgusting but the arranged marriage scene works like a market, and the value tends to drop the closer you're to 30. Options decrease as age goes up. 
  
 If you wanna go for love marriage, find someone you love and chill.

33M here and these points sounded fascinating when I was 25-26, but not anymore. Except for the EMI part everything else looks like a blessing instead of being in a bad marriage. If you're in your late 30s and unmarried, how has it been for you?

What does future and "purpose" mean to you at this point of life?

Dating has become the norm for relationships today, but many don't realize that it's a relatively recent development, prevalent in Western society for only about a century, and it's already causing societal issues.

Previously, Indian arranged marriages were standard (different from forced marriages). Families would arrange meetings between their daughters and another family's sons. If they liked each other, they would soon plan the wedding, marry, have sex, and start families.

Today, individuals are left to find their own partners. If you don't find someone in high school, university, or work, your chances of finding a partner diminish. There's also less incentive for marriage, as sex no longer requires marriage or even dating, leading to more people pursuing sex directly. This has created a skewed dynamic where fewer men pursue women due to competition, turning to porn instead, while women face exploitation by men who have abundant choices.

Ultimately, near 28-30 both genders rush to the arranged marriage system to get them a partner while having their feet dipped on dating apps.

In the US,
This has lead to decreased marriage rates and, consequently, lower birth rates since most births occur within marriages. A decline in families results in a decreased population, putting more pressure on younger generations to support an aging population. Western nations, therefore, rely heavily on immigration, causing additional challenges. Increased single motherhood also correlates with higher crime rates, drug use, loneliness, mental health issues, and suicides

P.S. I'm young and dating too. Just thoughts for a conversation on what the implications of dating for us as a society could be.

Dating has failed Americans, now it will fail Indians too

Your description of arranged marriages is incorrect. You are given the option that if they liked each other get got married - which was not the case in the last generation. Often times the meetings was just formality, and my own mother met father on the day of their engagement. So nope, they didn’t have the choice to see if they liked each other, their parents made that decision for them. 
  
 Now take that into today’s scenario, how many people in this generation will willingly marry someone their parents has chosen, without any say in it? None. Doesn’t matter what their income is. You yourself are dating.. why? You can ask your parents to find someone for you, if you believe their judgment. The issue is that we don’t, and people avoid admitting that cos they don’t wanna be seen as someone who disagrees with their parents. 
  
 People are free to do what they like, arrange, love, dating, single, unmarried, adoption with marriage. Literally their choice. Nothing is ruining anything, in fact the recent situation in our country, where there are no laws upheld for rich, unemployed where 40% IITians aren’t placed, religious division - are more of a concern than a person’s personal choice. My 2 cents 🙌🏻

When I go to the office, all of my colleagues talk to me very kindly. It's as if they're reassuring me that if anything were to happen, I have nothing to worry about because these guys will manage everything, including my family. However, when there's a need for teamwork, these guys behave as if they belong to different departments and do back bitching all day.

Outside of work, clients try to get close, almost like cousins (I know they want referrals), but during review meetings in front of their bosses, these guys act like FBI agents or like they are doing some type of favor on us.

In college, when our group of friends used to go on trips, we would enjoy every time like kids. But now, everyone is more interested in knowing how much we earn and Judging based on the brands of our clothes and watches.

People often ask me why I don't go home on long weekends. Well, I live in a joint family, and when I go there, everyone bombards me with questions about when I'm going to get married. Man what the hell, I don't want to get married, plain and simple. My uncle, every time he sees me, asks about my annual salary increment. What's the deal? Didn't we have this conversation just three months ago? Who gets a raise every quarter?

Finally, I decided that I'll take some time for my personal life, and if I find a soulmate, I'll consider marriage. But here's the thing (sorry if it's not appropriate): it seems like everyone these days is only interested in one thing, yes Se*. What's wrong with our generation? Doesn't anyone want emotional support anymore? Isn't anyone interested in enjoying the sunset with someone they love or gazing at the sky while lying on the grass?

People often ask me why I don't go outside or try to be more social. Well, I've tried everything, and I'm really happy at my home in my favorite pajamas.

This is a very interesting topic. I wonder what the impact will be on so many things. 
- People get married later, have kids much much later 
- Effectively you're getting fewer of your "fitter" years with your kid (although lifetime is elongated too) 
- We've added at least 5 years of working as a single guy/gal to our lifetimes. 

Question to the broader community: I don't see most people between 25 to 30 being super happy. Most people actually seem misguided (me/my friends - in some ways). Is this pattern actually harmful for us?

I have a startup idea to start a community service. The idea is to help people who don't want to marry under their parents or societal pressure. The service will provide counseling to parents, normalize singlehood, mediator between the customer and everyone involved. The service can be extended to almost anything aligning with this. 
The idea is that not many people can provide good arguments in their favour or just don't want to put their views. We will have the best and brightest people to provide support with expertise on psychology, societal behavior, debate etc. The idea could be totally ridiculous but I want to know the community's thoughts on this. I want to know from the members of gravevine, what are their views on being a DINK couple or a DINKWAD( double income no kids with a dog). From financial prospects like having a huge disposable income to emotional aspects like not having a legacy or going against custom Indian tradition. Do share your thoughts 🤔💭

What are your thoughts about being DINKS?

We are a DINK couple (live-in, will get married soon) and absolutely no plans to have kids. Maybe be a DINKWAD someday by adopting an indie. Also no plans to buy a home or spend on our marriage. This is not a financial decision (both of us are doing decently well in our careers) but we don't want to have a child knowing how nothing around is improving and we don't want to sacrifice the best years of our lives by doing this. We are building a large corpus to be financially independent and travel without any financial restrictions.
