Every large startup has to go through this phase. The only way they attract the best talent is by offering "astro"nomical salaries. When they need to do margin expansion before IPO they will lay off. If you're offered this salary, you need to be prepared to jump soon.

The company did around 10-15% silent layoffs in the last cycle by putting people in PIP. My Manager told me that he has pressure on him to put at least 1 or 2 people in PIP, make them leave the company and reduce costs.
