Why do people take advantage of you in Bangalore?

I was at a friends place and it suddenly started raining heavily. I had to reach my girlfriends place ASAP. She was already very angry that I was not spending enough time with her. The problem was that I was not getting any auto on Uber or Rapido.

I stopped an auto and asked it for a ride. He quoted Rs 800 for a 4km ride. I was like, "Are you crazy?" I somehow negotiated it down to Rs. 500. But it made me wonder why is this city like this.

Like everyone is trying to scam you. Every one is a grifter, from your landlord to auto wallahs to the cops.

Have you faced such things in this city?

You shouldn't have taken the ride, now you encouraged him even more, that people are okay to pay 500 for even smaller distances if it's raining.

I had to reach anyways bro. What do I do?

I appreciate your loyalty to Uber but try on other apps too especially during monsoon times, I am sure you would have gotten a cab in less than what it cost you.

I always take 15 mins in my bucket before leaving for anyplace, getting a ride in banglore during peak office hours and monsoon is hectic but wayyyy better then convincing an Anna that you are looting us, they genuinely don't give a shit.

Auto drivers are very rude charge unnecessarily extra and later complain Ola and Uber is taking their market.

In mumbai you go by meter in Auto. So for 2KM we have to hardly pay 50 Rupees. But here in Bangalore I had to pay 160 rupees once for 2 km.

@GreenMink4 Exactly. I had to pay 150 for 2kms too. It is really crazy

In Mumbai the meter starts as soon as you get inside an auto. It's sorted. No need to bargain. You can rest assured that the fare is fair.

@Sleepybudhha Yeah unless the meter is rigged which is unlikely

If the auto guy is willing to come. Getting an auto is difficult in areas like Seepz or Andheri

This is true for any city. I've faced a similar situation in Pune as well. It's not the city, it's SOME people that's the problem.

PerkyPotato

Didn't face this in Delhi ever

DerpyMarshmallow

Like I said, there's always some people who do that. I face similar situations with auto rickshaws at times. There are good ones too. But unfortunately, the bad ones outnumber the good ones.

SleepyTaco
SleepyTaco

Supply demand at play here in this situation. When it rains no cabs or auto like to accept rides so supply is skewed and demand increases.

@dev_lazy92 Exactly. I dont know why tho

Because it's the benglore # silicon valley of India ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ The situation of drainage is very bad here ! No one wants to go with public transport as jams are there ! But still it's Bengaluru!

It is a joke. When will people start leaving this city

ZoomyPanda

Because of the local culture. Local people boost about their right to get priority in Bengaluru and as a matter of fact they will exploit non Bengaluru people since you are not a not local not realising that a non Bengaluru had to come to Bangalore since local were not as good enough to get hired. And why not ? Local people are concentrate more on exploiting nonlocals where as nonlocals concentrate on making a living and go away with making money from Bengaluru. ๐Ÿ˜‚. Infact locals are so ignorant that they talk about how non Bengaluru people ruined Bengaluru they think non Bengaluru people should go back without realising that what Bengaluru make Bengaluru is the non Bengaluru and who were ever able to cater the requirement of IT companies who setup their office. How else would a 5square km city spread into a 30km spread density city in just 15 years?
