My senior is saying me think whether you are made for development or not?
It's been around 8 months as a Frontend developer working at a Startup. My senior is very fast at coding so he is saying that you should think about that you are made for development or not. I am feeling very demotivated. What should I do now?
Give yourself time. Don't get demotivated instead learn things and increase your speed. As a senior myself I also gets frustrated with any junior slowing my time and progress of project. But I know I started from scratch only in my career and it took me time to code in speed and think faster.
You will reach there but you have to make efforts.
As a frontend dev who also started from scratch at a startup, I can confidently say 8 months is barely anything. It took me about a year to not be a floundering noob, and a few more months to become largely self-sufficient. Keep working on the foundations, you *will* get up to speed eventually — it's almost like a law of nature. Focus on the basics first (HTML/CSS/JS), and move on to your framework only after the foundations are in place. Write some code every day, build some stuff on the side (nothing fancy required, mini projects are fine), and quite importantly, spend time debugging and understanding the flows in their codebase (I'm assuming you must've received KTs for explaining what the application is and how it works, which will help you in this part).
For learning the foundations, pick ideally one, or not more than two resources to complement each other (I'd suggest any good book for JS — you're free to research and choose whichever you like), and follow that. Don't get into the rabbit hole of finding better resources, it only ends up wasting time in the long run.
Side note, fuck that senior. I too had a senior like that who grossly underestimated my ability and sowed some self doubt into me. But on the positive side it gave me the motivation to prove him wrong :P Thankfully, after a lot of effort, I'm in a much better place now. You'll get there too, don't worry :)

Hang on there buddy. Your senior didn't reach there in a day - give yourself time and keep on learning
Insufficient context to comment. Someone just being faster than you doesn't mean they can give that feedback/suggestion. There has to be more.
Else, it's a case of unrealistic expectations leading to the thought

I have a decade plus experience in front end.
Came from non tech background and learnt everything on job.
The learning curve in the first few years would be steep. Don’t give up. There would be times you might question your ability and skill.
And once you cross that most people plateau and won’t learn much. Most people including your senior might be in this phase.
I am pretty sure your senior feels superior because of all his effort and knowledge. But don’t worry, soon you will humble him. Just make sure you don’t make someone else feel like this.
