About to reach 1cr NW but it don't feel enough

First things first - It’s all liquid money, no ESOPs. Don’t get me wrong, I’m very, very grateful for it. I never imagined, growing up, that I’d reach it. I have memories from my teenage years watching KBC and thinking 1 crore is a life-changing amount. But living in Gurgaon, it just doesn’t feel enough or life-changing. I don’t feel rich, but merely middle class, given I can’t buy a house or anything big with it, and given that all my friends in Gurgaon started with a minimum of 3-4 crore+ (inherited house).

Heyy bro. Congratulations . It's a huge money. My perspective towards money is different. For me Money is always relative . What 1000 rupee is to you is different for me or some rich and poor person . You should feel happy about making it this big. And guide us what you did. In terms of your total exp , number of switches you took , your starting salary and all that stuff

i agree. it's hard for me personally to think relatively.

tbh, i don't have much to share or guide you. i feel i got lucky with few things. total yoe - 5-6 years including some freelancing starting salary - 5lpa

the thing that worked for me was i was truly interested in the field even before i knew i could make money from it. this put me ahead and helped me grow.

Congratulations on your achievement. However, do consider inflation of 6% approx. Means your 1 crore worth would be 94 lacs by next year. So please dont go with the figures as they are deceptive. Please ensure you have investment done in shares, mutual fund, gold, liquid, etc. So your money earns money for you and it could be secondary income. Hope I could explain things, however if you need any assistance, feel free to connect. PS : I am not any financial advisor, just a corporate employee.

Celebrate it. As a milestone achieved!

Budget it, might be 50K, 1L, 2L whatever. And aim to spend that on whatever maximises your happiness over next 45days! Have a hard deadline.

Do something that maximises your happiness. You can spend it all on an iPhone or get 5-10 complimentary gadgets. You can do 1 international trip or 2-3 local trips or just a week in 5 star hotel in your city. The aim is to know how money can make YOU happy. It's a learning process. Spending money is an art, practice it

Better advice than most. People already know they need to save. No need to tell twice. But nobody teaches how to spend.

FluffyPenguin

Spending is not happiness. Happiness should be within. If you dream for a car and you get a car you will be happy temporarily. But what next again sad huh.. so spending is not happiness. Be satisfied with what you have

You're in a good situation.

  1. This networth can only give you security and safety which most Indians don't have. You should feel more secure than others.
  2. Let this 1 Cr compound over the years while you also add more to your savings.
  3. For happiness, you need to find other ways which most Indians know, especially the poor people and the middle class.

I agree with 1. for 3. what do you suggest that is? i'm very pessimistic - i mostly see them unhappy and in despair

It’s no money, it’s jealousy. Solution is different.

what you reckon that solution be?

Was in similar state some time back. Lifestyle inflation and general inflation is what cause this lack of dopamine.
If i talk in network terms. Going from 1L to 2L felt huge but after that all stale. Next big was 10L. Next 50L. Then 1cr.
This fades away. Beauty of dopamine. It wears off.

The thing is we unconsciously don’t realise. That with growing networth, our goal changes. I used to be excited in smaller things which have become boring over the time. Our goal changes.

If you dont embrace this feeling, your mind now needs to feel this achievement again. Which might come at 5cr. But then it will again wear off.

To me what has helped is defining goal. Realistically planned goals. And not limiting it a age. Because its adding to pressure. For example. I am buying a home when i am in 33-35 age. This gives me goals in mind and way to achieve.

Agree. This might feel small. But because your mental goal has shifted. Whereas it might seems a victory to some. Too low for others. Etc.

Enjoy the landmark. Most importantly. Celebrate wins. Go out on a fancy dinner. Buy something useless. Plan a vacation. After all. You have earned it.

Very true. When domino's had launched in India.. 3 friends pooling in to buy a regular pizza felt like a luxury. Now we have to catch international flights just to meet up with those same friends! I think we all need to work very hard to retain the childlike zeal. The Dopamine desensitization is real and we need to have find our own methods to stay pumped about life.

Ah, well to be fair from our teenage days, the value of 1Cr has significantly depreciated.

Congratulations. If your total YoE is 6 years, this is a significant achievement. Don't get bogged down by what others are earning/owning. Chart your own growth path. Save what you can, enjoy when you can, work while you can. Remember, there's always someone earning less than you. Be grateful for what you have. This 1 Cr will turn into many more soon. Best wishes.

How much is enough?

When I was younger, 1cr felt like a dream. When I got there, the goalpost moved to 3cr. Those I know who are already at 3cr net worth, are now chasing 5cr. And those at 5cr, claim 10cr is the target...

Is there a cliff at which more pe...
