Appartment or Plot

Is it a good thing to buy an apartment (or) stay in a rented house and invest in Equity and Real Estate?

As I heard there are a lot of illegal properties in Bengaluru which don't have any approvals. So Is it a good thing to buy a plot (or) stay invested in Equity?

Plot is better if bought from a credible seller. You can also finance with a loan getting you upto 80% of the money needed. North bangalore is a good area to look at. Preferably 2-3km proximity to an upcoming metro line and with good road access. Tier 1 & 2 builders also sell plots inside their communities which sell well.
